DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (3/4)

Mar 4, 2017

There are no day matinee NHL games today so the main slate tonight will have ten games beginning at 7:00 pm (EST). With a large slate of games, it can be overwhelming selecting what players and teams to target with all the choices. In tournament lineups, you can take more risks, but in cash lineups like this one, I like to keep it simple and target the strong offenses against the weaker teams that struggle defensively and are possibly looking forward to their summer vacations.  Pick from two to four teams that you believe will score some goals tonight, then look for value plays or players that will see plenty of ice times. With goalies, you want to select from those with the highest probability for a win and get those three points that can be the difference in cashing or not.

Here are tonight’s likely goalies with high win probabilities in order of Vegas line favorite

Here are some of the teams that should put up some goals tonight when selecting skaters for your lineups.

  • Washington Capitals
  • Chicago Blackhawks
  • Winnipeg Jets
  • Dallas Stars
  • Florida Panthers
  • Columbus Blue Jackets

My cash game lineup for tonight:

Center

Evgeny Kuznetsov (WAS): $6,300 vs. PHI
With so many Capitals worthy of DFS consideration, Kuznetsov is a nice choice for cash lineups. He has been steady all season and has 51 points in 63 games and has produced 32 of those points in his last 27 games. In his last three games, he has one goal and three assists for a total of 14 fantasy points in that span.

Tanner Kero (CHI): $3,900 @ NSH
Kero will likely be centering the second line for Chicago with one of the hottest players in the league in Patrick Kane. If you can’t fit Kane and his $8,200 price tag in your lineup, Kero gives you exposure to him at a great price.

Wing

Patrik Laine (WPG): $7,100 vs. COL
Looking at the slate of games tonight, getting exposure to Winnipeg playing against Colorado is a must. Laine is the first player that I wanted in my cash lineup tonight. Both teams will be a little tired on the second end of back-to-back games, but Winnipeg is at home and Colorado gives up lots of goals with a minus-83 goal differential this season.  Laine was held off the scoresheet last night against St. Louis but in his three games prior he had three goals and three assists for a total of 19 fantasy points.

Mathieu Perreault (WPG): $4,300 vs. COL
Perreault is my choice to pair with Laine tonight and comes with a good price tag as well. He has a six-game point streak going with three goals and seven assists in that span for a total of 32.5 fantasy points. He has fit in nicely since playing with Patrik Laine and Mark Scheifele on one of the hottest lines in the NHL.

Alexandre Burrows (OTT): $4.000 vs. CLS
Burrows didn’t waste any time getting acclimated to his new team by scoring both goals in Ottawa’s 2-1 win versus Colorado on Thursday. While we can’t really expect him to score two goals a night since he only has 11 on the season, he is skating on the number one line with the Senators and comes at a nice value price.

Defense

John Carlson (WAS): $5,700 vs. PHI
Carlson is also my solution when deciding what Washington Capitals to put in my DFS lineups. With a balanced scoring attack, Carlson has more of an opportunity to be in on the action no matter what line scores by averaging 23.2 minutes of ice time in his last ten games. He hasn’t been shy about shooting the puck either lately with 18 shots on goal in his last three games, producing three assists and  a total of 18 fantasy points in that span.

John Klingberg (DAL): $4,800 @ FLA
Klingberg has had a nice four-game stretch going with two goals and four assists for a total of 22 fantasy points in that span. Much like with John Carlson, Klingberg plays a ton of minutes and gives my lineup exposure to a high-scoring Dallas team against Florida tonight. Just a good thing we don’t need to worry about goals allowed tonight affecting our fantasy points.

Goalie

Braden Holtby (WAS): $8,400 vs. PHI
Playing what appears to be the best goalie choice on a nightly basis hasn’t always worked out this season due to the league’s parity. Tonight I need to forget all that and just put Holtby in my lineup. Washington has a franchise record 14-game home winning streak going and they have outscored their opponents 65-20 in that streak. Holtby is coming off of a 1-0 shutout against the Devils on Thursday and has gone 18-0-1 in his last 21 starts. I really can’t think of a reason to not play him in cash lineups right now. Even if he gives up a goal or two, he is supported by an offense that should score some goals against Philadelphia tonight.

Utility

Jason Spezza (DAL): $5,200 @ FLA
Spezza only has 10 goals this season but two of those have come in the last two games. He has had a disappointing season but is perhaps in the midst of a little scoring streak. Spezza has been skating on the top line with Jamie Benn and Tyler Seguin so putting Spezza in my lineup gives me exposure to the top scorers on a potent Dallas offense.
