Fantasy Football Target Analysis: Week 4

Fantasy Football Target Analysis: Week 4

Tracking weekly targets can be an extremely useful tool in the arsenal of any fantasy football player. While reception, touchdown, and yardage numbers tell part of the story, targets are where we truly can tell what players are being given a chance to put up weekly fantasy points.

After a Week 3 bye, we’re back to bring you all of the targets from Week 4 and what they mean for your fantasy football teams moving forward. Bear in mind that different sites might track targets differently.

Arizona Cardinals

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Andre Ellington ARZ RB 15 9 86 0 2
Jaron Brown ARZ WR 12 8 105 0 0
Larry Fitzgerald ARZ WR 6 4 32 1 0
John Brown ARZ WR 6 3 47 0 0
Chris Johnson ARZ RB 3 3 31 0 0
Jermaine Gresham ARZ TE 2 2 12 0 0

Andre Ellington led the Cardinals in looks and grabs while also leading the Arizona backfield in snaps for the second consecutive week. Don’t expect a lot of rushing production from Ellington, who has only 12 attempts this year. However, Arizona’s struggles to run the ball and injuries throughout their receiving corps mean Ellington should remain a big part of an Arizona passing attack that ranks second in the league in passing.

Larry Fitzgerald continues to trend up one week, then back down the next, but he did manage to get into the end zone for a second-straight week. Fitzgerald should see plenty of Philadelphia right cornerback Rasul Douglas in Week 5, which is a favorable pairing.

J.J. Nelson played a season-low 25 snaps and was not a factor in Arizona’s victory. It looks like Neslon could take a back seat when John Brown, who returned to log 53 snaps, is healthy.

Atlanta Falcons

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Justin Hardy ATL WR 6 2 12 1 2
Austin Hooper ATL TE 6 5 50 0 1
Julio Jones ATL WR 5 3 30 0 0
Tevin Coleman ATL RB 5 4 65 0 1
Nick Williams ATL WR 4 3 30 0 1
Taylor Gabriel ATL WR 3 0 0 0 0
Levine Toilolo ATL TE 3 3 21 0 0
Mohamed Sanu ATL WR 3 1 3 0 0
Derrick Coleman ATL FB 2 1 11 0 0
Devonta Freeman ATL RB 2 2 20 0 0

Mohamed Sanu (hamstring) could miss a game or two following Atlanta’s Week 5 bye. Taylor Gabriel would most likely start in place of Sanu but could split time with Justin Hardy.

It could also make sense for the Falcons to use more 2-back formations if Sanu or Julio Jones (hip) miss Week 6. Devonta Freeman is out-snapping Tevin Coleman at a roughly 2-1 margin, but Coleman is playing a bigger role in the passing game. That should carry over against the Dolphins in Week 6.

Austin Hooper played a season-high 59 snaps and now leads the Falcons’ skill position players with 196. Hooper also caught five balls last week, tying his season total from the first two games. Hooper hasn’t earned a big enough piece of Atlanta’s everyday offense to consider being anything more than a matchup-dependent dart throw.

Baltimore Ravens

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Mike Wallace BAL WR 10 6 55 1 0
Michael Campanaro BAL WR 6 4 25 0 0
Jeremy Maclin BAL WR 6 3 21 0 0
Benjamin Watson BAL TE 6 5 43 0 0
Javorius Allen BAL RB 6 6 37 0 0
Nick Boyle BAL TE 5 5 36 0 0
Breshad Perriman BAL WR 4 1 6 0 0
Chris Matthews BAL WR 2 1 12 0 1
Alex Collins BAL RB 2 0 0 0 1

Joe Flacco continues to play poorly, though he did throw for a season-best 235 yards this week against the Steelers. One-quarter of the way through the season and Flacco has tossed only four touchdowns against six interceptions and currently sits at QB31. The Raiders are on deck for Baltimore in Week 5, but Flacco should only be started in 2QB leagues.

It looks like Buck Allen has settled into the Danny Woodhead role for the Ravens. Allen caught all six of his targets in Week 4 and has three-straight games with 5 or more receptions. However, Allen has only rushed the ball 10 times for 22 yards in the Ravens’ past two contests.

