Welcome to the Wednesday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. We have 13 games to work with on this Wednesday night slate. As always, be sure to check out the weather and the team lineups throughout the day. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for today.

Pitcher
David Paulino (HOU): $7,500 vs. OAK
The overall pitching landscape for the main slate tonight is not really that great. You pretty much have Stephen Strasburg at the top and then a bunch of guys who could either be great or get blown up. Strasburg is definitely the way to go in cash games, but a pivot to David Paulino in GPPs might be a difference maker tonight. Paulino has pretty good strikeout upside with a 9.36 K/9, and he will be facing a team who strikes out at the third-highest rate against right-handed pitching. Paulino’s ERA does not look great, but his FIP of 3.98 suggests that he has been extremely unlucky this season.
Catcher
Russell Martin (TOR): $2,800 vs. BAL
Martin has been hitting in the two-hole for almost an entire week, which is an outstanding spot for a catcher who is priced under $3,000. Tonight he has a solid matchup against Wade Miley who has struggled against right-handed hitters this season.
First Base
Sam Travis (BOS): $2,300 vs. MIN
Although it’s a small sample size, Travis has crushed left-handed pitching in his brief time at the MLB level. Tonight he has an excellent matchup against Adalberto Mejia who has really struggled with his command and the long ball this season.
Second Base
Dustin Pedroia (BOS): $2,800 vs. MIN
Another cheap Red Sox hitter who we can use tonight against Mejia is Dustin Pedroia. Pedroia has always done well against left-handed pitchers and that is holding true this season as well with a 0.395 wOBA.
Third Base
David Freese (PIT): $2,800 vs. TB
Another player who has succeeded against left-handed pitchers throughout his career is Freese with a 0.366 wOBA. Tonight he has a decent matchup against Blake Snell who has allowed a 0.361 wOBA to right-handed hitters this season.
Shortstop
Eric Sogard (MIL): $3,000 at CIN
Sogard has been amazing in the leadoff spot for the Brewers this season with a 0.440 wOBA against opposing right-handed pitchers. Luis Castillo made his MLB debut his last time out and didn’t look too bad. I think this kid definitely has a promising future, but I will not be afraid to use a bat or two tonight from the Brewers.
Outfielders
Chris Young (BOS): $2,500 vs. MIN
Another cheap, right-handed Red Sox hitter who we can use against Mejia tonight is Young. Young has been better against right-handed pitchers this season, but historically he has been much better against left-handed pitchers.
Manuel Margot (SD): $2,500 vs. ATL
Margot has not been great this season by any means. However, he is super cheap and typically hits in a premium spot of the order as the Padres’ leadoff hitter. Tonight he has an outstanding matchup against Bartolo Colon, who has allowed a 0.424 wOBA against right-handed hitters. If Margot can just get on base one time, he can potentially steal a base and score a run for you.
Max Kepler (MIN): $2,600 at BOX
Kepler has cooled off, but he still has pretty good numbers against right-handed pitchers this season with 0.359 wOBA. Rick Porcello has been worse against right-handed pitchers this season. However, he has also struggled with lefties, allowing a 0.351 wOBA and a 46.2% hard contact rate.
