DraftKings MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (7/26)

DraftKings MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (7/26)

There are 10 games on the main slate for Wednesday, and it doesn’t look like weather will play a big role this evening. Let’s take a look at a tournament lineup for DraftKings.

Pitcher

Jake Arrieta (CHC): $9,300 @ CWS
The White Sox have scuffled out of the All-Star Break against right-handed pitching, as they sport a 79 wRC+ and a strikeout rate of 22.8% over the last 12 days. Arrieta continues to whittle away at his ERA, as he’s brought it down by more than a half run since mid-June, and I think he continues that trend tonight. If he can maintain his control (the White Sox aren’t showing much patience), he should be in line to post his third straight outing of strong fantasy production.

Carlos Martinez (STL): $8,400 vs. COL
The Rockies are a different animal away from Coors Field and I don’t mind picking on them with a moderately priced pitcher in Martinez as a result. While Martinez can get roughed up from time to time, he still possesses nice strikeout upside (9.46 K/9) that can be tough to find out of a second starting pitcher. The Rockies have been a bit better against right-handed pitching since the All-Star Break, but despite their recent production, they still rank below average (94 wRC+) and strike out a decent amount. Martinez has limited his opponents to two runs or fewer in consecutive outings, and he is a good bet to repeat that trend tonight, while hopefully tacking on a few more strikeouts and a win.

Other Notables

Catcher

Willson Contreras (CHC): $4,600 @ CWS
Contreras is absolutely rolling right now, as he’s collected 15 hits over his last 44 at-bats (.341 AVG), including five home runs and 15 runs batted in. He will get a favorable park for right-handed power tonight, against a pitcher in James Shields who can serve up plenty of fly balls. The Cubs have the highest implied run total of the evening, so targeting their cleanup hitter against a poor pitcher makes plenty of sense.

Other Notables

First Base

Edwin Encarnacion (CLE): $4,900 vs. LAA
First base is loaded tonight, but I’m taking a stand and locking Encarnacion into lineups across the board, as he draws a favorable matchup at home against Ricky Nolasco. While Nolasco has mixed in two big outings over his last four starts, he’s also been absolutely destroyed in the two other outings. On the season, Nolasco has allowed 16 home runs to right-handed hitters, with his hard contact rate at a whopping 40.5%. Encarnacion has hit well over his last 10 games, posting a .281 AVG with 11 runs batted in, while smacking three home runs over that span.

Other Notables

Second Base

Paul DeJong (STL): $3,500 vs. COL
DeJong has hit a home run in three out of his last four games, and he will hold the platoon advantage over Jeff Hoffman, who has struggled against right-handed hitters this season. Provided DeJong slots into the top third of the batting order, he’d be a cheap source of power at second base this evening.

Other Notables

Third Base

Mike Moustakas (KC): $4,200 @ DET
Moustakas is hot right now, and he stands to keep that momentum going tonight in a plus matchup against Anibal Sanchez. While Sanchez hasn’t been quite as bad as of late, he’s still giving up way too much hard contact and that can’t sustain itself over the long haul. Moustakas hasn’t fared well against Sanchez in 23 career at-bats (.174 AVG), but he does have a home run against him.

Other Notables

Shortstop

Francisco Lindor (CLE): $4,700 vs. LAA
I picked on Ricky Nolasco earlier, and with the way Lindor has been hitting, it’s tough not to get as much exposure to him as possible tonight. While the counting statistics haven’t been exactly eye-popping, he has collected 15 hits over his last 41 at-bats (.366 AVG), which includes four doubles and a home run. I expect the Indians to get on Nolasco early, which should translate for plenty of opportunities for Lindor to produce.

Other Notables

Outfielders

Jose Bautista (TOR): $3,900 vs. OAK
Paul Blackburn has only pitched 25 innings on the season for the Athletics, but he’s done nothing over that span to dissuade me from picking on him tonight. Bautista is ice cold right now, as he’s got just five hits over his last 43 at-bats (.116 AVG), so there’s certainly some risk involved here. That being said, I don’t mind picking on a mediocre pitcher with a low strikeout rate, who possesses an xFIP that is nearly two and a half runs higher than his actual ERA.

Nick Williams (PHI): $3,300 vs. HOU
Mike Fiers continues to pitch well for the Astros, but he’s still prone to the long ball, as he’s allowed three over his last 20 innings pitched. He’s a heavy fly ball pitcher, which is precisely what we’re targeting with a bopper like Williams. Williams has impressed since being called up to the major league level, as he’s posted a .303 AVG and hit four home runs (three over last 10 games) with 18 runs batted in. He’s a cheap source of power, and the matchup aligns perfectly for Williams to hit one out tonight.

Nomar Mazara (TEX): $3,100 vs. MIA
There’s no denying that Mazara has underwhelmed to say the least this season, but he’s too young (22 years old) to completely write off just yet. He had a much needed outing last night in which he went 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored, so here’s to hoping that’s the spark he needed to get things rolling again. He will face an uninspiring pitcher in Jose Urena tonight, so the potential is certainly there to keep the momentum going in the right direction.
