FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (10/20)
Jamie Benn

Jamie Benn and the Stars have a very favorable matchup Thursday

We are now over a full week into the ’16/’17 NHL season and already we are seeing new faces make their way into our FanDuel lineups on a daily basis. Rookies like Auston Matthews and Patrick Laine appear to be early DFS superstars while more experienced young players such as Chris Kreider and Mika Zibanejad appear to be breaking out and worthy of roster spots on a nightly basis. That being said, there are plenty of options this evening on busy NHL slate that contains 11 games. Let’s see who can carry us to some profits in what should be another entertaining night of NHL action.

Center

Tyler Seguin (DAL): $8,000 vs. LAK
Seguin and Jamie Benn entered this season as one of, if not the best 1-2 punch in the NHL. While Benn finished second in league scoring last season, Seguin held his own with a 33-goal, 73-point campaign a year ago. The Brampton, Ontario native has already recorded three points in as many games this season and draws a favorable matchup tonight at home against the Kings. Los Angeles lost starting goaltender Jonathan Quick less than two periods into their season and things have gone straight downhill from there. Backup Jeff Zatkoff has been shelled for nine goals against over the last two games and the usually air-tight Kings defense is now showing some holes. Look for Seguin to have every opportunity to get on the scoresheet tonight while firing plenty of pucks on net.

Alex Galchenyuk (MTL): $5,900 vs. ARI
Coming off his first 30-goal season in the NHL, Galchenyuk is a budding superstar for the Montreal Canadiens. Not only did he have the best season of his young career a year ago, his point totals have steadily increased each year while tallying 56 points while playing in all 82 games in ’15/’16. Galchenyuk is now unquestionably Montreal’s number one pivot and seems to have plenty of chemistry with linemates Max Pacioretty and Brendan Gallagher. Like Seguin, Galchenyuk draws a nice matchup tonight at home against a young Coyotes team who also recently lost their number one goaltender to injury. The Coyotes were pummeled by the Senators on Tuesday night to the tune of seven goals against, which tells me Galchenyuk has an excellent shot at recording his first goal of the season to go along with the three assists he has tallied through three games.

Wing

Jamie Benn (DAL): $8,200 vs. LAK
As mentioned above, Benn is coming off of an excellent campaign in which he was able to finish second in league scoring, a year after finishing first. Benn reached the 40-goal plateau for the first time in his career a year ago while also firing a whopping 247 shots on goal. Through the first three games of the season, Benn has three points, eight shots, and a power play goal. The Dallas Stars offense starts and finishes with the Seguin-Benn duo and both have a favorable matchup tonight at home against the struggling Kings.

Max Pacioretty (MTL): $7,300 vs. ARI
The Canadiens’ best forward entered this season coming off of his third straight 30-goal campaign and he appears to have started right where he left off. Pacioretty dominated the Penguins on Tuesday night as the American recorded an early goal just 23 seconds into the game while also adding an assist and six shots on goal in the Montreal victory. He and Alex Galchenyuk will be relied upon to do the heavy lifting for a Montreal team looking to get back to the postseason. After breaking out on Tuesday night against Pittsburgh the possibilities for Pacioretty and Galchenyuk to do more damage tonight against the Coyotes are plentiful.

Jonathan Drouin (TB): $5,500 vs. COL
Drouin will become one of the pricier wingers in FanDuel sooner than later. The 21-year-old has begun the season by tallying a goal and three assists on 11 shots through three games and has a comfy spot on the Lightning’s top line next to superstar Steven Stamkos. It was only a year ago that Drouin and the Lightning appeared to be on the outs, however, a reconciliation followed by an impressive postseason very much has Drouin back in the good graces of both GM Steve Yzerman and head coach Jon Cooper. Drouin sees plenty of ice time and also has a spot on the team’s first power play unit which bodes very well for the youngster. Drouin and the Lightning are set to host an Avalanche team that has surrendered 11 goals in only three games this season and could be in for more trouble against a high-octane Lightning offense at home.

Nick Ritchie (ANA): $3,400 vs. PHI
Welcome to tonight’s value play. Ritchie has looked impressive in what he hopes will be his first full season as an NHL player, thanks in large part to his spot on the Ducks’ top line next to Ryan Getzlaf. While he has just a single assist through four games, he has recorded seven shots and that spot on the top line has him skating an average of 17 minutes per night. Ritchie also appears to have a spot on the Ducks second power play unit which could bode well for him tonight against a Flyers team that has killed just 72.7% of their penalties so far this season.

Defense

John Klingberg (DAL): $5,100 vs. LAK
Klingberg enters his third season in the NHL with one of the highest ceilings among defenseman in the entire league. After an impressive 40-point rookie campaign, the Swede posted 58 points last season, 22 of which came with the man advantage. The fact that he shares the ice with Seguin and Benn on a lethal Stars power play ensures the talented rear guard will post well-above-average point totals again this time around. Besides, a Stars stack certainly requires a Klingberg inclusion.

Kris Russell (EDM): $3,500 vs. STL
After signing a one-year deal with the Oilers right before the regular season began, Russel has looked good in his new colors. The veteran has chipped in three assists for an Oilers team that has scored 17 goals through four games, but his real value comes in the shot-blocking category. Russell has already blocked 14 shots which leads all NHL players so far this season. His shot-blocking ways have helped him rack up at least 14.4 fantasy points in three of Edmonton’s first four games of the year.

Goalie

Jacob Markstrom (VAN): $8,100 vs. BUF
It looks like Markstrom will start once again for the Canucks tonight with Ryan Miller returning but in a backup capacity. Markstrom has rattled off back-to-back wins in Miller’s absence with an especially impressive victory over the Blues on Tuesday night as he surrendered just one goal on 24 shots to earn the win. Tonight Markstrom takes on a Sabres team that has scored 10 goals in three games this season, but considering six of them came in a drubbing of the Oilers this has been an anemic offense for the most part. Vancouver has surrendered just five goals in three games with a nice opportunity to stymie another offense this evening.
