9 Players to Trade Now (Fantasy Football)

9 Players to Trade Now (Fantasy Football)

Sometimes as the season goes along, certain players can often have stats that don’t match what’s fully happening on the field. Keep in mind, these are NFL players. Everyone is capable of a monster game and on the flip side, it’s entirely possible for things to turn around when it comes to some studs that have struggled to start the season.

So while you’re sitting there thinking about whether you should try and get Amari Cooper, let our featured experts below tell you why you should be buying him as well as why you should be trying to make a move on the other names listed.

Q1. Who are you trying to sell right now before it’s too late and what kind of player(s) are you looking to get in return?

DeMarco Murray (RB – TEN)
“It may already be too late, but DeMarco Murray has been my high-priority sell list over the last few weeks. It’s the perfect storm for the end of a career, really. He’s 29 years old, has suffered multiple soft-tissue injuries over the last few seasons, and has a young talented running back nipping at his heels. Some just watch box scores and see that Murray scored in Week 6, but understand that he can lose this job even without injuries. Derrick Henry is simply the better running back at this point in time and the Titans are starting to come around to that idea as well. You don’t want to simply give him away, but I’d look to buy-low on a few players in return. Maybe snag Amari Cooper and Martavis Bryant (or something like that) for him.”
– Mike Tagliere (FantasyPros)

“Sell DeMarco Murray while you can. In four of six games this year, Derrick Henry has either out-carried or finished within one tote of Murray. At the end of 2017, Tennessee will have a very easy decision to make. Pay $0 to cut DeMarco loose, or keep the behemoth contract at $6.5 million for each of the next two years. In 2012, Panthers GM Marty Hurney signed the ink on a combined $80 million backfield (DeAngelo Williams, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert). Since the league learned his lesson, only one offseason has seen the number one free agent running back fetch more than $4 million per season. The writing is on the wall. If one of these guys leaves, it won’t be the former Heisman trophy winner who the Titans snagged at 45th overall. Down the stretch, expect Tennessee to see more and more of what they have in Henry, as they empty Murray’s tank before release.”

Larry Fitzgerald (WR – ARI)
“I’d be trying to sell Larry Fitzgerald, who’s coming off a huge performance and has scored in three of his past four games. Still, he’s 34 years old and has faded over the second half of the season in recent years. Moreover, John Brown is finally getting healthy, and the addition of Adrian Peterson should lead to fewer pass attempts from Arizona (the Cardinals’ schedule moving forward is highly favorable against the run). Fitzgerald is a prime sell-high candidate right now.”
– Dalton Del Don (Yahoo! Sports)

Marshawn Lynch (RB – OAK)
“I’m selling Lynch right now anywhere I can. The fantasy community values him as a low-end No. 2 running back the rest of season right now, which is entirely fair based on the uncertainty surrounding the position. But I’m not convinced that he’s the best running back on his own team, and if the Raiders continue to fall out of the playoff race, they’d likely give Jalen Richard additional carries to see what they have for the future. Given his general value in the market, I’d be more than happy to swap him for other running backs near him in ECR, such as Christian McCaffrey, Tevin Coleman, or Derrick Henry, or underperforming or injured wide receivers such as DeVante Parker or Golden Tate.”
– Dan Harris (FantasyPros)

Javorius Allen (RB – BAL)
“Allen is going to turn into a pumpkin before too long. Alex Collins is out-running him between the tackles, and Danny Woodhead should be back around Week 11. Woodhead should take over the pass-catching role in the Baltimore offense, which would put Allen back on the sideline.”
– John Paulsen (4for4.com)

Kareem Hunt (RB – KC)
“Believe it or not, I’m selling Kareem Hunt. Congratulations if you hit the jackpot on drafting him. You can now turn him into a Michael Thomas AND Joe Mixon or Jordan Howard AND Brandin Cooks despite the fact that he is coming into a difficult stretch on the schedule. His yards per carry and touchdown rate are both due to come crashing back down to earth, which will make him a borderline top 10 rest of season player. So why not trade a guy being valued as a top 2 fantasy asset?”
– Bobby Sylvester (FantasyPros)

Q2. What underperforming player are you trying to buy right now and who would you be willing to give up to get him?

