Daily Pitcher Overview 6/30 (Start/Sit, Streamers, DFS)

Every day, I get a dozen start/sit questions about the day’s pitchers and plenty of streaming questions. I have been using a simple sit/start algorithm on my own teams for a handful of years so I’ll run each option through it to give you the quick answer you are looking for. I’ll also give some insight on my favorite streaming option of the day as well as my top DFS cash game and GPP play.

Top Streamer

Mike Montgomery (CHC @ CIN)

I typically avoid streamers in Cincy and with rain on the way, but the streaming options are ugly tonight and Montgomery is solid and reliable. He won’t pile up strikeouts, but he is a good bet to add a win to your tally and won’t hurt the ratios while he does. Plus, the wind is blowing in fairly hard tonight so the Great American Launchpad should become more of a normal ballpark this evening.

Top DFS Cash Game Option

Lance McCullers (HOU vs NYY)

You can’t go wrong with Alex Wood, Jacob deGrom or McCullers, as all are great bets to pick up the win, quality start and 6+ strikeouts, but the primary difference is price. McCullers sits $1,000 cheaper than Wood and a full $2,600 cheaper than deGrom. That extra cash could move you from two replacement level hitters to all-stars like Jean Segura and Robinson Cano. Sure, the Yankees hit a lot of homers, but McCullers throws so many nasty curves that he should be able to limit those and rack up the Ks.

Top DFS Tournament Option

Robbie Ray (COL @ ARI)

Everyone knows Coors is a major hitter’s park, but the extent of which is rarely understood. Just to give you an idea, Nolan Arenado, one the “top 5 hitters in baseball” has batted just .263/.310/.463 on the road through his career. That is about what we expected from a prospect of his caliber and puts him in the same range as a Tommy Joseph or Brett Gardner. Carlos Gonzalez is more of the same with a .254/.309/.429 career away line. My point is that this Rockies lineup is much worse than the general public knows. Ray should have no trouble mowing them down at home tonight and has immense upside.

Start/Sit Table

Guide

*All stats based on our daily projections
OWN – ownership % between ESPN and Yahoo!
Score – Based on an algorithm that weighs if their ratios are too high to offset the odds of them getting a win and add strikeouts to your team totals
Recommendation – For Roto and H2H season-long leagues
DFS Cash – Not based on value, but performance only. Heavily favors ratios and odds at getting the win and quality start
DFS GPP – Not based on value, but performance only. Built to focus more on strikeout potential and stamina
*The table is sorted by their season-long fantasy appeal
