Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 2

Quarterback and Tight End Streamers: Week 2

One of my few keys to success in fantasy football is in-season management. A successful draft is just part of the equation to solving the elusive riddle of winning a fantasy championship. It takes strong weekly team management and waiver wire pickups to complete the puzzle. Don’t underestimate the power of streaming positions of weakness and turning them into strengths by finding and playing the favorable matchups. Streaming has become a very effective strategy and one of my favorite forms of in-season management to help me reach the pinnacle of fantasy football. I am very excited to share with you my top weekly streaming options at the QB and TE position. To qualify for this list the selected players must be owned in fewer than 30 percent of Yahoo fantasy leagues.

Before we get into Week 2’s top streaming options, let’s quickly recap last week’s selections:

Quarterback: Sam Bradford (25.5 FPs), Jay Cutler (Game Postponed), Jared Goff (16.4 FPs)

Tight End: Charles Clay (15.3 FPs), Zach Miller (7.9 FPs)

Quarterback Streaming Options

QB Stream of the Week: Jay Cutler (MIA) vs. Los Angeles Chargers (28% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Your weekly steaming options could be limited depending on your league and bench size. However, take this opportunity to pick up a gunslinger capable of big-time points on any given Sunday. Cutler can be erratic with the football at times, but he usually makes up for that with lots of yards and a good number of touchdowns. With the likes of DeVante Parker, Jarvis Landry, Kenny Stills, and Julius Thomas at his disposal, Cutler has the weapons to put up QB1 numbers in Week 2 and for the rest of the season. This matchup against the Chargers has the potential to be a high scoring, back and forth affair, which bodes well Cutler’s fantasy owners. Furthermore, the Chargers defense surrendered 23 fantasy points to Trevor Siemian on Monday Night Football.

Alex Smith (KC) vs. Philadelphia (23% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Wow. That is simply the best way to describe Smith’s Week 1 performance against the New England Patriots. The Kansas City signal caller showed rare aggressiveness in his passing approach en route to an NFL best 31 point fantasy performance. However, don’t expect the same type of production heading into Week 2 when the Chiefs play host to the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles held Kirk Cousins to just 10.6 fantasy points while also adding a pick-six in the process. Even though the Eagles present a difficult matchup for Smith, I am still intrigued to give him the start if you are in a bit of a bind at the QB position. Tyreek Hill and Kareem Hunt are capable of taking it to the house on any play, which gives Smith a nice floor and decent upside on a week-to-week basis.

Jared Goff (LAR) vs. Washington (6% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Goff was one of my streaming options in last week’s article and he did not disappoint, racking up similar numbers to Aaron Rodgers with 16.4 fantasy points to his name. It might not be quite as easy as Indianapolis, but Goff has another favorable matchup in Week 2 versus Washington. The Redskins defense struggled against Carson Wentz allowing over 300 passing yards and 18.9 fantasy points in the process (third worst). I’m banking on another solid performance from the second-year quarterback as head coach Sean McVay continues to work his magic with the Los Angeles offense.

Tight End Streaming Options

TE Stream of the Week: Charles Clay (BUF) vs. Carolina (10% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
Clay makes my “TE Stream of the Week” in back-to-back segments. He is a name you are going to want to remember, or better yet just pick up and keep on your roster. His touchdown from this past weekend marked his fifth in as many games dating back to last year. For some reason, not many people are picking up on his success, but that is going to change quickly. Clay’s chemistry with quarterback Tyrod Taylor is becoming more and more evident as he continues to make a significant impact in the Buffalo passing game. The 28-year-old led the way in targets at the tight end position, alongside Jason Witten and Delanie Walker with nine in Week 1. With just Jordan Matthews and Zay Jones as the only real threats to his target share, look for more of the same from Clay in Week 2 despite the tougher matchup.

Evan Engram (NYG) vs. Detroit (24% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
With Odell Beckham on the shelf for Week 1, Engram stepped up with four receptions for 44 yards. Not exactly big numbers but a solid 8.8 points in PPR, especially when you consider how much the New York offense struggled throughout the game. The thing that stood out most to me about the rookie though was his speed and quickness. He looked like a natural receiver in his first NFL game. Engram could be poised for another decent outing in Week 2 with Odell Beckham possibly back in the lineup and stealing most of the defense’s attention, which would open up the middle of the field for Engram and Co. If Beckham is out again, the product of Mississippi could also see an increase in targets with Brandon Marshall and Eli Manning clearly not on the same page yet.

Zach Miller (CHI) vs. Tampa Bay (5% owned in Yahoo Leagues)
The Chicago passing game is nothing to get excited about, but the recent injury to Kevin White leaves them with minimal receiving targets. Miller actually led the way in terms of receptions, targets, and receiving yards for the Bears in Week 1 if you exclude their running back position. He is a pure volume play against the Bucs in Week 2, which isn’t a bad thing in PPR formats. Look for the Bucs to get ahead early and create the perfect game script for Miller to rack up some garbage time points in the second half of this matchup.