After logging all of three catches in three games, Mike Wallace hauled in six grabs against the Steelers for 55 yards and his first touchdown. Most of that production came in the second half when Baltimore was well behind, so don’t expect Wallace to suddenly turn around what has been a horrid start.

Buffalo Bills

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Charles Clay BUF TE 7 5 112 0 0
Zay Jones BUF WR 5 1 18 0 1
LeSean McCoy BUF RB 3 3 32 0 0
Jordan Matthews BUF WR 2 2 10 1 0
Kaelin Clay BUF WR 2 0 0 0 0
Andre Holmes BUF WR 1 1 10 0 0

One of the biggest surprises of the 2017 season, Charles Clay had a huge 112-yard Week 4 performance and has now accounted for 31% of Tyrod Taylor’s total passing yards this season. Currently the No. 4 overall tight end in fantasy, Clay remains a strong Week 5 option at Cincinnati.

Jordan Matthews (thumb) is expected to miss at least a month, leaving the Bills down to Zay Jones and Andre Holmes as their starting wideouts. Facing a solid pair of Bengals’ cornerbacks in Adam Jones and Dre Kirkpatrick, both Buffalo wideouts could continue to struggle.

Carolina Panthers

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Devin Funchess CAR WR 9 7 70 2 0
Christian McCaffrey CAR RB 6 4 33 0 0
Kelvin Benjamin CAR WR 4 4 104 0 0
Ed Dickson CAR TE 4 3 62 0 0
Fozzy Whittaker CAR RB 3 3 34 1 0
Russell Shepard CAR WR 1 1 13 0 0
Johnathan Stewart CAR RB 1 0 0 0 0

Don’t read too much into the big numbers Devin Funchess put up against one of the league’s worst secondaries. Funchess has a knack for showing up in high-scoring affairs but disappearing for weeks at a time. Funchess isn’t likely to repeat his numbers facing a Lions defense that has only allowed three touchdowns to opposing wideouts.

RB Christian McCaffrey continues to be limited as a runner (2.9 ypc) but plays a larger role in Carolina’s passing attack. McCaffrey has caught at least four balls in all four Panthers’ games and leads the team with 22 grabs. McCaffrey has played 179 snaps, while Johnathan Stewart is down at 108, but Stewart has had more success on the ground. Expect this committee to continue.

Russell Shepard is acting as Carolina’s No. 3 wideout, but only has four catches on the season.

Chicago Bears

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Deonte Thompson CHI WR 9 5 44 0 0
Joshua Bellamy CHI WR 5 3 36 0 0
Tarik Cohen CHI RB 4 4 24 0 0
Kendall Wright CHI WR 4 4 51 1 0
Markus Wheaton CHI WR 3 0 0 0 0
Jordan Howard CHI RB 3 2 10 0 1
Zach Miller CHI TE 2 2 45 0 0
Dion Sims CHI TE 1 1 8 0 0

Mitchell Trubisky will start Week 5 for the Bears but will face a stiff challenge facing Minnesota’s stout secondary on Monday Night Football. Trubisky, true to his gun-slinger mentality, was willing to press the ball downfield in preseason action so that could be a positive development for Kendall Wright.

Tarik Cohen’s snap count has declined from 40 in Week 2, down to 18 in Week 4 and he has consecutive games with four catches and 24 yards. The Vikings have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to running backs, so don’t expect Cohen to see too many rush attempts this week.

Deonte Thompson has led the Bears in snaps for each of the past two games and there was an almost even split in Week 4 between Markus Wheaton (38), Wright (37) and Josh Bellamy (36).

