D’ANGELO RUSSELL (PG – LAL), JULIUS RANDLE (PF – LAL)
The Los Angeles Lakers have been without two of their starters this week, as point guard D’Angelo Russell and power forward Julius Randle both missed time this week. Russell’s injured left knee received a platelet-rich plasma injection on Wednesday and is expected to require about two weeks total, but he also told the Los Angeles Times “I feel like I gotta be 100 percent perfect before I step back on the court.” The Lakers had become a fun, early-season team to watch and have become significantly less fun with Jose Calderon (PG – LAL) starting in Russell’s spot. Veteran sixth man Louis Williams (SG – LAL), however, becomes a possible pickup. He started last week hitting five three-pointers against the Bulls and only has two games this season without connecting from downtown.
Randle, who missed three games due to a hip pointer, remains day-to-day after completing a pre-game workout on Sunday, per the Orange County Register. Thomas Robinson (PF – LAL) started in Randle’s place on Sunday, but the Lakers went small earlier in the week, starting Luol Deng (SF – LAL) and Brandon Ingram (SF – LAL) together at the forward positions. All three have struggled so far this season, so the best option remains Randle – a dominant rebounder who has somewhat confounded expectations by adding 3.9 assists per game. If someone dropped him in your league because of this injury, snap him up immediately.
Green had a rough set of games against the Lakers this week, leaving their match on Wednesday due to a poked eye and then suffering an ankle contusion from a collision with teammate Ian Clark (SG – GSW) against them on Friday. He missed Saturday’s game against the Timberwolves, but, according to ESPN, head coach Steve Kerr believes Green will be available for Monday’s game against the Hawks. Kevin Looney (PF – GSW) started in Green’s absence but holds no significant fantasy value.
An ankle injury will keep George out the Pacers’ lineup only two games this week reports ESPN. Even for just this week, Glenn Robinson III (SG,SF – IND) could be a solid pickup if your team needs a rebounding jolt. He’s averaged 8.2 rebounds per game subbing for George in the starting lineup, also hitting nine threes in five games. Robinson is only 22 years old, but this is his third year as a pro. If the Pacers can keep finding him minutes, even after George’s recovery, he can bring a funky, fun statistical variety to your shooting guard spot.
That’s all for this week’s injury updates, and, as always, don’t forget to stretch.
