FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (10/7)

It is the first Saturday night NHL slate of the new season, and we are rewarded with 14 games on the main slate. Large slates like this can be a bit overwhelming especially for newer players to NHL DFS. In cash contests, which are 50/50 contests and double ups, I like to have a balanced lineup of players from the best matchups of the day.

Here are the top teams to build your lineups from today:

  • Pittsburgh Penguins
  • Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Buffalo Sabres
  • Chicago Blackhawks
  • Arizona Coyotes
  • Edmonton Oilers

Tonight’s top goalie options listed in order of salary:

Center

Jack Eichel (BUF): $7,300 vs. NYI
Eichel is poised for a great year after missing parts of last season with an ankle injury. He still managed to post 57 points (24 goals and 33 assists) in only 61 games. He is the top offensive weapon for the Sabres tonight against the New York Islanders who are coming off of a tough 5-0 loss last night in Columbus.

Auston Matthews (TOR): $7,900 vs. NYR
Matthews and the Maple Leafs are off and rolling already after putting up seven goals in their season opener in Winnipeg Wednesday night. The Leafs also have a favorable option at home versus the New York Rangers who lost to Colorado at home in their opener. In the first game, Matthews had one goal and two assists for a total of 31.2 fantasy points.

Wing

Jake Guentzel (PIT): $6,500 vs. NSH
The Penguins were recently rocked by Chicago losing 10-1 on Thursday night. I expect the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions to come ready to play tonight. Guentzel is always one of my favorite plays in NHL DFS but in two games has just one shot on goal but he does have two assists. I expect him to be very involved tonight in a Stanley Cup rematch versus Nashville.

Clayton Keller (ARI): $4,000 vs. VGK
Keller is going to be one of the top rookies in the NHL this season and just happens to be in a matchup that I really like tonight. In his first game, he had an assist and six shots on net which is nice to see that he’s not shy about firing the puck. Vegas is coming off of its first win in franchise history last night in Dallas and I anticipate a bit of a let down that the young Coyotes should be able to take advantage of.

Evander Kane (BUF): $5,400 vs. NYI
Kane is one of the more underrated power forwards in the NHL and I like pairing him with Jack Eichel in my DFS lineup tonight. Last season he posted 28 goals in 70 games, and I think he has the potential to top the 30-goal mark this season.

Patrick Marleau (TOR): $5,700 vs. NYR
Marleau didn’t waste any time fitting in with the blue and white of Toronto scoring two goals and getting off five shots on net against Winnipeg in the opener. He will make his home debut for the Maple Leafs and should be very involved in the offensive attack against a defensively suspect New York Rangers squad.

Defense

Brent Seabrook (CHI): $4,700 vs. CLS
Seabrook had a great night in Chicago’s 10-1 rout versus Pittsburgh posting one goal and two assists for 34.4 fantasy points. While I don’t anticipate a 30-point fantasy night, I do like Chicago’s matchup against Columbus with the Blue Jackets, who will be on the second night of back-to-back games. Seabrook will be on the ice in all key situations and power-play units which gives me exposure to the top players on the Blackhawks like Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews.

Oscar Klefbom (EDM): $5,100 @ VAN
With only two center selections it becomes difficult to decide what centers to select with so many great choices tonight. Everyone wants Connor McDavid in their lineup but at a price tag of $9,200, it becomes difficult to roster him. Much like I did with Brent Seabrook, Oscar Klefbom gives me likely exposure to McDavid in a very good matchup tonight at Vancouver. In their first game, Klefbom led the team in ice time with 22:30 minutes and fired nine shots on goal. While he did not register a point, he will be heavily involved in the Oilers offensive attack once again tonight.

Goalie

Cam Talbot (EDM): $8,300 @ VAN
Talbot is an easy selection for cash lineups tonight playing for one of the top teams in the NHL versus one of the league’s worst. This will be Vancouver’s opening game and Edmonton is coming off of a nice 3-0 shutout win versus Calgary. With high aspirations, two days off and a national Hockey Night in Canada audience watching, the Oilers will not be taking the Canucks lightly.
