FanDuel PGA Lineup Advice: British Open

FanDuel PGA Lineup Advice: British Open

This week, the PGA Tour brings us the Open Championship, the third of four Major Championships during the PGA season. I’ve put together a sample daily fantasy golf team from FanDuel for you here. The hope is that this will give you the guidance you need to put together a killer roster of your own. Remember that you need to know exactly what you’re looking for out of each golfer regardless of where you draft your team. Because this is a Major, you’re likely going to see a lot of people playing fantasy golf this week that normally don’t, and that will give those that understand concepts like value an edge. This is going to be a competitive field, so you’ll need to bring your best roster if you want to have a chance of dominating your league. Take a look to see the roster that I recommend you work from.

Before you draft a team at FanDuel, you need to know how their scoring is different from other DFS sites. Now that FanDuel has updated their scoring system, you can see that they really value golfers that make the cut. For your benefit, I’ve put together a roster, breaking down some of the key elements below. It places a large emphasis on making the cut and each golfer’s likelihood of doing so. The dollar amount included is the golfer’s salary on FanDuel only, so if you are drafting a team on another site, this lineup will not be very helpful to you. Hopefully, this will help you draft a stronger team than your competition.

Reasoning

Rickie Fowler seems like a strong choice here. He’s one of the favorites to win the whole tournament but is much cheaper than a lot of other favorites, such as Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson, and Rory McIlroy. His stats show that he should actually be much more expensive here, which makes him a huge value pick. He has made 11 out of his last 14 cuts, and of his last five tournaments, he’s made the top 10 four times. One of those four was the U.S. Open. Fowler is undervalued and makes a strong No. 1 pick if you want to have strength throughout your roster.

Koepka won the U.S. Open and had been playing well overall. He has made 12 of 16 cuts this season. Although his fantasy average per tournament is a little lower than some of the other top names entered at 69.1, he has momentum on his side. He’s cheaper than almost every other Tier 1 golfer here and makes for a strong play.

Mickelson is another value pick to add to the top of your roster. He’s the kind of golfer that wouldn’t enter this tournament unless he thought he had a legitimate chance of contending, and his numbers this season show that. He’s made 15 of 15 cuts, and although he only has two top 10 finishes this year, he is going to be competitive in this field. At the very least, he’s almost guaranteed to make the cut, which alone is a good reason to draft him at FanDuel.

Kevin Kisner was my No. 1 choice last weekend, and although he wasn’t the winner, he didn’t disappoint with 81 fantasy points contributed. He’s a top 10 contender in this field and is priced below average. Again, he’s a posterchild for a big value play. His stats show he could do really well here. He’s made 16 out of 19 cuts this season and is averaging 71.5 fantasy points per tournament. Yes, this competition is a lot tougher than what he’s used to facing, but he’s playing well enough that this doesn’t seem like a big issue.
