FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (4/10)

Welcome to Monday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. This article will focus on the five-game main slate tonight on FanDuel. This slate does feature a game at Coors, so you will probably want to have some exposure to both sides of that matchup in your cash game lineup tonight. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup, as well as the weather around the country. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for tonight.

Pitcher

Tyler Glasnow (PIT): $4,400 vs. CIN
Wow, FanDuel must really want Coors Field ownership to be through the roof tonight since they priced Tyler Glasnow $2,800 less than the next lowest pitcher. Glasnow did have control issues this spring and in his brief relief stint with the team at the end of 2016. However, he does have elite stuff and is capable of striking out double-digit batters if he can contain himself. The Reds are slightly improved this season on offense, but I do not believe they are a team we should fear. If you are building more than one lineup tonight, Glasgow definitely should be on at least one, and I do not hate the idea of using him in cash games if you feel like going that route.

Catcher

Yadier Molina (STL): $2,600 at WAS
The value options are pretty slim at catcher tonight, so Yadier Molina is my favorite value option at the position. He does not have the splits advantage tonight against Tanner Roark, but Molina was actually slightly better against right-handed pitchers (0.343 wOBA, 0.121 ISO) than he was against left-handed pitchers (0.339 wOBA, 0.116) in 2016.

First Base

Matt Adams (STL): $2,400 at WAS
First base is another position that is currently pretty thin with value options. With that being said, if you want to take a flier on one in GPPs, consider using Matt Adams. For GPP lineups, I only try to target hitters that have power since FanDuel weights the home run so heavily. Adams does have some pop as shown by his 0.222 ISO in 2016.

Second Base

Neil Walker (NYM): $2,600 at PHI
Neil Walker is off to a slow start in 2017, but I believe that he is more than capable of bouncing back and having another solid season. The switch-hitting infielder actually hit better against left-handed pitchers in 2016, but for his career, he has done better against righties. Even though I like Jerad Eickhoff to be a nice under the radar season-long player for 2017, I do think this is a spot that we can attack with left-handed hitters. Eickhoff allowed a 0.347 wOBA and a 1.59 HR/9 against lefties in 2016.

Third Base

David Freese (PIT): $2,500 at CIN
Brandon Finnegan had a really nice outing in his 2017 debut against the Phillies, but I will need to see more against better opponents to buy into that performance. Finnegan really struggled with his control against right-handed hitters in 2016, allowing a 4.33 BB/9. David Freese, on the other hand, has had a pretty nice career against lefties, with a 0.367 wOBA.

Shortstop

Jordy Mercer (PIT): $2,100 vs. CIN
Another Pirates’ right-handed hitter we can use to attack Finnegan is Jordy Mercer. Mercer hit leadoff in the Pirates’ only matchup against a left-handed starting pitcher this season and if that occurs again, it will be incredibly difficult to pass on Mercer at only $2,100. Mercer was solid against righties in 2016 with a 0.357 wOBa. If he can just get on base a couple of times and score a run, he will have gotten enough FanDuel points to pay off his salary.

Outfielders

Curtis Granderson (NYM): $2,600 at PHI
Curtis Granderson is also off to a slow start in 2017, but he did have a pretty good 2016 season against right-handed pitchers with a 0.349 wOBA and a 0.238 ISO. Jose Reyes has struggled quite a bit in the leadoff spot for the Mets, so it is possible that Terry Collins decides to move Granderson back to the leadoff spot, which is where he was for most of the time in 2016.

Stephen Piscotty (STL): $2,900 vs. WAS
If this was a larger slate, I probably would not be targeting Stephen Piscotty since he does not have the splits advantage against Tanner Roark. With that being said, if you want to take a flier on someone in GPPs who is more than capable of hitting a home run, consider using Piscotty. Piscotty had 22 round trippers in 2016 and he does hit in a premium spot of the Cardinals’ order, so you could do a lot worse if you drop below $3,000 tonight.

Albert Almora Jr. (CHC): $2,300 vs. LAD
Albert Almora Jr. is another GPP flier you can consider for tonight. He will probably be less than 2% owned since he typically hits in the nine-hole for the Cubs. However, he has been off to a nice start with four hits and a walk. With him hitting in front of the Cubs’ potent top of the order, he’s going to see a lot of great pitches, and he will be in a great spot to score multiple runs in each game.
