We have two afternoon games today which means a 13-game Wednesday evening slate. There aren’t any standout pitchers unless you are brave enough to consider Strasburg safe with the wind blowing out against the Cubs. There are, however, a couple of cheaper starting pitchers to choose from that will allow us to load up our lineup with some of the great bats from the slate. We’ve nailed four straight for 160+ FD points so here’s to hoping we keep the streak alive tonight.

Pitcher
David Paulino (HOU) : $7,500 vs OAK
I wrote in my new daily pitching column about why I love Blake Snell today as a streamer, but he is a bit risky for cash games. Luis Perdomo, Alex Meyer, Daniel Norris and Carlos Rodon could be sneaky cheap plays as well, but Paulino is safer. We could spend up on Marcus Stroman, Yu Darvish or even Trevor Bauer, who I’d be willing to bet will lead the slate in K’s tonight, but then we wouldn’t be able to squeeze in the top hitters so Paulino it is.
Houston is a big (-178) favorite, as usual and Oakland is expected by Vegas to score just 4.02 runs. Granted, Paulino hasn’t been pitching as deep into games, but the win looks good to go and he should keep the earned runs to a minimum. Most important, perhaps, is that he should have no problem racking up the K’s against a lackluster Oakland offense that is 4th in strikeouts and 23rd in runs scored.
Red Sox Stack
Sandy Leon (C) : $2,400
Sam Travis (1B) : $2,300
Dustin Pedroia (2B) : $2,800
Xander Bogaerts (SS): $3,500
I’m going right back to it after yesterday’s huge implied total. The lefty SP leaving the game after two innings hurt Travis’ day but he should see 3 PA against them today and remember, he batted .352/.420/.568 with power and speed against LHP in the minors and is much better in the majors so far this season. Leon, like Travis, eats lefties for breakfast. He has a .970 OPS against them over the last 18 months.
Pedroia and Xander don’t have such exaggerated splits against lefties, but they are quite a bit better. Tonight, they all go up against Adalberto Mejia and the team has an implied total of 5.97 runs with the wind blowing out hard. Expect plenty more fireworks as Mejia has allowed 20 extra-base hits in 45 innings this season and 17 of those were to righties.
Mini Diamondbacks Stack
Jake Lamb (3B) : $3,700
David Peralta (OF): $3,400
If I had room to plug Paul Goldschmidt and Chris Hermann in this stack, I’d be thrilled. Adam Wainwright may be 7-5 on the season, but he has been downright terrible at home. His home splits are .239/.315/.356. When he goes on the road, it balloons to .356/.420/.585 and last year was much of the same. Add in Chase Field and it makes all the sense in the world to use two power hitting lefties who destroy righty pitchers.
Super Sluggers
Bryce Harper (OF): $4,600
Aaron Judge (OF): $4,800
Washington’s lineup has been rolling lately, so even when they go up against a crafty veteran like John Lackey, Vegas expects loads of runs. Harper should have plenty of RBI opportunities, and with the wind blowing out fairly hard to center, he is a prime candidate to park one or two in the bleachers.
Judge, meanwhile, draws Carlos Rodon, who I love as a waiver wire addition, mind you. With that being said, he struggles mightily against righties and gets perhaps the best righty in baseball against him in Aaron Judge with the wind blowing at 23 MPH to left. Rodon has allowed 34 homers in his career and 32 of them were to righties. Judge, meanwhile, has a 1.208 OPS against lefties this season and a homer in less than every 10 at-bats.
