FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (7/18)

FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (7/18)

We’ve got an exciting 15-game slate today with Coors Field, Clayton Kershaw, loads of a value and some cheap high-upside starting pitchers. It was hard to settle on just one lineup that I loved, but as you may have guessed, I landed on Kershaw and the value bats.

The NYY @ MIN game will almost definitely be delayed and may be canceled so be sure to keep an eye peeled. There is no other significant weather of note.

Pitcher

Clayton Kershaw (LAD) : $12,700  @ CHW

Our model projected Kershaw to score 15 more points than the number two pitcher today, Robbie Ray. While there are plenty of high-upside arms to choose from on the slate, it is tough to pass up the extremely safe floor and 15-strikeout shutout type of upside. Vegas has him as a whopping -300 favorite today with less than 3 implied runs against.

Catcher

James McCann (DET): $2,300 @ KCR

Alex Avila has been so great this season that McCann may not end up in the lineup, but that would be a shame because he obliterates lefties to a tune of .265/.357/.694 this season. Don’t think it is just a small sample size either, as he has handled them both in 2016 and 2015 as well. If that isn’t enough, consider that his opponent, Travis Wood, has an OPS against righties over the past three seasons that is 41% higher than what he has been able to do against lefties.

First Base

Edit: Sam Travis is out of the lineup so I’ll be using Matt Holliday instead.

Second Base

Kolten Wong (STL) : $2,400 @ NYM

Rafael Montero might just strike out a dozen tonight, but there is a better chance he walks five and surrenders seven runs. Wong is the top value in the Cardinals lineup tonight, seeing that he is getting on base 38.6% of the time and has displayed both power and speed during his career.

Third Base

Edit: With Sam Travis out, I had to save money so I dropped Freddie Freeman for Manny Machado

Shortstop

Marcus Semien (OAK) : $2,400 @ TBR

Blake Snell is much better than his stats indicate, but Semien’s price is just too good to pass up. He swatted 27 homers last season and was a savage against lefties with 11 bombs in just 148 at-bats. There isn’t much at the position today unless you spend up for a big name so he was the first name I put in my lineup after Kershaw.

Outfield

Mikie Mahtookk (DET) : $2,300 @ KCR

We already covered Travis Wood versus righties in regards to McCann tonight, but Mahtook is excellent against the split as well. His OPS versus lefties is 43% higher than against righties through his career. Also, factor in that Kansas City tends to sit around the fifth best ballpark for hitters.

Brandon Guyer (CLE) : $2,200 @ SFG

There is a hefty ballpark downgrade here for Guyer tonight, but with the wind blowing out at 17 MPH to center. He should be batting lead-off against Ty Blach, and while Guyer hasn’t done much this season, he was among the best hitters in baseball versus lefties last season with a .333/.461/.553 line. That success is by no means a fluke, as he has been a lefty-masher his entire career.

Mike Trout (LAA) : $4,500 vs WAS

At times in his career, Edwin Jackson has been a quality pitcher, but those days are long gone. This season, he has been shelled for 7 runs in 5 innings to build off last season’s 5.89 ERA over 84 innings pitched. He gets his first start today and the Angels have a 5.09 implied total against him. Trout should be at the heart of the slugfest, so if you have the money, don’t hesitate to add him to your lineup.
