FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (4/17)

Welcome to Monday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. This article will focus on the eight-game main slate tonight on FanDuel. It doesn’t look like you will need a ton of value in your lineup tonight since there aren’t any top dollar pitchers who will require an extremely large percentage of your salary cap.

With that being said, I will still provide at least one option at every position. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup, as well as the weather around the country. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for tonight.

Pitcher

Robbie Ray (ARI): $8,000 at LAD
Robbie Ray came through for us last Tuesday in a decent spot at San Francisco. Tonight he is another solid spot against the Dodgers and away from Chase Field.

The Dodgers have not been great against left-handed pitching so far in 2017, with a below average wRC+ of 82. As long as Ray can keep the walks to a minimum, he should provide the upside needed for GPPs tonight.

Catcher

J.T. Realmuto (MIA): $2,400 at SEA
J.T. Realmuto is much better against right-handed pitchers, but it’s hard to ignore a value catcher who normally bats in the two-hole for his team. Ariel Miranda is not a good pitcher, and he has struggled early on in 2017. In 10 ⅔ innings, Miranda has allowed 12 hits, five walks, three home runs, and six earned runs.

First Base

Chris Carter (NYY): $2,600 vs. CHW
I cannot recommend using Chris Carter for cash games since he does strike out a ton. With that being said, he has the potential to help you out in GPPs since he does have the power to hit multiple home runs.

He has a solid matchup tonight against Derek Holland, who struggled against right-handed hitters in 2016. In 2016, Holland allowed a 0.346 wOBA and a 1.44 HR/9 to righties.

Second Base

Starlin Castro (NYY): $2,600 vs. CHW
Starlin Castro is off to a decent start to the 2017 season, with a 0.365 wOBA in his first 50 plate appearances. I already mentioned how we could attack Holland with right-handed hitters and Castro has been decent against lefties over the course of his career, with a 103 wRC+.

Third Base

Yangervis Solarte (SD): $2,900 at ATL
There is not a ton of value to love at second base tonight, but I don’t mind using Yangervis Solarte if you need to save at this position. Solarte was solid against left-handed pitchers in 2016, with a 0.330 wOBA and a 0.177 ISO. On the contrary, Jaime Garcia struggled against right-handed hitters in 2016, allowing a 0.342 wOBA and a 1.45 HR/9.

Shortstop

Adam Frazier (PIT): $2,100 at STL
Adam Frazier continues to hit leadoff against right-handed pitchers for the Pirates, and FanDuel refuses to bump his salary up. Frazier had a nice series against the Cubs over the weekend with six hits, including a home run, a triple, and double. I think he is a lock in cash games tonight at this salary since Lance Lynn has not been great against left-handed hitters over his career. Lynn missed all of 2016 with an injury, but in 2015 he allowed a 0.350 wOBA and a 4.83 BB/9 to left-handed hitters.

Outfielders

Matt Joyce (OAK): $2,200 vs. TEX
Matt Joyce has been hitting near the top of the order for the A’s this season against right-handed pitchers. Joyce has been solid against righties over the course of his career with a 0.347 wOBA and a 0.196 ISO. A.J. Griffin, on the other hand, has struggled in his first two starts of 2017, allowing seven earned runs and three home runs in only nine innings of work.

Mitch Haniger (SEA): $2,700 vs. MIA
Mitch Haniger has been red hot for the Mariners, with a 0.426 wOBA and four home runs in his first 13 games of 2017. On top of that, Haniger typically hits in a premium spot of the order for the Mariners, usually in the two-hole. Tom Koehler is not a horrible pitcher by any means, but it’s hard to ignore how locked in Haniger is right now.

Aaron Judge (NYY): $2,700 vs. CHW
Another value Yankees’ bat we can use tonight against Holland is Aaron Judge. Similar to Carter, I don’t think it’s wise to use him in cash games since he does whiff quite a bit, but he has tremendous power upside for GPPs, which what is needed to shoot up the leaderboards.
