Oftentimes, the weekend after a Major Championship sees weaker competition by the golfers included in the PGA Tour. The exact opposite tends to happen with those managers that are putting together a daily fantasy golf team. This means that the competition, by proportion, will be a little bit tougher this week for the Travelers Championship than it was last week for the U.S. Open. My goal is to point you in the right direction so that you have an edge over others. I’ve put together a sample roster for you to use to start your own draft.
Before you draft a team on FanDuel, make sure that you know how their scoring is different from other DFS sites. At FanDuel, the scoring system has recently changed, and this creates a little more confusion. For your benefit, I’ve put together a roster, breaking down some of the key elements below. The dollar amount included is the golfer’s salary on FanDuel. Hopefully, this will help you to draft a stronger team than your competition.

Reasoning
After last weekend, Justin Thomas has begun to turn a lot of heads. He finished T-9 at the U.S. Open, but only because he fell apart on Sunday. Before that, he had a tournament record 63 round. Thomas is a strong golfer, and although placing him at the top of your roster is a risk, he is cheap enough that this can be made up for in other areas. And this tournament is a much weaker field than what he saw last weekend. Thanks to the new format on FanDuel, a golfer with a strong chance of making the cut is always an asset, and Thomas fits this bill perfectly.
Patrick Reed is another golfer with strong momentum on his side. He scored 80.7 fantasy points last weekend after a T-13 finish. Like Thomas, Reed had a weak Sunday finish but was still able to finish with a six-under. Reed has made 15 out of 18 cuts this season and is averaging 63.5 fantasy points per tournament. And like Thomas, Reed’s price is right here. He is a high performer with a strong chance of making the cut that will allow you to add a lot of value to your roster in other places.
Lucas Glover, Robert Streb, and Vaughn Taylor are the three golfers I chose to round out the bottom of my roster. Of the available choices at these price levels (think bottom tier), these three give you the best blend of expected fantasy points and the highest likelihood of making the cut. Glover has made 14 out of 18 cuts, Streb has made 11 out of 20, and Taylor has made 13 out of 18. Of these three, Streb is the weakest, but his average fantasy point total of 49.3 is artificially low. He has scored more than 50 fantasy points in each of his last two tournaments, and it is realistic to expect him to do this once again.
