FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Tuesday (6/27)

Tuesday brings a full schedule of night games including a match-up at hitter-friendly Chase Field in Arizona and Max Scherzer taking the hill in D.C. for the Nationals against Jake Arrieta and the Cubs. Here are value plays for FanDuel.

Pitcher

Mike Fiers (HOU): $8,300 vs. OAK
Fiers has been a pleasant surprise for fantasy owners in June. The right-hander has given up only four earned runs in 25.1 innings pitched with an incredible 0.89 ERA over his last three starts. We know Fiers won’t keep up this pace, but with a full slate of games, he makes for an interesting option in GPPs. The A’s have been dismal on the road with a 12-25 record and the Astros rank 4th in home runs vs. lefties and face Sean Manaea. A win seems to be in Fiers future.

Catcher

Yadier Molina (STL): $3,000 @ ARI
Molina has been having a decent June with 19 hits, 11 runs, and four homers. He is batting .333 over his last seven games and takes his bat to hitter-friendly Chase Field to battle Taijuan Walker who holds a 4.56 ERA at home. Though Walker hasn’t given up too many long balls this season, a couple hits and RBIs could be in store for Molina.

First Base

Justin Bour (MIA): $3,000 vs. NYM
It’s been a rough month for Robert Gsellman. The New York Met’s righty gave up seven earned runs in just four innings in his last appearance and holds an ERA of 6.75 in the month of June. Justin Bour has 12 home runs vs. right-handed pitching and 11 of those came at home. Bour has 37 hits, 30 RBIs and boasts a .301 average at home. I don’t know about you, but I like those numbers.

Second Base

Eric Sogard (MIL): $3,100 @ CIN
Where did Eric Sogard come from? With a .249 career average, nobody expected Sogard to be a shining star for the Brew Crew this season. But, the 31-year-old Arizona State alum is batting .367 vs. right-handed pitching, leading Milwaukee in that category. Sogard will face Tim Adleman for the first time in the hitter’s haven that is Great American Ball Park. It could be a good first meeting for Sogard.

Third Base

Anthony Rendon (WAS): $3,000 vs. CHC
This season, Jake Arrieta hasn’t been the ace that we’ve known him to be. Anthony Rendon hasn’t seen much of the righty but is 3-for-9 off of him with a double and RBI. He is batting .333 over his last seven days and for the price, I don’t think Rendon will have a large ownership as people are still a bit fearful of Arrieta’s name. Might be a good play to consider in GPP tournaments.

Shortstop

Eduardo Escobar (MIN): $2,900 @ BOS
Here is a secret. Eduardo Escobar is listed as a shortstop on FanDuel. Did you see his stats against lefties? I’ll save you the time. He leads the Twins on the season with a .362 average vs. southpaws including four homers and 12 RBIs. He goes up against a somewhat effective pitcher in Drew Pomeranz, who has an ERA over 4.00 on the season. He’s is worth a flyer in GPPs.

Outfield

Ian Desmond (COL): $2,900 @ SF
Matt Cain has pitched about as bad as the Giants have played this season. He has an ERA over 8.00 for the month of June and gave up seven earned runs against the lowly Atlanta Braves his last time out. Ian Desmond is 7-for-19 with seven hits against Cain lifetime. Even though Desmond is batting .208 over his last seven games, I’m still on board.

Lonnie Chisenhall (CLE): $2,800 vs. TEX
Often overlooked, Lonnie Chisenhall is quietly batting .301 with 10 homers. The Rangers will bring Tyson Ross back to the hill after giving up nine runs over his last two starts. Chisenhall is batting .417 with 10 hits over his last seven games. I’m game with this match-up.

Brian Goodwin (WAS): $2,700 vs. CHC
Another GPP option that’s worked for me recently is Brian Goodwin of the Nationals. Batting .292 with two home runs over the last seven games, Goodwin has earned his increase in price on FanDuel.
