2nd Half Bold Predictions (From the Top Experts)

2nd Half Bold Predictions (From the Top Experts)

All you have to do is take a look at the fantasy leaders this season to see that there has been some unexpected wackiness. If I told you before the start of the season that Alex Smith and Carson Wentz would be the leading all players in fantasy points after seven weeks, and that Kareem Hunt and Deshaun Watson would be right in the mix too, I’m sure I’d be reading comments about how I’m an idiot.

The fact is, this is happening. Football, like any professional sport, is unpredictatble, but it doesn’t mean that we’re completely in dark. We’ve reached out to the most accurate experts this fantasy season to get their thoughts on what is possible the rest of the way. Take a look at their bold predictions.

Josh Doctson will achieve WR2 fantasy status (top 24 WR over the second half). Quotes out of Washington have suggested that Doctson was drafted with the intention of making him their top dog, and with both Pryor and Crowder disappearing for most of the season the role is there for the taking. Doctson was 2nd in WR snaps only to Crowder last week, and going forward I expect Doctson’s talent will help him solidify his role as the top WR for the Redskins.”
– KJ (Fantasy Team Advice)

Josh Doctson will be the Redskins best wideout and a top 25 receiver in fantasy. Talent has never been a question with Doctson (ranked atop the 2016 rookie receivers in my draft breakdown), it’s just been health. Finally 100 percent and staying on the field, Doctson has been pushing the door open for his opportunity, and Jamison Crowder’s decline and Terrelle Pryor’s poor fit are pulling the door open from the other side. Doctson has the talent to take full advantage of the Redskins pass-happy offense, and it will be on full display during the second half.”
– Jake Ciely (RotoExperts)

Hunter Henry finishes as a top-3 TE. He’s caught fire of late, essentially rendering Antonio Gates useless. (The future Hall of Famer has just 22 targets in 7 games.) The Chargers also rank top-8 in pass rate and boast a favorable schedule for TEs.”
– Kevin English (Draft Sharks)

Hunter Henry will be a top-four fantasy TE the rest of the season. Frustrating fantasy owners with goose eggs in two of the first three games of the season, Henry has finished with a touchdown or 70+ yards in each of his past four games. Not only does he have a favorable matchup in Week 8 against the Patriots, but Henry has a top-two fantasy SOS from Weeks 8 to 16. Despite his slow start, he’ll reward patient fantasy owners with a strong second half.”
– Kevin Hanson (EDSFootball)

“I’m going to go with a breakout second half from Joe Mixon. The touches, opportunity, and talent is there. The big play hasn’t been, but it’s coming. He could be worth grabbing right now ahead of the Indy, Jax, and Ten matchups. A couple of big plays will secure his total touches, and there’s a chance he could be a league winner.”
– Andy Holloway (The Fantasy Footballers)

Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara will finish 2017 as top-10 backs in point-per-reception scoring. For the first time since the 2009 season — when they won the Super Bowl with a three-headed backfield — the Saints are in the top half of the league in rushing rate (42.5 percent). Both backs are involved in the passing game (Ingram, 5.3 targets per game; Kamara, 6.3), Ingram is pacing for his typical season of 1,200 yards and eight touchdowns, and Kamara is averaging 14.7 opportunities per game ever since Adrian Peterson was rendered irrelevant in London. With a better defense and reduced need for Drew Brees to throw, the Saints will emphasize the running game in the second half of the season, giving Ingram and Kamara high-end utility.”
– Matthew Freedman (FantasyLabs)

Derrick Henry will finish the season ahead of DeMarco Murray in standard fantasy points. Murray and Henry are already close to an even split in carries on the season (86-75 in favor of Murray). It’s easy to envision a scenario in which the Titans use Murray more in a pass-catching role and Henry as more of the *running* back, especially considering Murray’s age, injury history, previous workloads, etc. Furthermore, it makes more sense to use Henry as the goal-line back since he’s 30 pounds heavier than Murray. The icing on the cake is that the Titans have one of the best remaining schedules for the running back position. Once more carries and “vultured” touchdowns start piling up, Henry will begin to close in on Murray as far as fantasy points are concerned.”
– Zach Greubel (Gridiron Experts)

“Before the season I said that Marlon Mack would be a thing this season and I am sticking to it. The Luckless Colts are fading fast and Frank Gore is not the answer for them at RB. Mack when given the opportunity has shown his explosiveness and vision. Mack will be a top 15 RB from week 9 thru 16.”
– Ken Zalis (Pressbox)

Corey Davis, who is somehow still available in more than 70 percent of leagues, will return from a hamstring injury to become a top-15 fantasy receiver over the second half of the season. The fifth overall pick has been sidelined since a six-catch, 69-yard debut in which he led the team with 10 targets. That game showcased the rookie’s elite size-skill combination, and proved he can step into the No. 1 receiver role immediately. Coming off the bye, Davis is expected to be fully healthy and ready to make “a big difference,” according to Mike Mularkey.”
– Justin Boone (theScore)

“After a Week 5 ankle injury caused him to miss his last two games, Sterling Shepard appears to be on track to suit up at home against the Rams following the Giants Week 8 bye. During his absence, Eli Manning has relied heavily on rookie tight end Evan Engram to inject life into the Giants receiving corps after wide receivers Roger Lewis, Tavarres King, and Travis Rudolph have combined for just seven receptions for 67 yards and zero touchdowns over those two weeks. In his five active games this season, Shepard has amassed 22 receptions on 29 targets for 263 yards and one touchdown, good for an average of 6.7 standard fantasy points per week. In anticipation of the Giants leaning much more on Shepard in an attempt to give their franchise a fighting chance at the playoffs, I expect Shepard to average closer to eight or nine points per game from here on out and finish the second half of this season as a WR2.”
– Robert Waziak (Pyromaniac)

“PPR Fantasy Championships will be won on the back of Danny Woodhead. While it’s never safe to bet on a bad hammy, Woodhead is eligible to return in week 11. The Ravens offense has been putrid and sets up nicely for Woodhead’s return. In his limited action this season, Woodhead ranks 5th in points per opportunity which is right on par with what we have seen from him in the past. If you have an extra spot on your roster, Woodhead is well worth the stash.”
