FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Thursday (1/19)
Mindaugas Kuzminskas

Mindaugas Kuzminskas continues to deliver solid value

Tonight’s five-game FanDuel main slate offers some intriguing matchups with two of them being televised on TNT. Phoenix-Cleveland and Denver-San Antonio both have 219 projected point totals, with the Spurs and the Cavs having the highest implied team totals at 115 and 114, respectively. There should be a lot of fantasy goodness in those games.

If you are going to fit multiple stars (Kawhi Leonard, John Wall, Lebron James, Karl-Anthony Towns, Kyrie Irving), then you’ll need to find some value plays. I have provided 10 value options on FanDuel tonight as you construct your roster. Just like I do with my own lineups, decipher the information available to make the best decisions you can make for the contest(s) you enter. As always, trust the process!

POINT GUARD

Austin Rivers (LAC): $5,600 vs. MIN
Chris Paul will be out for the next 6-to-8 weeks so that should increase Rivers’ usage and opportunities. Rivers has scored 19+ FD points in each of his last six games. So far this month, Rivers is playing well as he is averaging 16.8 PPG,  4.5 APG, and 3.5 RPG. In his last 10 days games, he is averaging 34.4 MPG. His price is the highest it has been all year and he probably won’t be a value play much longer, but for tonight he will have a chance to reach value.

Tony Parker (SAS): $4,700 vs. DEN
Though he is not considered an elite fantasy option anymore, Parker has a solid floor and provides consistency. He has averaged 23.5 FD points in his last 10 games. This looks like a solid matchup for Parker as Denver is 26th in DVOA against point guards. The last time he played the Nuggets, he had 21 points and nine assists for 37.1 FD points.

Jameer Nelson (DEN): $3,700 at SAS
Other than the fact that he is playing against the Spurs, this might be a bounce back spot for Nelson if you need a punt play in your lineup. He had a rough game Tuesday against the Lakers, but in the three games prior to that he had returned 5X value with 24.2, 19.5 and 29.8 FD points. In those three games, he averaged 14 PPG and 5.4 APG. With Gary Harris out with an ankle injury again, Nelson might be in line to get some minutes and help you fit some of the stars in your lineup.

SHOOTING GUARD

Will Barton (DEN): $5,700 at SAS
Barton had 26 points and eight assists on Tuesday against the Lakers on the road. His 41 FD points was the third time he has eclipsed the 40 FD point barrier in the last couple of months. He has big-play potential but faces off tonight against the tough Spurs defense in San Antonio. He is a boom-or-bust type of player whose production is tied to minutes. With Gary Harris being out again tonight that will provide Barton with plenty of opportunity. He has delivered all year when he has gotten the minutes.

Seth Curry (DAL): $4,000 vs. MIA
He has been inconsistent but is getting minutes. In the last four games he has played 28.5 MPG. In that same stretch, he has earned 19.75 FD points but has been inconsistent. In Tuesday’s game he played well scoring 18 points with the help of three long-range makes. In the two recent games Curry has struggled, the opponent in both games was the Timberwolves so it might have been more of a matchup issue.

SMALL FORWARD

Mindaugas Kuzminskas (NYK): $3,900 vs. WAS
In the last four games, Kuzminskas has played nearly 30 MPG and scored 14.7 PPG. If Kristaps Porzingas doesn’t play again tonight, then Kuzminskas will be a must-play in my lineups. He has averaged 26.3 FD points in the last four games. I wouldn’t be surprised if he reached 6X or 7X of his salary tonight.

POWER FORWARD

Dirk Nowitzki (DAL): $5,700 at MIA
In the seven games played in January, Nowitzki has averaged 27 FD points. He is playing 28 MPG so he is averaging nearly a fantasy point per minute. Miami is not the easiest matchup tonight, but Dirk has recently had 30+ FD points against Minnesota, who also presents a difficult matchup. Unless the Mavs rest him for some reason tonight, he should be in line for another solid outing.

Marreese Speights (LAC): $4,500 vs. MIN
Speights exploded for 23 points and 10 rebounds in Monday’s game against OKC. He doesn’t play a lot of minutes (one game of 20+ minutes in the last seven games) but is productive in those minutes. When Blake Griffin returns, Speights’ usage may take an even further hit. However, he averaging 21.5 FD points in his last 10 games.

CENTER

Tristan Thompson (CLE): $4,900 vs. PHO
If you want some safety, then Thompson provides a fairly safe floor but not much upside. He is a better play in cash lineups than a GPP. He has averaged 23.8 FD points in his last six games. He is a lock to get 26-to-32 MPG. It is always possible that he explodes in the rebounding area, but he will typically be limited in his scoring.

Willy Hernangomez (NYK): $3,600 vs. WAS
If you need salary relief and want more upside than Thompson then you can gamble tonight with Guillermo “Willy” Hernangomez as your punt play. He has gone for 22.6 and 30.7 FD points in his last two games. However, he had a DNP between those games. If Joakim Noah doesn’t play again tonight, then Hernangomez could be an option at only $3,600 against a mid-level defense in the Wizards. Last night at Boston, he had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. He’s a high-risk, high-reward player, and he plays for the Knicks so buyer beware.
