FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (7/19)

FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Wednesday (7/19)

There are 15 games going today, but 7 of them will take place in the afternoon so we have a smaller Wednesday evening slate to work with than what we are used to. The Coors game is in the afternoon, but there will be plenty of runs to be scored across the slate and a few aces to decide between if we choose to play it safe.

No weather concerns tonight!

Pitcher

Jacob deGrom (NYM): $11,200

Let me be clear, Zack Greinke is the better pitcher of the two, has a better chance to win according to Vegas and is cheaper, so he is by no means a bad option. With that all being said, deGrom takes the cake for me because he isn’t playing in the Great American Launchpad and because he has been so dominant of late. 64, 30, 64, 52, 52, 52. Those are his FanDuel points over his past six performances, and against some good offenses too (Rockies, Nationals, Cubs). There is enough value on the slate that I am willing to pay the steep price tag.

Orioles Stack

Welington Castillo (C): $2,700 (edit: with Castillo sitting, I am upgrading to Alex Avila at C and saving money by switching from Schoop to Rougned Odor)
Jonathan Schoop (2B): $3,000
Manny Machado (3B): $3,500
Trey Mancini (OF): $2,800

The over under on this game is 11.5, which is huge by the way, and you could feasibly stack both clubs with their top options while still pitching the most expensive pitcher on the slate. I won’t be doing that because there is insane value in the next mini-stack, but the double-stack is a worthy cash game approach for tonight too.

Martin Perez has been pitching better lately, but still carries a whopping 1.64 WHIP this season and the ERA that goes with it. There is good reason as to why Vegas has the Orioles at over 5.5 implied runs. To make matters better, Perez gets rocked by righties. He has surrendered 35 extra-base hits this season and 30 of them have been to righties. Over the past three seasons, Perez has an OPS allowed that is 37% higher against righties than lefties and what do you know, we have four righties to stack who all happen to crush lefties.

Of the bunch, the absolute must play is Mancini, who had 3.05 FD Pts per minor league plate appearance against lefties, yet we get him for a dime here. Castillo, Schoop and Machado could all be replaced by other great plays like Alex Avila, Rougned Odor and Jake Lamb for similar prices, but it seems safer to me to stack the four as this lineup is sure to produce runs one way or another.

Mini Diamondbacks Stack

A.J. Pollock (OF): $3,400
David Peralta (OF): $3,000

One of my favorite occurrences every DFS season is when the Rockies or Diamondbacks travel to Yankee Stadium, Miller Park, Globe Life Park, SunTrust, and especially the Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Their prices all plummet, but we are still in a great offensive environment with homers galore. What’s more, is that the Reds often throw crummy pitchers to take full advantage of.

It is easily forgotten that Pollock was a top 10 fantasy player just two seasons ago before his big injury. He isn’t hitting a bunch of homers this year or going to steal 50+ bases, but he still has 10.7 FD Pts per game which is better than much more expensive outfielders like Nelson Cruz, Andrew McCutchen, Ryan Braun, and Corey Dickerson. Tonight at Cincy, he draws Tim Adleman and his 4.99 ERA. While Pollock may be better against lefties, this discount and matchup are just too good to pass up.

Peralta often finds his way into my lineups when he goes against a righty. He is batting .324 against them again this season with an .846 OPS. Players like that don’t just sit at $3,000 on FanDuel so I can’t figure out why Peralta is stil, there.

Mini Rangers Stack

Joey Gallo (1B): $2,400
Elvis Andrus (SS): $3,000

Kevin Gausman has been abysmal all season and especially of late. On any given night, Gallo is among the favorites to knock two bombs and tonight is no different considering the matchup. Gallo has been cold lately, but first base is a wasteland tonight so it makes sense to save some money here. Meanwhile, Elvis Andrus is strolling along as one of the best 20 fantasy hitters this season, but his price is still unbelievably low.
