FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/18)

FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Friday (8/18)

With the Cubs playing in the afternoon, we have 28 teams to work with, but there will almost certainly be two or three games postponed tonight, so the slate is actually smaller than it seems. We also have a number of great pitchers on the mound to choose from, but hardly any value, so we will either have to go with a terrible lineup or a lousy pitcher. Let’s take a look at where I landed.

MIA @ NYM – 95% chance of delay, 70% cancellation
NYY @ BOS – 85% chance of delay, 65% cancellation
LAA @ BAL – 100% chance of delay, 20% cancellation
CLE @ KCR – 30% chance of delay
ARI @ MIN – 20% chance of delay

Pitcher

Austin Pruitt (TBR): $6,100 vs SEA

With Max Scherzer, Corey Kluber, Rich Hill, Dallas Keuchel and Carlos Martinez on the hill, you’d think one of them would be the choice, but there are just too many gimmes in the lineup who are expensive. Sure, Scherzer or Kluber might go nuts for 65 points, but with ownership spread out between, it won’t kill you if you miss out on the one that dominates. Pruitt isn’t going to strike out more than five or 6 hitters, but he does have three straight quality starts and is pitching at home in a pitcher’s park. We’ve got a decent shot at a win too and all we need to hit value is 30 points (or 6 IP, 3 ER, 4 Ks and a win).

Rangers Stack

Joey Gallo (TEX) : $4,000
Rougned Odor (TEX): $3,200
Elvis Andrus (SS): $3,900
Shin-Soo Choo (OF): $3,000

With the Texas heat lately, the Rangers’ ballpark has been performing similarly to Coors. It is over 90 degrees again tonight and James Shields is opposing them so Vegas has the Rangers at 6.73 implied runs, which is the same exact total as the Rockies against Matt Garza. I’ll load up my lineup with four of their best hitters and build around these incredible values.

Mini Rockies Stack

Nolan Arenado (3B) : $4,600
Charlie Blackmon (OF) : $4,900

These are bar none the two best options on the slate. They are extremely expensive, but one of them, perhaps both, will go for 30+ tonight against Matt Garza. That alone should make up the difference between Pruitt and Kluber. As I mentioned above, Colorado is at 6.73 implied runs tonight. That is a total we will only see a dozen times over a full season! Arenado is currently listed as day-to-day with a hand injury, but he has been playing and hitting quite well so shrug that off and get him in your lineup.

Mini Rays Stack

Wilson Ramos (C) : $2,300
Corey Dickerson (OF) : $3,000

Unfortunately, we couldn’t load up our lineup with two more Rockies hitters and get the full double-stack going, but this should do the trick anyway. Ramos, if you don’t remember, was one of the top three offensive catchers in baseball last season, but is dirt cheap even though he is smokin’ hot over the last week. Dickerson, meanwhile, has been one of the better hitters in baseball, but his price is still depressed for whatever reason. If that weren’t enough, Erasmo Ramirez and his 4.73 ERA are opposing them. He hasn’t on a game since mid-June!
