Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 6

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 6
marcus_mariota_818x288

Mariota should continue his hot streak this weekend

With more and more fantasy owners opting to wait on the quarterback and tight end positions in drafts, streaming each position has become a viable option. This is made easier by the fact that there are usually solid options on the waiver wire. Each week this column will scour the waiver wire and look for quarterbacks and tight ends who are owned in fewer than 50% of leagues and could be worth starting for your fantasy team.

All ownership percentages come from Yahoo fantasy leagues and all references to fantasy points allowed per game come from our fantasy points allowed (PA) reports here on Fantasy Pros. All references to DVOA (Defense-Adjusted Value Over Average) come from rankings on www.footballoutsiders.com. A detailed explanation of DVOA can be found here.

Quarterback

Brian Hoyer (CHI): 18% owned vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
Hoyer may not give the starting quarterback job back to Jay Cutler, even when the latter returns from a thumb injury. Hoyer has been excellent over his three starts, posting 300-yard games in all three while throwing for six touchdowns. A matchup against a disappointing Jacksonville defense that is allowing the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks makes Hoyer a top-level streamer yet again in Week 6.

Marcus Mariota (TEN): 47% owned vs. Cleveland Browns
Mariota had a huge game in Week 5 against the Dolphins, throwing for three touchdowns and adding 60 yards and a rushing score on the ground for good measure. He has a good shot at building on that strong outing when he gets set to take on a Browns defense that has been one of the worst in the league this season. Cleveland is allowing the 12th-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks and has a pass defense ranked 21st in the league in DVOA. That ranking came before Week 5, which saw the Browns get diced up by Tom Brady. Mariota’s rushing yardage always gives him a high floor and you saw his considerable ceiling last week.

Tight End

Jesse James (PIT): 24% owned @ Miami Dolphins
James has been pretty touchdown dependent, but he has scored three times in five games. He shapes up as a strong streaming option this weekend as he has a great matchup against a Dolphins defense that is allowing the 10th-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. The Pittsburgh offense has been rolling since getting Le’Veon Bell back and they should be in the red zone all afternoon against Miami, giving James several chances to score yet again.

Charles Clay (BUF): 12% owned vs. San Francisco 49ers
Clay, as expected, was a big part of the Bills’ passing game in Week 5, leading the team in receiving against the Rams. Expect the veteran tight end to remain a big part of Buffalo’s game plan again this week as they welcome the 49ers to town. San Francisco has struggled to defend enemy tight ends this season, allowing the seventh-most fantasy points per game.
