FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Friday (1/20)

Jonas has an exciting matchup for Friday night’s game

Friday’s marquee matchup in the NBA pits a pair of heavyweights poised for an epic battle. Kevin Durant leads his league-best Golden State Warriors into Texas to take on James Harden and the Houston Rockets, who boast the third-best record in the NBA. Both stars are commanding steep salaries on FanDuel. Durant is listed at $10,500 and Harden costs a whopping $12,200. If you are thinking of stacking players from this game in your FanDuel lineup, you’re going to need to find value at other positions. Here are some value options you should consider as you fill out your FanDuel lineup for the Friday night slate.

Turn $33 into $50,000 in FanDuel’s NBA Power Slam partner-arrow

Point Guard

Malcolm Brogdon (MIL) $5,400 vs. ORL
Malcolm Brogdon continues to produce solid fantasy numbers and his salary keeps rising as a result. Brogdon posted seven points, eight rebounds, and eight assists against the Rockets on Wednesday, and he had another 25.4 FanDuel points against the Sixers on Monday night. This Friday night matchup against the Magic is a good one. Orlando is surrendering 44.1 FanDuel points per game to opposing point guards, which is among the worst in the NBA. You can take advantage of this matchup by including Brogdon in your lineup Friday night.

Shooting Guard

Garrett Temple (SAC) $4,100 vs. MEM
Losing Rudy Gay to an extended amount of time is an absolute disaster for the Sacramento Kings. Nobody will come close to replacing Gay in the lineup, but that production will likely be spread around Garrett Temple, Matt Barnes, and perhaps even DeMarcus Cousins will see an uptick in his offensive numbers. When Gay missed time in mid-December to early January, it was Temple who stepped up his game by eclipsing 20 FanDuel points in seven of 11 games and averaging 21.0 FanDuel points during that span. It would not be a surprise to see Temple reach five times his value in the Kings’ visit to Memphis.

Small Forward

Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (BKN) $4,600 vs. NOP
The Brooklyn Nets are a mess. They’ve lost 11 straight games dating back to December 26th. The chances of the Nets getting blown out in this game are high, and that’s against a New Orleans Pelicans team that is nine games under .500. Hollis-Jefferson was very productive off the bench in the last two games: 26.4 FanDuel points against the Rockets, and 31.1 against the Raptors. Both of those games were blowouts in which Hollis-Jefferson enjoyed more minutes than he normally would. His salary has increased with this recent success but there is still a chance to exploit the weakness of the Brooklyn Nets by finding a good value on their bench.

Power Forward

Ersan Ilyasova (PHI) $5,800 vs. POR
Joel Embiid is getting all the hype in Philadelphia these days, and deservedly so. He’s playing like a true All-Star. But Ersan Ilyasova is flying under the radar and putting up some good numbers, averaging 14.3 points and 6.1 rebounds a game. He registered 27.0 FanDuel points against the Raptors on Wednesday. In this matchup, he faces a struggling Portland Trailblazers team that is the worst in the NBA at defending the power forward position. They allow 46.4 FanDuel points to opposing Power Forwards. He is not cheap anymore, but there’s a good chance he provides significant value at this price tag.

Center

Jonas Valanciunas (TOR) $5,700 vs. BKN
Valanciunas has been very productive lately. He compiled 30.7 FanDuel points in the Wednesday night contest against the 76ers, and over the last 10 games, he’s averaging 11.7 points and 11.6 rebounds. The Charlotte Hornets come into Friday night’s game allowing 48.8 FanDuel points to opposing centers per game, which is the third-worst in the NBA. It’s not too much of a reach to expect another 30 FanDuel point performance from Valanciunas.
