FanDuel MLB Value Plays: Monday (8/14)

Welcome to the Monday edition of the FanDuel MLB value plays. Tonight we have a decent sized, 11-game slate. As always, be sure to check out the weather and the team lineups throughout the day. Let’s go ahead and take a look at my favorite value options for today.

Pitcher

Jerad Eickhoff (PHI): $7,400 at SD
The pitching landscape tonight is not too great, so Eickhoff is definitely a viable GPP option if you believe his ownership percentage will not be too high. Eickhoff has not been great this year, but he has been pitching much better lately with three quality starts in his last four. Tonight he has an outstanding matchup against the Padres, who rank 24th in wRC+ and third in K% against right-handed pitchers this season.

Catcher

Alex Avila (CHC): $2,500 vs. CIN
With Willson Contreras expected to miss four to six weeks with a hamstring injury, so Avila will be receiving the majority of the starts while he is out. Avila has been having a great season this year with a 0.394 wOBA and a 0.240 ISO against opposing right-handed pitchers.

First Base

Logan Morrison (TBR): $2,800 at TOR
Morrison has cooled off from his excellent first half, but he still has solid numbers against right-handed pitchers with a 0.368 wOBA and a 0.281 ISO. Morrison and the Rays have a nice positive park shift from Tropicana Field to the Rogers Centre. Also, they have a great matchup against Nick Tepesch, who is not a good pitcher.

Second Base

Ian Happ (CHC) : $2,900 vs. CHC
Happ is starting to do better from the right side of the plate, but has better numbers from the left side with a 0.347 wOBA and a 0.273 ISO against opposing right-handed pitchers. Asher Wojciechowski is not the worst pitcher on this slate, but I do think he will struggle tonight against the Cubs with the wind blowing out at Wrigley.

Third Base

Maikel Franco (PHI) : $2,800 at SD
Franco’s power numbers are down a little bit this season, but he still has an excellent 0.219 ISO against opposing left-handed pitchers this year. I think he will fly under the radar a little bit in GPP contests since he plays for the Phillies, but I think he is in a great spot to do some damage against Travis Wood and the Padres’ bullpen tonight.

Shortstop

Jose Reyes (NYM) : $2,100 at NYY
I don’t think it’s necessary to completely punt at any position tonight since there are not any really expensive pitchers. However, if you really want to saturate your lineup with a ton of top dollar bats, you could punt at shortstop with Jose Reyes. The Mets traded Neil Walker to the Brewers yesterday, so the Reyes will likely be the everyday second basemen for the Mets for the rest of the season. His numbers this season will not jump off of the paper at you, but he does have a solid matchup tonight against Luis Cessa, who has really struggled with his control this season.

Outfielders

Curtis Granderson (NYM) : $2,600 at NYY
One other cheap, Mets’ bat who we can consider tonight is Granderson. He really benefitted from the short porch at Yankee Stadium when he was a member of the Yankees a few years ago and he very well could hit a home run off of Cessa tonight when the Mets visit Yankee Stadium. I don’t recommend using many Mets’ hitters in your cash game lineup though since the Yankees have one of the best bullpens in the league.

Corey Dickerson (TBR): $3,000 at TOR
Another Rays’ hitter who we can consider tonight is Dickerson. Similar to Morrison, Dickerson has not been as good as he was in the first half of the season. However, he still has a 0.347 wOBA and a 0.230 ISO against right-handed pitchers.

Ender Inciarte (ATL) : $3,200 at COL
I normally like to stay below $3,000 when recommending value bats, but I just cannot ignore someone who is hitting leadoff at Coors Field and who is slightly above $3,000. Inciarte has not been outstanding by any means this season, but he still has an okay 0.318 wOBA against right-handed pitchers this season.
