FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (2/7)

<a href=

We have a rock-solid, 11-game NHL slate on our hands this evening as the push to the playoffs continues. Tuesdays almost always provide plenty of options on the draft board. While the top-tier talent is important, we always need a value play or two to push our lineups over the top. Let’s check out who can provide us with that coveted value for tonight’s slate.

Center

Brayden Point (TB): $3,400 vs. LA
As the Lightning continue to fight the injury bug up front, Point moves into a solid opportunity tonight against the visiting Kings. After missing 14 games of his own this season, Point will slide into the No. 2 center spot in between Jonathan Drouin and Alex Killorn this evening. It’s a solid opportunity for Point who has had a decent rookie season with 17 points on 69 shots in 39 games. He is a former junior standout as he tallied 178 points over his final 132 games in the WHL, so head coach Jon Cooper is attempting to unlock some of that junior success by throwing Point into a top-six role tonight.

Lars Eller (WAS): $3,500 vs. CAR
Eller couldn’t get the offensive juices flowing in the first half of the season, but has picked it up in a big way since the calendar flipped to 2017. He has been a steady source of production in the new year, having recorded points in eight of his last 13 games despite third-line minutes. However, that third line has found some serious chemistry as Brett Connolly and Andre Burakovsky have also hit their stride over the last month. Washington ranks 5th with 3.28 goals per game and score 3.44 per game on home ice.

Wing

Alex Tuch (MIN): $3,000 vs. WPG
Tuch could really be a steal tonight. At the minimum price tag, he certainly has a serious opportunity to provide value tonight against Winnipeg. Tuch skated on the Wild’s top line with Eric Staal and Zach Parise in his NHL debut on Saturday in Vancouver, recording two shots on goal and two blocked shots in 14 minutes. He could have an increased opportunity for offense tonight against a Jets team that ranks 27th with 3.11 goals against per game. Winnipeg has also yielded at least three goals against in an astonishing 12 straight games.

Kenny Agostino (STL): $3,000 vs. OTT
In his first NHL game as a Blue last night, Agostino scored a breakaway goal while recording four shots on goal in 14 minutes of play, including almost two minutes of power play ice time. Agostino is currently leading the AHL in scoring with 60 points in 48 games and has a huge opportunity for NHL success with Robby Fabbri out for the season with an ACL tear. He certainly didn’t look out of place in last night’s game and could carry some of that momentum into tonight’s road matchup with the Senators.

Defense

Brandon Montour (ANH): $3,100 vs. NYR
Another AHL standout, Montour tallied his first NHL goal on Saturday against the Lightning. While that was just his ninth NHL game of the season, Montour has been making the most of his ice time in the big leagues. He has recorded five shots and five blocked shots to go along with that goal over his last two games. He has 30 points in 34 games in the AHL on the season and has shown flashes of that offensive ability so far in his brief NHL career.

Nathan Beaulieu (MTL): $3,700 vs. COL
Beaulieu is a value favorite of mine more often than not as his opportunity on the Canadiens depth chart is intriguing. He mans the blueline next to Shea Weber on the Canadiens’ top power play unit while usually skating upwards of 24 minutes per night. He has tallied 19 points in 48 games and has also fired 77 shots on goal and blocked 78 shots to boot. His fantasy stock is certainly rising and it won’t be long until he is a DFS powerhouse, particularly when Andrei Markov departs and he becomes the official No. 2 defenseman for the Habs.

Goalie

Anders Nilsson (BUF): $7,800 vs. SJ
While facing a first place team doesn’t look appealing on paper, the truth is the Sharks are a middle of the pack offensive team while the Sabres surrender just 2.25 goals per game on home ice. Nilsson has been up and down lately, however his overall numbers on the year are solid. He has a .923 save percentage to go along with a 2.60 goals against average. The best news here is that those numbers become elite on home ice as he boasts a .946 save percentage and a 1.84 goals against average at the KeyBank Center this season. He has allowed three goals combined over his last two home starts, so take a hard look at Nilsson before overspending on goaltending tonight.
