FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (8/22)

FanDuel MLB Lineup Advice: Tuesday (8/22)

With the Cubs playing in the afternoon, we have 28 teams to work with, but there will almost certainly be two or three games postponed tonight, so the slate is actually smaller than it seems. We also have a number of great pitchers on the mound to choose from, but hardly any value, so we will either have to go with a terrible lineup or a lousy pitcher. Let’s take a look at where I landed.

LAD @ PIT – 90% chance at delay, 30% cancellation
CHC @ CIN – 75% chance at delay, 10% cancellation
BOS @ CLE – 65% chance at delay, 10% cancellation

Pitcher

Ubaldo Jimenez (BAL): $6,900 vs OAK

Ubaldo isn’t exactly the safest play with pitchers like Chris Archer, Carlos Carrasco and Lance Lynn throwing tonight, but you can’t quite expect safe at this price level. What we do have is a bottom 8 scoring offense that is top three in strikeouts. Jimenez may have a 6.47 ERA on the season, but he has allowed 3 or fewer ER in 4 of his previous 5 starts with 6, 6, 9 and 11 Ks in those 4 outings.

Yankees Mashers

Gary Sanchez (C): $3,500
Aaron Judge (OF): $3,800

The wind is howling out to left field at 14 MPH with the worst pitcher on the slate opposite the Yankees. While Detroit is a minor downgrade from Yankee Stadium, there may not be a better night of the year to see one or both of the sluggers go deep. Even better, Judge’s price has come down $1,300 since his slump began.

D-Backs Mashers

Paul Goldschmidt (1B): $4,100
JD Martinez (OF): $3,900

When the Diamondbacks don’t play at home, the ownership on these two stars plummets, but that shouldn’t be the case tonight, as everything else works in their favor in a big way. Tommy Milone is one of the worst pitchers on the slate, the wind is blowing out to left field at 17 MPH and both Goldschmidt and J.D. obliterate lefties. Both carry an OPS over 1.000 against the split this season and have historically been every bit as good.

Orioles Mashers

Jonathan Schoop (2B): $3,500
Manny Machado (3B): $4,000

I feel like I’m repeating myself in each section, but again, we have the wind blowing out fiercely in this game, this time to center field. Paul Blackburn is the worst pitcher on the slate, as evidenced but the 6.20 Vegas implied run total for the Orioles. Machado has been the hottest hitter in baseball over the second half, and Schoop the #2 second basemen behind Altuve. If you can afford it, rostering Tim Beckham, Adam Jones, Trey Mancini and/or Chris Davis makes plenty of sense as well.

Braves Lefty Mashers

Dansby Swanson (SS): $2,600
Matt Kemp (OF): $2,700

Swanson may have killed you ten times already this season, but now that he is back up in the bigs he is rolling. He has walked 6 times in the past 5 games with multiple hits in two of the last three. He isn’t the biggest home run threat, but he is substantially better against lefties, and if you haven’t noticed, Marco Gonzalez has an 8.44 ERA thus far. Kemp, like Swanson, is substantially better against lefties throughout his career and we get him for a great price because he has struggled a bit this year versus the split.
