There are just eight games on the main slate for the first Monday of July, so there will likely be plenty of overlap due to a small player pool. Keep this in mind when constructing your lineups today, as you’ll need to differentiate yourself even more than usual if you’re playing tournaments. Let’s take a look at a tournament lineup for FanDuel.

Pitcher
Adam Wainwright (STL): $7,700 vs. MIA
As a team, the Marlins have floundered in the bottom half of the league against right-handed pitching for most of the season, which puts Wainwright in play tonight. He’s been a volatile commodity for sure, but Wainwright has looked sharp over his last two outings. Sure, he had two starts in June in which he allowed nine earned runs in each outing, but there’s also been some upside worth targeting as well. The key for Wainwright is limiting free passes, as he’s walked 3.38 batters per nine innings this season. The Marlins strikeout at an average rate, and Wainwright strikes out hitters at an average rate, so it all comes down to run prevention and capturing a win tonight.
Other Notables
- Masahiro Tanaka (NYY): $9,000 vs. TOR (GPP)
- Ivan Nova (PIT): $8,300 @ PHI (GPP)
- Jharel Cotton (OAK): $7,400 vs. CWS (GPP)
- Jeff Hoffman (COL): $5,500 vs. CIN
Catcher
Mike Zunino (SEA): $2,500 vs. KC
Zunino has cooled off a bit from his torrid mid-June pace, but he’s still a cheap source of power that’s worth targeting in the right situation. Ian Kennedy‘s fly ball rate is above 50% to same-handed hitters this season, and that’s left him prone to home runs (eight allowed to right-handed hitters). Catcher isn’t a fun position to fill this evening, so taking the cheap power route with someone like Zunino seems to make sense.
Other Notables
- Gary Sanchez (NYY): $3,800 vs. TOR (GPP)
- Salvador Perez (KC): $3,300 @ SEA (GPP)
First Base
Hanley Ramirez (BOS): $3,500 @ TEX
Ramirez will hold the platoon advantage over lefty Martin Perez, and with his price seeming to be a bit soft given his recent production, this feels like a good buying opportunity. Perez is returning from the disabled list tonight, and given his struggles against right-handed hitters, I look for Ramirez to continue his recent success.
Other Notables
- Joey Votto (CIN): $5,000 @ COL
- Mark Reynolds (COL): $3,600 vs. CIN (GPP)
Second Base
Robinson Cano (SEA) : $3,600 vs. KC
Cano is in a great spot this evening at home against Ian Kennedy, who has been hit hard by lefties this season. Kennedy’s hard minus soft contact rate is over 30% to left-handed hitters, and he’s allowed eight home runs along the way. Cano is a steady producer and is a rock-solid option at this price.
Other Notables
- Scooter Gennett (CIN): $4,100 @ COL (GPP)
- Brian Dozier (MIN): $3,500 vs. LAA (GPP)
Third Base
Kyle Seager (SEA) : $2,700 vs. KC
Seager has had a rough first half, but he’s shown signs of life as of late. He will have a great shot at keeping things rolling tonight, as he faces Ian Kennedy, who has been nothing to write home about. A lot of focus will be rightfully placed on Coors Field, but this makes for a cheap leverage play away from there tonight.
Other Notables
- Nolan Arenado (COL): $4,800 vs. CIN
- Miguel Sano (MIN): $3,700 vs. LAA (GPP)
- Josh Donaldson (TOR): $3,300 @ NYY (GPP)
Shortstop
Jean Segura (SEA) : $3,200 vs. SEA
I have zero faith in Ian Kennedy tonight, and Segura is yet another Seattle bat worth targeting as a result. Segura has been on a roll since returning from the disabled list, and he frankly feels a bit underpriced given his production. Shortstop is tricky to fill tonight, so give Segura a look in the middle tier.
Other Notables
- Zack Cozart (CIN): $3,600 @ COL (GPP)
- Xander Bogaerts (BOS): $3,600 @ TEX (check status)
Outfielders
Charlie Blackmon (COL): $4,400 vs. CIN
Blackmon and the Rockies return home to face a talented prospect, but one who will have to figure out how to pitch in a unique environment tonight. Blackmon continues to be an excellent fantasy producer on a daily basis, and he should continue this trend tonight against a rookie right-handed pitcher.
Khris Davis (OAK): $4,100 vs. CWS
Davis can mash with the best of them, and he will be in a position to continue hitting baseballs a long way tonight. Davis will hold the platoon advantage over Carlos Rodon, who certainly has the talent to be a high-end pitcher in the major leagues, but has still had his issues in the past. Rodon has had some serious issues with right-handed hitters in his first two seasons, and it’s tough not to love Davis’ power upside as a result.
Cameron Maybin (LAA): $3,200 @ MIN
Adalberto Mejia has been susceptible to right-handed hitters, which puts Maybin in play tonight. The speed upside is very tantalizing, especially at this price, and Maybin should be in a position to swipe his first bag in his last five games.
Other Notables
- Aaron Judge (NYY): $5,100 vs. TOR
- Adam Duvall (CIN): $4,400 @ COL (GPP)
- Mookie Betts (BOS): $4,300 @ TEX
- Billy Hamilton (CIN): $3,800 @ COL
- Nomar Mazara (TEX): $3,600 vs. BOS (GPP)
- Scott Schebler (CIN): $3,300 @ COL (GPP)
- Shin-Soo Choo (TEX): $3,100 vs. BOS
