Fantasy Football: Dynasty Waiver Wire Stashes (Week 7)

Peter Howard takes a look for dynasty league waiver wire stashes for Week 7.

Welcome back to the Dynasty Waiver Wire. Here I try to highlight under-owned or undervalued players in dynasty leagues. Most Waiver Wire columns have to focus on the question of how to react to the most recent developments in the NFL. I want to dig a little deeper for longer-term prospects. This means they can and will burn roster spots in 2017 and, depending on your patience, longer. Or not. We’ve been lucky this season so far in that regard, just don’t expect it.

Brett Hundley (QB – GBP)
Trying to stay relevant to the current season here just in case anyone thinks he’s just a fill-in for seasonal leagues. Aaron Rodgers‘ broken collarbone leaves an obvious opportunity for the young backup. Brett Hundley has been on the radar in two-quarterback and Superflex leagues for a while now. Being behind Aaron Rodgers is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, he’s never going to take the job even if he blows Dak Prescott‘s first season out the water in every manner possible. It’s not going to happen. On the other hand, he’s had the benefit of working with and watching the best in the game since he was drafted in 2015. Good tape is good tape and a good profile is a good profile. Hundley has been impressive in spots during the preseason and it combines well with a 98th percentile SPARQ-x score and an 81st percentile college QBR. This is an unfortunate way to get an opportunity, but it could also give him the chance to get more notice from quarterback-hungry teams.

Josh Reynolds (WR – LAR)
This is my rookie reminder of the week. Josh Reynolds has caught one pass this season and it went for 28 yards. Needless to say, he pops out on un-filtered efficiency stats like RACR. Sammy Watkins is the most skilled wide receiver on the depth chart but isn’t getting volume right now. I’m on record as being “not a fan” of Cooper Kupp. I’m willing to admit he has been productive and has a knack for the ball but my upside prediction for him was also someone who could get numbers with volume, and while his targets have stayed consistent I think his upside is more muted then some. Robert Woods, well, he’s Robert Woods and we have seen that he can be productive but has little long-term upside. You don’t even have to agree with any of those opinions to agree that one of the most surprising dominate teams of 2017 has some softness to its depth chart. Given Reynolds is a  6’3″, 194 lbs 4th rounder with a 78th percent College Dominator, he shouldn’t fall off your radar. His page on PlayerProfiler.com demonstrates that he is athletic as well as dominant in college.

Alex Collins (RB – BAL)
Alex Collins has been living off a high level of efficiency this season. Long breakaway runs have padded his stat line. However his touch total, despite fumbling issues, has continued to increase into Week 6. While I’m a big Javorius “Buck” Allen fan, it’s hard to ignore that despite his continued success in the passing and running game, Collins continues to eat into the teams rushing attempts and overtook him this week. A mediocre athlete, but he does have a 62nd percentile college dominator rating. He has been playing out of his cleats trying to win more opportunity this season, and it’s worked.

Matt Breida (RB – SF)
Matt Bredia is probably a little shallow and relevant right now to qualify for this column, but he’s also still on some waiver wires. I don’t think Brieda is a legitimate threat to Carlos Hyde straight up, in all honesty. But the recent moves by the team – such as using “the hot hand” approach and the trade rumors in the off-season that have persisted in recent weeks – lend credence to the idea that Breida has a role and could gain even more significant volume. He’s an 88th percentile SPQARQ-x athlete who had a 33rd percentile College Target Share. He’s small, at 5’9″ and 194 lbs, but has already proven effective to some degree at the NFL level.

Jeremy McNichols (RB – SF)
Riding high on an Aaron Jones over Jamaal Williams train that pulled into the station last week, I want to talk about Jeremy McNichols. I know, he’s been more than disappointing. After being drafted in the 5th round by the Buccaneers McNichols, a 5’9″ 214 lbs running back with an 89th percentile College Dominator, flamed out and failed to even make the practice squad. Picked up but the 49ers he is buried on the depth chart. Clearly, he came into the league raw, unprepared and things haven’t gone right. But he is also the only running back on the roster who could/might/maybe develop into anything close to a 3-down back. Be prepared to burn a roster spot for a considerable amount of time if you pick him up, and it may never pay off. But players with his college production and athleticism are rarely this cheap in dynasty.

Demarcus Robinson (WR – KC)
I’ve mentioned his name before as an “honorable mention,” but now that Chris Conley has a torn Achilles it’s worth revisiting in more depth. Robinson saw 5 targets in Week 6 even though he only managed to haul in one of the for 16 yards. He came into the league as a talented but off-field issue ridden prospect. With a 40th percentile College Dominator and great size for the position, (6’1″ – 203 lbs) Robinson has a 77th percentile Agility score and 63rd percentile catch radius. Since entering the NFL he has shown none of his previous off-field issues and now that some opportunity has opened up he is someone you should consider adding in deeper leagues and watching in others.
