FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Saturday (4/22)

Apr 22, 2017

Portland fans wonder what they ever did to Ian Clark as he just torches their team

There are four games on FanDuel’s main slate today. We probably won’t have the fireworks of last night’s OKC-Houston game when James Harden and Russell Westbrook put on a show, but there is still plenty of star power playing tonight. Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kevin Durant, John Wall, Kawhi Leonard, and Steph Curry are the highest-priced players tonight. If you want to roster one or more of these players then you will need to find some value for your roster today. Here are seven players to consider as value plays.

Remember that the games start earlier than usual for today’s main slate as the first game tips off at 3:00 PM ET. As always, check the news throughout the day and especially 30 minutes before lock. Use all of the information that you gather through your research to make the best decision for your lineup(s). Good luck today!

Malcolm Brogdon (MIL): $5,700 vs. TOR
This position is loaded today with top-heavy talent. I am going to try and play two studs because Point Guard is not typically a position to mess around with and get cute. However, the only less expensive option that I’d consider is Brogdon. Amazingly, Tony Parker’s price went up after he scored 0.2 FanDuel points on Thursday so he is not really a safe option, though he would be contrarian. Brogdon had 23.9 FanDuel points on Thursday. In the three playoff games against the Bucks, he is averaging 22.4 FanDuel points. Overall, in his last 12 games, he has averaged 25.1 FanDuel points. That is not quite 5X value but it is close if you want to consider someone other than the studs today.

Ian Clark (GSW): $3,200 at POR
This game has the highest projected game total at 217 but more importantly, it has the biggest spread of 5.5. Clark could see some additional minutes in this game. In the two previous playoff games, Clark has earned 21.0 and 16.4 FanDuel points. He is a good bet to reach 5X value today.

Norman Powell (TOR): $1,800 at MIL
If you want a total flyer and massive salary relief, then Norman Powell is someone to consider. He is very talented and performs very well when he actually plays. But he doesn’t always play. He has been the plug and play option all year if a Toronto starter was sitting out. On Thursday, Toronto got down big early and the reserves played more. He earned 21.1 FanDuel points in 15 minutes. He has a total of 6 minutes in the previous two playoff games. In the last regular season game of the year, he had 32.4 FanDuel points against the Cavs. DeMarre Carroll has not been playing well so there is the hope that Powell could see more time but this is a big risk. His $1,800 price tag, along with his talent makes him an intriguing option.

Maurice Harkless (POR): $4,900 vs. GSW
He has reached 5X value in four straight games and seven out of his last nine. He went for 33.1 FanDuel points on Wednesday against the Warriors. In his last five games against the Warriors, he has averaged 24.1 FanDuel points.

James Ennis III (MEM): $3,400 vs. SAS
He is cheap and it looks like he will continue to pick up much of the slack with Tony Allen being out. He earned 16.9 FanDuel points in his start on Thursday night. Ennis will reach value with another similar performance today. He also has the potential to exceed value, as well. He had 23.6 FanDuel points on Tuesday. He also had a three-game stretch at the end of April where he averaged 25.0 FanDuel points.

Zach Randolph (MEM): $6,500 vs. SAS
There are no cheap options at this position today that I can recommend in good conscience. If you play Ersan Ilyasova, Jason Smith, Noah Vonleh, or anyone else, it will be because you just have a gut hunch or are related to them. Z-Bo looks to be the best bet to reach 5X value tonight even at $6,500. He had 32.6 FanDuel points on Thursday when he was inserted into the starting lineup. This was on the heels of a 35.5 performance in Tuesday’s game. In his last six games against the Spurs, Z-Bo has averaged 28.1 FanDuel points. He has earned 32+ FanDuel points in six of his last 11 games. He is old and it is against the Spurs defense so there is the usual concern, but he is playing very well right now.

JaVale McGee (GSW): $4,100 at POR
This is a risky pick because he is not playing a lot of minutes but he is absolutely on fire the last few weeks in terms of fantasy points-per-minute. In the last eight games, he has averaged 24.3 FanDuel points while only playing 14.25 MPG. In the two games against Portland so far in the playoffs, he has averaged 23.25 FanDuel points on 11.5 MPG.