Amari Cooper (WR – OAK)
“The answer for me is still Amari Cooper, as it has been for weeks. Cooper has been absolutely awful, but a third-year wide receiver does not simply forget how to play football. There’s been no word of an injury and so I’m forced to think that this is just the equivalent of a lengthy and nearly inexplicable slump for a baseball player, out of which Cooper will eventually break. Cooper owners seem to be nearly at their breaking point, so I’d be shooting to acquire him by selling high on other wide receivers such as Nelson Agholor or Cooper Kupp, or on decent but unspectacular running backs like Tevin Coleman or LeGarrette Blount. But I’d be willing to swap a Devin Funchess/John Brown or Alvin Kamara type of player if need be.”
– Dan Harris (FantasyPros)

“While I thought his second round ADP was too high, I’m looking to trade for Amari Cooper wherever possible. He’s obviously struggling, but had a (very) mini breakout in Week 6 with five catches for 28 yards, and had another 31-yard grab called back due to holding. His strength of schedule has been pretty tough thus far, but has a good schedule down the stretch, including Dallas and Philadelphia in Week 15 and Week 16. He and his quarterback are too good for the current level of production.”
– John Paulsen (4for4.com)

“This may seem like a no-brainer for those who listen to our podcast on a regular basis, but it’s Amari Cooper. Some fantasy owners have been able to acquire him for names like Duke Johnson, Marvin Jones, Cameron Brate, etc. Some will say that Cooper is nothing, but they probably aren’t aware that he’s one of just seven wide receivers all-time to accumulate at least 1,000 yards in his first two seasons in the NFL. The issues that Cooper has right now (mental) can be corrected and may just be spotlighted on national television this week when the Raiders host the Chiefs. I’d be willing to trade players like Davante Adams, Marshawn Lynch, or Tevin Coleman in order to acquire him, though you likely don’t need to pay that much right now.”
– Mike Tagliere (FantasyPros)

Joe Mixon (RB – CIN)
“I’d be trying to buy Joe Mixon, as his season-long stats still look incredibly underwhelming, and he’s under the radar coming off a bye. The rookie’s snaps (and usage in the red zone) have climbed dramatically since Bill Lazor took over as the Bengals’ offensive coordinator, and Mixon remains an extremely intriguing prospect. And you better try to trade for him fast, as he gets a Steelers defense this week that’s been gashed by the run this season, so the buying window is going to close soon.”
– Dalton Del Don (Yahoo! Sports)

Alshon Jeffery (WR – PHI)
“If I can get my hands on Alshon Jeffery at this point in the season, I’ll be a happy man. He hasn’t performed all that well to the naked eye with just 317 yards and 2 touchdowns, but when you consider that he has been shadowed near 60% of the time by Josh Norman, Marcus Peters, Janoris Jenkins, Casey Heyward, Patrick Peterson and James Bradbury, you’ve got to give him some serious credit. Even still, he has 8.0 targets per game, which is more than T.Y. Hilton, Brandin Cooks, Doug Baldwin and Julio Jones. Now that the tide is receding on the Eagles schedule, he is about to explode.”
– Bobby Sylvester (FantasyPros)

Kirk Cousins (QB – WAS)
“Cousins and the Washington receivers are among the best buy-low players in the league right now. In 2016, the Redskins passer threw for 4,917 yards, 25 touchdowns, and 12 picks. He is currently on pace for 28.8 scores and 6.4 interceptions. Over the last three weeks, Cousins has completed 70.3-percent of his throws for 305.0 yards, 2.3 touchdowns and 0.3 turnovers per game. Terrelle Pryor, Jamison Crowder, and Jordan Reed have yet to erupt. Grab anyone from this pass offense at bargain basement pricing.”
