Sunday Stash Report: Week 3 (Fantasy Football)

The Sunday Stash Report continues ahead of Week 3 as fantasy owners have now had two weeks of action to see how many of their late-round fliers never made it off the ground as well as a week of failed waiver pickups (looking at you Kerwynn Williams). The goal here is to put a guy or two on the back of your roster that isn’t necessarily going to help you this week but rather next week or shortly thereafter.

Jay Cutler (QB – MIA)
Three things are certain in life: death, taxes, and QBs facing the Saints. The Dolphins have a home game against the hapless Saints defense that looks poised to set more records in futility in 2017. That game comes in Week 4. Cutler is owned less than a third of leagues and makes for a fantastic streaming option. If you have QB trouble and a free roster spot, get ahead of the curve and stash him a week in advance.

Tyler Lockett (WR – SEA)
Tyler Lockett was the darling of last year’s drafts, lauded by many, myself included, as an ascending superstar. He was hampered by a PCL injury early in the season and actually started to turn it on once he got healthy before being dealt a crushing blow in the form of a broken leg. Lockett is healthy now, and while the Seahawks offense is sputtering, to put it mildly, we’ve seen the upside and we know the talent is there. Lockett may be worth the last spot on your roster for a week or two to see what happens if Seattle can turn things around.

Orleans Darkwa (RB – NYG)
Full disclosure – I probably should have put him on this list last week. Paul Perkins is the worst starting RB in the NFL…or at least he was. I think this is finally the week Ben McAdoo wakes up and realizes that Perkins does not even belong in the NFL, let alone on an active roster and in the starting lineup. Reports have already surfaced that Darkwa may start to steal carries from Perkins. Darkwa is not a particularly special talent, but he’s decent enough and, at the very least, has a place in the NFL, which is more than I can say about Perkins. Take a moment to revel in Paul Perkins and how truly awful he is at football because once the Giants backfield fully becomes a Darkwa-Shane Vereen split, it is doubtful we ever see Perkins again. The Giants still have a terrible offensive line, but Darkwa can be a bye week flex on 12-15 carries. If a player is a starting RB in the NFL, he deserves to be owned…unless he’s Paul Perkins. Go pick up Darkwa if you still can.

Alvin Kamara (RB – NO)
I couldn’t help but notice that Alvin Kamara was dropped in a bunch of leagues after his touch count dropped precipitously in Week 2. Make no mistake, Kamara is part of the future of this backfield. Adrian Peterson is done. He has no business being in the NFL anymore. I love AP. He’s an all-time great. But it’s over for him. I have to believe it’s only a matter of time before the Saints accept that reality and deactivate/cut him. In a 60-40 split between Mark Ingram and Kamara, the rookie will be useful. The Saints are still a high-powered offense and their satellite back has historically had value for as long as Drew Brees has been around. If someone in your league dropped Kamara, go stash him.

D’Onta Foreman (RB – HOU)
Somehow he’s barely owned across fantasy leagues. He’s the most talented RB on the Texans and is already pushing Lamar Miller for playing time. It’s only a matter of time before this is a complete timeshare and after that the balance may lean toward Foreman. Bank on Foreman’s talent and Miller’s lack of it.

Alex Erickson (WR – CIN)
This is a really deep flier, but he could be the Bengals version of Julian Edelman. Tyler Boyd has been a healthy scratch and John Ross has either been hurt or benched for fumbling. Brandon LaFell just isn’t that good. Eventually, this offense is going to actually move the ball. AJ Green won’t get every target and Tyler Eifert can’t be targeted when he’s not playing. Erickson is worth a shot in deeper leagues.
