Kawhi Leonard’s brilliant performance against the incomparable James Harden and his high-flying Houston Rockets on Monday night was the big story this week. What Leonard did in the final minutes of that game was simply stunning. He upstaged one of the premier talents in the NBA, and he did it on both ends of the court. Leonard can now be considered the frontrunner in the race for MVP ahead of both James Harden and Russell Westbrook.
Friday night’s slate lacks the big names like Leonard and Westbrook, but Harden is there for the taking. His salary of $11,800 is steep, but the matchup against the Bulls is a good one, so he’s worth every penny. At that price, though, you’ll need to find value elsewhere to field a competitive lineup.
Below are some value plays to consider for Friday night’s FanDuel main slate.
Turn $25 into $20,000 in FanDuel’s NBA Epic Slam
Point Guard
Yogi Ferrell (DAL): $5,200 vs. BKN
Nearly 60 days ago, the Mavericks and Nets were two franchises standing on equally shaky ground. But things have changed very quickly for both franchises that are now heading in completely opposite directions. Since joining the Mavericks in mid-January, Ferrell has helped them complete an impressive turnaround that has them on the cusp of playoff contention. He may have slowed down a tad lately, but he’s still averaging 13.3 points and 5.0 assists over his last three games. Meanwhile, the Nets remain among the worst in the NBA at playing defense, allowing 43.69 FanDuel points to opposing PGs per game. It’s always good practice to exploit the Nets defense whenever possible.
Shooting Guard
Avery Bradley (BOS): $5,500 vs. DEN
Friday night’s slate is starved for good matchups at the shooting guard position. For that reason, it makes sense to pay more for a strong presence at the two. Bradley returns to the value plays list following a week in which he has averaged 13.7 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.0 assists over the course of three games. He sat out Sunday’s contest to rest his hamstring, but he’s back to 100 percent and ready to contribute at full bore. The Nuggets notoriously play an up-tempo pace so expect a lot of points in this game.
Small Forward
Bojan Bogdanovic (WAS): $4,300 vs. SAC
Bogdanovic has been on fire since joining the Wizards in a trade deadline deal with the Nets. In his eight games with the Wizards, his per 36 numbers are astounding; 24.0 points, 4.2 three-pointers, and 4.2 rebounds. His game is all about scoring, so he won’t rely on assists, steals or blocks, but his shot is falling right now. You can be confident in employing him because the Kings present a very good matchup. They are surrendering a league-worst 44.52 FanDuel points per game to small forwards over their last seven. Even though he’s not a starter, Bogdanovic deserves to be in your lineup on Friday night.
Power Forward
Trevor Booker (BKN): $5,300 vs. DAL
The Mavericks are one of the best defensive teams in the league and they play at such a slow pace that they rarely present a favorable fantasy matchup for opposing players. However, Friday night is the exception. Dallas is allowing 48.7 FanDuel points to power forwards over the last seven games. Averaging 8.5 points and 8.5 rebounds in 24.2 minutes of play over his last four games, Booker is poised for a big game on Friday night. Compared to other power forwards on this slate, Booker is a bargain.
Center
Robin Lopez (CHI): $4,800 vs. HOU
While Jimmy Butler and James Harden duke it out for supremacy in this one, Robin Lopez could fly under the radar and produce solid fantasy numbers. Lopez is averaging 12.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in 29.6 minutes of play over his last four games. The Rockets are among the worst teams in the NBA at defending centers, allowing 54.17 FanDuel points over their last seven to the position. Insert RoLo in your lineup and then load up on the expensive talent at other positions.
