FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Saturday (4/8)

FanDuel NBA Value Plays: Saturday (4/8)

There are only five games on the FanDuel main slate tonight. With the season nearly complete, it will be even more important for you to follow the news throughout the day to see if anyone might sit tonight. You won’t want to get too cute tonight with your roster. As long as the stars are projected to play, you will want to load up on as many good players as possible. However, to do that you will need to find a couple of value plays that will free up salary to get the likes of Damian Lillard, John Wall, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Chris Paul, or Anthony Davis.

Here are 11 options that might provide you with some salary relief tonight. Just like I do with my own lineups, decipher the information available and make the best decisions you can make for the contest(s) you enter. Good luck as you play the last regular season Saturday slate of the year.

POINT GUARD

Shelvin Mack (UTA): $3,600 vs. POR
On a five-game slate like tonight, it is important to get raw points and this is the best position for that. I strongly recommend playing two of the higher tiered point guards tonight and not looking at this position for much value. But if you choose to go value at this spot, then Mack is a decent option. In the last five games since returning from injury, he has averaged 27 MPG and 20.8 FanDuel points. At this salary, he only needs 18 FanDuel points to return 5X value. He has reached value in all five games since returning from injury. On Tuesday night against Portland, he had 18.9 FanDuel points. He is not flashy but should return value if for some strange reason you want to go with a value play at this position.

SHOOTING GUARD

Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot (PHI): $5,500 vs. MIL
Can we go back to the well one more time with TLC? He has hit at least 6X value in six straight games. During that time, he has averaged 36 MPG and 28.2 FanDuel points. He is playing so well lately, that I will probably ride with him one more night. This is by far the highest salary of the year for the rookie out of France. Because of his price and the fact that Milwaukee is solid against shooting guards, he definitely carries some risk tonight from a value perspective.

J.J. Redick (LAC): $4,800 at SAS
He has been taking advantage of his increased playing time recently as he has averaged 35 MPG and 26.4 FanDuel points in his last four games. He has had two 30+ games during that stretch. He will go against a Spurs team tonight that may not be at full strength defensively.

Bryn Forbes (SAS): $3,500 vs. LAC
Bryn is the first of many non-stars from the San Antonio Spurs that I will be mentioning as options for tonight. If Manu Ginobili sits out again then Forbes is definitely a strong option. All Forbes did last night at Dallas was go for 27 points and six assists in 28 minutes of playing time. His 38.6 FanDuel points were definitely a career-high. In his last four games, he has played more than 20 minutes on three occasions but last night was the first time that he really exploded. Though it is worth mentioning that he had 14.9 FanDuel points against a strong Utah defense on Sunday.

SMAL FORWARD

Joe Johnson (UTA): $4,100 at POR
He has averaged 27.8 MPG and 22.3 FanDuel points in his last seven games. He has seen time at the Power Forward position but now that Derrick Favors is back he might play more at just the one position. He probably doesn’t have major upside like he used to but should be fairly solid and can free up some salary for you.

Kyle Anderson (SAS): $3,600 vs. LAC
Trying to predict which San Antonio player will have a breakout game is next to impossible, especially as the season winds down and the Spurs rest players. Anderson got the start last night at Dallas and responded with a nice stat line of 38 minutes, 9 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists, 2 blocks and 3 steals for 38.5 FanDuel points. On Wednesday, he had 22.9 FanDuel points in his 28 minutes. Overall, he has averaged 24.05 FanDuel points in his last four games.

Davis Bertans (SAS): $3,500 vs. LAC
Bertans started at Power Forward last night at Dallas. He is a talented player that the Spurs are excited about and want to see more of down the stretch. In the last three games he has played, Bertans has averaged 32 MPG and 21.4 FanDuel points. He is a pretty safe play tonight with a minimum priced salary. I just don’t believe he has as much upside as David Lee or Kyle Anderson.

Alex Poythress (SAS): $3,500 vs. MIL
In his first two games after being called up from the D-League, Poythress had 18.1 and 24.9 FanDuel points, while getting plenty of minutes (24 and 28). On Thursday, he once again received plenty of opportunity with 26 minutes against the Bulls but he didn’t take advantage of this as he registered only 7.6 FanDuel points. The 76ers still have depth issues so I expect him to still play some. At minimum price, it doesn’t take much for him to return value, but he is certainly a risk being a D-league call up coming off of a bad game.

POWER FORWARD

Al-Farouq Aminu (POR): $5,400 vs. UTA
His price jumped $600 after Thursday’s game so he is not the bargain that he has been for the last couple of weeks. I think you can ride this value train for another night though. He won’t return as much value, especially facing the stout Utah defense but with the shortage of sure-fire value he might be able to hit 5X tonight. In his last seven games, he has averaged 30.8 MPG as he has gotten additional opportunities at the Center position with Jusuf Nurkic sitting out. During that same seven game span, he has averaged 28.7 FanDuel points. He had 21.3 FanDuel points on Tuesday against Utah.

David Lee (SAS): $4,000 vs. LAC
He has gotten a good amount of run the last two games as he has averaged 28.5 MPG. With that increased opportunity, he hasn’t disappointed as he has put up a 24.8 and a 38.1 FanDuel performance. His double-double (16 points and 13 rebounds) last night at Dallas was a reminder of what he is capable of doing when he gets the minutes. He is typically a point-per-minute type player.

CENTER

Dewayne Dedmon (SAS): $3,500 vs. LAC
You never know what the Spurs will do, especially at the end of the year, but if you need a Center punt play then Dedmon might be an option. He has had two outings of 24.5 and 29.1 FanDuel points in his last four games. The problem is that he has also had a 9.1 and 11.2 outing during that stretch. His double-double last night at Dallas gives some hope that he can still put up some numbers, but that is tempered by the fact that tonight is the second of a back-to-back. The last time he faced the Clippers back in February, he put up 30.9 FanDuel points.
