NFL Draft Top Fantasy Landing Spots

NFL Draft Top Fantasy Landing Spots

Last year, Ezekiel Elliott and Derek Henry were both considered excellent rookie running back talents. One ended up stuck behind DeMarco Murray while the other was put at the top of the depth chart right behind the best offensive line in football. As we all know, Henry flashed brilliance but wasn’t on the field enough to make a major impact. Elliott, meanwhile, was one of the top fantasy assets in all of football. It makes a world of difference where a rookie ends up. Some, like Evan Engram, will be competing for targets with several talented receivers. Others, like Christian McCaffrey, are joining an offense that does not fit with his skill set. Let’s take a look at the players who will both play in an offense that will properly utilize their skills and give them a better shot than their draft position suggests would be appropriate:

Jamaal Williams (RB – GB)
Many thought the Packers were a candidate to select a top running back in the first two rounds because while Ty Montgomery solid in his role, he doesn’t seem to be an NFL-quality start running back. If you watch the film, it won’t take long before you realize it is only a matter of time before he earns himself the lion’s share of the carries in this excellent Green Bay offense. He is a patient power back who can replicate what Eddie Lacy provided before his weight and injury issues. With that being said, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him being drafted in the first round this time next season.

Marlon Mack (RB – IND)
Frank Gore turns 34 years old in two weeks. Yikes. Historical production from older backs bodes extremely well for Mack, who is one of the best athletes at the position this draft. He is tremendous at breaking tackles and catching out of the backfield. Mack can break off multiple big runs in a game thanks to top-notch agility and acceleration.  If he is able to earn some reps, he could fit like a glove in Andrew Luck‘s offense.

Zay Jones (WR – BUF)
Really what this comes down to, is that whoever the Bills drafted to catch passes would end up in this article. The Bills lost 207 targets this off-season and will need to throw the ball to someone. If Sammy Watkins can stay on the field, his numbers should soar, but if he doesn’t Jones is a good bet to become the fantasy wide receiver rookie of the year. Jones put up video game numbers at East Carolina last season with 1,746 yards. He is the all-time FBS receptions leader with 399. He is the absolute perfect fit for what the Bills need.

ArDarius Stewart (WR – NYJ)
The Jets got rid of Brandon Marshall and are looking to do the same with Eric Decker. Whether or not they are able, both Stewart and fellow rookie, Chad Hansen could see targets early and often. The Jets may be a run first team in theory, but when you are playing from behind, as they commonly will, your gameplan immediately becomes pass pass pass. Stewart had no quarterback throwing him the ball in college so we aren’t quite sure just how good he is, but there seems to be some serious upside with him so keep a close eye on this one.

David Njoku (TE – CLE)
With Terrell Pryor gone and the Browns still likely playing from behind, Njoku could be in line for a ton of targets. Rookie tight ends tend to be slow to make a fantasy impact, but if anyone can do it, this monster red-zone threat is the perfect candidate. Add in the fact that DeShone Kizer might take over for Cody Kessler at some point, and Njoku might be in line for even more targets, seeing that rookie QBs target TEs significantly more.

Joshua Dobbs (QB – PIT)
This isn’t one of the most talented quarterbacks in the draft class, but he has a brilliant mind for the game and is a strong decision maker. Tossing anyone behind that offensive line with Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell to throw the ball to, should help even a game manager become a worthwhile fantasy asset. It could be as early as next season that we get to see Dobbs take over for Big Ben, and in the meantime, he gets to learn from one of the best.
