FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (4/24)

Welcome to Monday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. It should be a hitter’s night on this nine-game slate since there are not a lot of attractive pitching options. Be sure to check the team lineups as they are released to make sure these players are in fact in the lineup, as well as the weather around the country. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for tonight.

Pitcher

Amir Garrett (CIN): $7,700 at MIL
Amir Garrett is off to a really great start in 2017 allowing only four runs in 19.2 innings, while striking out 21. He does have a difficult matchup against the Brewers tonight in a hitters’ ballpark. However, the Brewers do own the highest K% against left-handed pitchers so far this season and Garrett is a ground ball pitcher.

Catcher

Yasmani Grandal (LAD): $2,800 at SF
Since there really is not a top dollar pitcher that we have to spend up for tonight, we really do not have to go too cheap at catcher tonight. Yasmani Grandal has been better from the left side of the plate over his career, with a 0.346 wOBA and a 0.205 ISO. Tonight he has an excellent matchup against Matt Cain, who has really been awful against left-handed hitters over the past few seasons.

First Base

Adrian Gonzalez (LAD): $2,700 at SF
Another cheap Dodgers’ left-handed hitter who we can use tonight against Cain is Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez is kind of off to a slow with a 0.312 wOBA. However, he does have a decent hard contact percentage of 32.3% against right-handed pitchers this season.

Second Base

Brandon Drury (ARI): $2,600 vs. ARI
Stacking the Diamondbacks in GPPs will likely be a pretty popular strategy tonight since Vegas currently projects them to score the second-most runs tonight. Therefore, if you stack Diamondbacks you should probably use someone outside of their 1-4 hitters or their 2-5 hitters. One pivot could be to use Brandon Drury, who has been excellent so far in 2017. In 45 plate appearances, Drury has a 0.375 wOBA against right-handed pitchers.

Third Base

Yunel Escobar (LAA): $2,700 vs. TOR
Yunel Escobar will probably not win you any GPPs anytime soon unless you use him in an Angels’ stack that happens to go off. However, he is a pretty safe cash game option since he hits leadoff for the Angels and he rarely strikes out. In addition to that, he did pretty well against left-handed pitchers in 2016 with a 0.365 wOBA. It’s hard to predict how Franciso Liriano will do, since he could either strike out ten batters or walk nearly that many. If his command is off at all, Escobar should be able to draw a couple of walks and score a couple of runs.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus (TEX): $2,900 vs. MIN
Elvis Andrus has cooled off a little bit since his hot start, but he still has a 112 wCR+ in 2017, and he’s still in a decent spot of the order to drive in runs. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Phil Hughes who currently is allowing a hard contact percentage of 51.9% to opposing hitters.

Outfielders

Andrew Toles (LAD): $2,200 at SF
A third cheap Dodgers’ lefty who we can consider tonight is Andrew Toles. Joc Pederson left yesterday’s game with a groin injury which will likely put Toles back in the leadoff spot tonight. If that’s the case, it will be hard to justify not using Toles in cash games since he is only $200 above the minimum, he has a great matchup and he’s hitting in a premium spot of the order. Toles hasn’t been bad against right-handed pitching either, with a 0.333 wOBA in 48 plate appearances this season.

David Peralta (ARI): $3,000 vs. SD
David Peralta typically hits in the two-hole for the Diamondbacks against right-handed pitchers and he has done pretty well with a 0.356 wOBA and a 119 wRC+ in 2017. Tonight he has an excellent matchup against Jhoulys Chacin, who has been hit hard by left-handed hitters with a 35.1% hard contact percentage.

Manuel Margot (SD): $2,700 at ARI
Manuel Margot and the Padres will have a huge positive park shift as they move from Petco Park to Chase Field. Margot has been decent so far in 2017 as the Padres’ leadoff hitter, with a 0.368 wOBA and a 0.200 ISO against right-handed hitters in 58 plate appearances. Zack Greinke was not particularly great at home in 2016 with a 4.35 FIP.
