DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (10/19)

DraftKings NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (10/19)

Tonight’s NHL slate brings us nine juicy matchups which should include a lot of scoring from several games. The ownership should be spread out quite a bit tonight since there are a lot of ways to go with plenty of great stack options. Before lineup lock, be sure to take a look at specific team line combinations. Struggling clubs are looking to shake things up early in the season.

Center

Connor McDavid (EDM): $7,800 @ CHI
This isn’t much of a hot take at all, but Connor McDavid is the best player in the NHL and should not be priced at $7,800. Sure the Oilers look dreadful right now, losing their last four games, but McDavid has still produced. The Blackhawks are coming off an embarrassing performance last night and will look to their back up net minder, Anton Forsberg. Great news for McDavid and company as they are hungry for their second win.

Nick Foligno (CLS): $5,200 vs. TB
Lightning vs Blue Jackets will be a popular spot where people gravitate to. The opening Vegas game total of five and half screams over on this one. To get a piece of this game, the Blue Jackets second line really stands out. In Columbus, John Tortorella will certainly line match the Wennberg line against the scorching hot Stamkos line. What gets interesting is Nick Foligno, Calvert, and Bjorkstrand will be matched up against Tampa Bay’s second line of Point, Palat, and Gourde. These three have allowed 55 shots against while generating 41. On the other side, the Foligno line have accumulated 45 shots and allowing just 38 against. This positive shot correlation has lead to seven goals on the year for the Foligno line. Stacking this line will give you great exposure in a shootout game at a much lower ownership.

Other Centers to Consider:

Cash – Tyler Seguin ($7,900 @ ARI), Steven Stamkos ($7,600 @CLS), John Tavares ($6,700 @ NYR)
GPP – Nico Hischier ($4,300 @ OTT), Jason Spezza ($4,100 @ ARI)

Wing

Jamie Benn (DAL): $7,300 @ ARI
It seems like an obvious play to stack Benn with Seguin and Klingberg. So why not? Too many times in DFS, we try to get too cute or too contrarian. When we have one of the best offenses going up against the worst team in the NHL, just play the best players. Arizona is averaging over four goals against a game. Dallas will break out in a big way soon and we don’t want to miss it.

Taylor Hall (NJ): $5,600 @ OTT
As one of the more fun players in the NHL to watch, Taylor Hall has gone completely under the radar since being traded to the small market team in New Jersey. Hall has elite speed and generates offense constantly on the ice. At just $5,600, Hall is a pretty safe play with major upside. He shoots the puck a lot and will be skating on the top line with star rookie Nico Hischier (also a good play). This is no longer a Devils team who likes to trap and play defensively. Look for a lot of offense this season and specifically tonight.

Kailer Yamamoto (EDM): $4,700 @ CHI
At just five foot eight inches and 155 lbs soaking wet, Yamamoto has looked fantastic in the last two games for the Edmonton Oilers. Leon Draisaitl is on the IR with an eye injury which has given the youngster a chance to play with McDavid. If we think McDavid is going to have a huge game, naturally his line mates will as well. Yamamoto won’t be playing on the same power play line as Connor, but he will slot in on the second unit playing the point which should provide him with opportunity for multiple assists. The Oilers can only keep Yamamoto in the NHL for 9 games before deciding whether or not they want to send him back to the minors. They will want to put this kid in a lot of situations to see what he is capable of.

Other Wingers to consider:

Cash – Nikita Kucherov ($7,500 @ CLS), Alexander Radulov ($6,200 @ ARI), Craig Smith ($3,800 @ PHI)
GPP – Jaden Schwartz ($6,000 @ COL), Jeff Skinner ($5,500 @ CGY), Matt Calvert ($3,600 vs TB)

Defense

Zachary Werenski (CLS): $5,600 vs. TB
Werenski had a great rookie campaign and is following it up quite nicely to start this year. In his first six games played, he has tallied five points. The up and coming star defenseman is worth a shot tonight while pairing him with Foligno.

Colton Parayko (STL): $4,400 @ COL
Averaging over 20 minutes a game this year, Parayko finds himself locked in on the second defensive pairing with power play time. The big body defenseman has shown a great deal of composure in his game which has led to more and more opportunities. While he won’t score a lot of goals, Parayko will block a lot of shots and contribute by getting the puck on net.

Goalie

Ben Bishop (DAL): $8,400 @ ARI
Bishop just faced this same Arizona squad two days ago and posted over seven fantasy points. There are not a lot of scenarios where we can see the Coyotes pull off a win in this one. At the goalie position, it is easy to veer off of a play you like in order to save salary. The win is so crucial in DraftKings scoring where overall point totals are quite low in general. Eat the chalk, play Bishop and find value elsewhere in cash.

Cory Schneider (NJ): $7,500 @ OTT
If you want to get a little weird at goalie in a GPP, this is a great pivot. Ottawa is favored in this game by way too much which should keep ownership low. The Devils are 5-1-0 to start the season and Schneider is playing at the top of his game. The offense should put enough points on the board to win this game, despite what Vegas thinks. The Devils are allowing 35.3 shots on goal against this year, which is great for fantasy. Even if Schneider allows a goal or two, the amount of saves plus a win will get enough points to win a tournament.
