Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Aaron Hicks, Yu Darvish, Bud Norris

Fantasy Baseball Injury Report: Aaron Hicks, Yu Darvish, Bud Norris

The scuffling first place New York Yankees took another hit with the loss of center fielder Aaron Hicks to an injured rib cage sustained taking a practice swing in a 7-6 loss to the Rangers on Sunday.

According to a report by the Associated Press, Hicks could miss up to a month of action due to the oblique injury, opening the door for Jacoby Ellsbury to possibly return from the disabled list and resume the starting centerfield role for the Bronx Bombers.

Here are a few other injuries we are monitoring for week 13 of the fantasy baseball season.

Marwin Gonzalez (IF/OF – HOU)
In keeping with the theme of oblique strains, Marin Gonzalez was held out of both games over the weekend due to tightness in his side. He is currently listed as day-to-day, and his injury is not thought to be as severe as Aaron Hicks. This could just be a precautionary move by the team and Gonzalez could return to the field as early as Tuesday when the club hosts the Athletics at Minute Maid Park.

Dexter Fowler (OF – STL)
Not much has gone right for the St. Louis Cardinals this season, with the red birds currently six games under .500 and five games out of first place behind the NL Central-leading Brewers. Part of the reason for the Cardinals’ struggles has been injuries, with the latest coming to outfielder Dexter Fowler, who was placed on the 10-day DL with a right-heel spur and quad injuries. Fowler is set to see a foot specialist, which could be an indication that the team expects him to miss more than just 10 days due to his injury.

Jason Heyward (OF – CHC)
A left-hand abrasion forced the Cubs to place outfielder Jason Heyward on the 10-day DL on June 22, retroactive to June 19th. The injury does not appear to be severe, and a return to action on Thursday is likely for Heyward.

Yu Darvish (SP – TEX)
Darvish left Friday’s epic game between fellow countryman Mashiro Tanaka in the 8th inning with right biceps tightness. Darvish was masterful, allowing just two hits and zero walks while striking out 10 Yankees over seven innings of work. Although he did not get the win, Darvish owners can breathe a sigh of relief as it appears that the removal after seven innings was precautionary, and Darvish will make his next scheduled start at Cleveland on the 28th.

David Price (SP – BOS)
A cracked fingernail on the throwing hand of Price forced the southpaw to be removed in the sixth inning of Sunday’s game against the Angels. Price downplayed the injury with reporters after the game and manager John Farrell said he is confident that Price will make his next start on Thursday against the Twins. It should be noted that this is the second finger-related injury for Price, who also dealt with a blister earlier in the month.

Carlos Gonzalez (OF – COL)
Cargo was not in the starting lineup over the weekend due to right shoulder tightness. The aging vet is currently listed as day-to-day and could return to action when the Rockies play the Giants starting Monday.

Bud Norris (RP – LAA)
Right nnee inflammation hampered Norris over the past three weeks, forcing the Angels closer to the 10-day disabled list on June 20th, retroactive to June 19th. Manager Mike Scioscia told reporters after the game that an MRI on Norris’ knee revealed no damage and the team believes Norris will be activated when eligible on June 29th. It remains to be seen if Norris will continue to act as the primary closer for the Angels with Houston Street and Cam Bedrosian healthy and in the mix.

Updating Previous Injuries

Chris Davis (1B/DH – BAL): Oblique
Received PRP injections on June 20th, but has yet to begin baseball activities.

Jayson Werth (OF – WAS): Left Foot Contusion
Is currently out of his walking boot and rehabbing the injury. Return timetable still up in the air.

Noah Syndergaard (SP – NYY): Oblique
Still four weeks away from starting a throwing program. Late season return possible but could be shut down if the Mets continue to struggle.

Dallas Keuchel (SP – HOU) (SP – HOU): Neck
Progressing well. Throwing from 120-feet, but will not likely return to action before the All-Star Break.
