Tonight’s a cash game roster night. There’s a clear SP1, and I’m a fan of an affordable SP2. I tend to have a very rigid group of selections in cash games, so unlike in the GPP lineup pieces I pen, the honorable mentions will be skimpier and should be considered as alternatives in the event the top pick(s) at a position receive a day off. Even with the priciest SP1 on the roster below, only one hitter projects to hit lower than fifth in his team’s lineup.

Pitcher
Max Scherzer (WAS): $12,800 @ Braves
Yu Darvish is listed below as an honorable mention, but really he’s only an emergency fallback option for Scherzer. Mad Max is the clear top choice. Only three members of the Braves’ active roster have a wRC+ north of 100 (which represents average) since 2014 against right-handed pitchers, per FanGraphs. Only one of them has an ISO above .200. Atlanta’s offense lacks thump and, frankly, above average offensive players throughout most of their lineup. Seriously, check out these numbers. For Max’s part, he’s in great form out of the gate. Among qualified pitchers this year, he ranks second in swinging strike percentage (SwStr%) at 15.4%, and that’s par the course for a guy who’s sported a 15.3% SwStr% each of the last two years. Scherzer is in typical top form, and he should have little trouble mowing down the Braves as a -166 favorite in a game with an over/under total of just 7.5 runs, according to Pinnacle.
