FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Saturday (4/29)

Below are my FanDuel value plays for the eight-game evening slate. These are players that have an opportunity to outperform their low-price FanDuel salaries. Look to add these players to your lineup to allow more wiggle room to fit in a couple studs when building your lineups. Finally, as always, make sure that the player you are selecting is in fact in the lineup before you lock him in.

Pitcher

Dan Straily (MIA): $8,300 vs. PIT
His past two starts have been stellar for the Marlins, as Straily has allowed just four hits and two earned runs in 19-plus innings. In that timeframe, the Miami right-hander has registered 19 strikeouts and averaged a healthy 46 FanDuel points per game. He has a relatively low price tag and gets a matchup against the Pirates, who hit just .214 against the former Reds pitcher in six games last season. Straily should be able to continue his solid start on Saturday.

Catcher

J.T. Realmuto (MIA): $2,900 vs. PIT
Straily’s battery mate enters Saturday on an eight-game hitting streak and has hit .381 in the past week. Realmuto has posted strong numbers against right-handers on the season, averaging .389 and recording an OPS of .912, and faces righty Ivan Nova.

First Base

Joe Mauer (MIN): $3,000 vs. KC
The veteran Mauer has tallied double-digit FanDuel points in two straight games and gets a matchup against Jason Hammel and Kansas City on Saturday. Mauer is acquainted with Hammel, having faced him 17 times. In those at-bats, Mauer has five hits (.294 batting average), one home run and four RBIs.

Second Base

D.J. LeMahieu (COL): $2,900 vs. ARI
Like Mauer, LeMahieu faces off against a familiar foe in Zack Greinke. The Rockies’ second baseman has hit .281 (9-for-32) versus Greinke and has recorded six RBIs in those at-bats. LeMahieu’s average start to the season is the reason for his low cost, but he is a good hitter that will eventually provide the production owners are accustomed to. Perhaps the night off on Friday will get LeMahieu back on track.

Third Base

Yulieski Gurriel (HOU): $2,700 vs. OAK
The Cuban third baseman has been on a roll of late, hitting .400 in the past seven days (10-for-25). He has five multi-hit games in those past seven and matches up versus Oakland’s Andrew Triggs, who allowed six runs in his last outing. He won’t get you much power but can produce runs and RBIs.

Shortstop

Elvis Andrus (TEX): $2,900 vs. LAA
In his past couple games, Andrus is 4-for-8 with three RBIs—good for an average of over 17 FanDuel points per game. The 28-year-old is decently priced and may be starting to get locked in based on his previous two contests.

Outfield

Hernan Perez (MIL): $3,100 vs. ATL
Perez comes into Saturday a blistering 9-for-15 in the past week. In the week he has seven extra-base hits (three doubles, two triples, and two home runs), eight RBIs, and six runs. Furthermore, Perez has tacked on two stolen bases to round out his hot week. Perez has hit .400 and posted an OPS of 1.133 against lefties this year and faces southpaw Jaime Garcia.

Carlos Gonzalez (COL): $2,800 vs. ARI
Gonzalez is another Rockie that has fared well against Greinke, hitting .382 (13-for-34) with four home runs and an OPS of 1.240 versus the righty in his career. Car-Go has raised his batting average .033 points in his last 10 games, and he is starting to get out of the early year funk he found himself in. In the past week, Gonzalez has hit .350 with a home run and four RBIs. His history against Greinke and recent success makes him a good bet for your lineup.

Kole Calhoun (LAA): $2,500 vs. TEX
Calhoun is 5-for-14 in his career against Yu Darvish with two home runs and is priced extremely low. He hasn’t enjoyed the same success he had a year ago, but he has shown some signs of turning it around of late. Calhoun has multi-hit games in two of his past three and has hit safely in seven of his past nine.