Cincinnati Bengals

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
A.J. Green CIN WR 7 5 63 1 0
Tyler Kroft CIN TE 6 6 68 2 0
Joe Mixon CIN RB 4 4 19 0 0
Giovani Bernard CIN RB 3 3 67 1 0
Brandon LaFell CIN WR 3 2 17 0 0
Tyler Boyd CIN WR 2 2 15 0 0
C.J. Uzomah CIN TE 1 1 11 0 0
Jeremy Hill CIN RB 1 1 10 0 0
Ryan Hewitt CIN TE 1 1 16 0 0

Filling in for injured Tyler Eifert, Tyler Kroft led the Bengals in receiving in Week 4, including a pair of touchdown passes against Cleveland’s woeful defense. Kroft will find the going much tougher this week facing a Bills secondary that has yet to allow a tight end to score, but he should remain a decent streaming option as long as Eifert is sidelined.

Bengals running backs accounted for a healthy eight receptions against the Browns, including Gio Bernard’s 61-yard touchdown grab. Mixon has emerged as the lead dog over the past two weeks, while Bernard has fallen back into his accustomed role as the change-of-pace runner and passing down back.

The Bills secondary has allowed an NFL-low one touchdown pass to wide receivers this season, so this is a good week to lay off of Cincinnati wideouts not named A.J. Green. John Ross, who has played only five snaps, could return but is well off of the fantasy radar.

Cleveland Browns

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Duke Johnson CLE RB 9 9 47 0 0
Kenny Britt CLE WR 7 3 52 0 2
Ricardo Louis CLE WR 6 5 64 0 1
Seth DeValve CLE TE 4 1 2 0 1
Rashard Higgins CLE WR 3 0 0 0 1
David Njoku CLE TE 2 2 11 0 0
Kasen Williams CLE WR 3 0 0 0 0

QB DeShone Kizer comes off of his worst game as a pro and has now thrown eight interceptions versus three touchdowns. Kizer’s struggles are affecting all aspects of Cleveland’s offense, including the running game, where Isaiah Crowell has yet to exceed 44 yards in a game.

Duke Johnson got a garbage time touchdown run this week but was still a productive player with nine receptions. Johnson leads the Browns in catches and receiving yards and is likely the only Cleveland player to target in a Week 5 matchup with the Jets.

Hue Jackson said after his club’s latest loss that he would have benched Kenny Britt if not for the Browns suffering so many injuries throughout their receiving corps. It’s almost unheard of for a coach to be so openly critical of a veteran player like that, so it’s probably about time to cut bait with Britt.

Dallas Cowboys

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Dez Bryant DAL WR 11 5 98 0 1
Terrance Williams DAL WR 6 4 34 0 1
Cole Beasley DAL WR 4 3 17 0 0
Ezekiel Elliott DAL RB 4 4 54 1 0
Jason Witten DAL TE 2 1 9 0 0
James Hanna DAL TE 1 1 28 1 0

Considering the elite cornerbacks that Bryant has faced so far in 2017 (Janoris Jenkins, Aqib Talib, Patrick Peterson,) it’s impressive that Bryant is currently the WR23. The schedule should ease up a bit starting this week as Bryant and the Cowboys face a Green Bay secondary that allowed over 100 receiving yards to Julio Jones and A.J. Green over the past three games.

After a fast start, Jason Witten has managed to catch only two balls for 12 yards in the Cowboys past two contests. The Week 5 Dallas/Green Bay tilt opened at 53 points, so maybe Witten can rebound a bit after his recent slide.

Cole Beasly hasn’t made much of an impact yet in 2017. Beasley is averaging under eight yards-per-catch and is playing the same amount of snaps as he did last season. Beasley will draw Green Bay slot corner Quinten Rollins in coverage this week.

Denver Broncos

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Emmanuel Sanders DEN WR 5 4 27 0 0
A.J. Derby DEN TE 5 4 75 1 1
C.J. Anderson DEN RB 4 4 17 0 0

Bennie Fowler DEN WR 2 2 35 0 0
Isaiah McKenzie DEN WR 2 0 0 0 0
Jamaal Charles DEN RB 1 1 14 0 0

After a fast start, Trevor Siemian has, predictably, cooled off and the Broncos have turned back into a low-scoring, defensive-minded offense that is fantasy unfriendly. Maybe Siemian can use the bye week to figure things out. The Broncos draw the Giants in Week 6.

Virgil Green has led Denver’s tight ends in snaps all four weeks but is being utilized mostly as a blocker. A.J. Derby drew all five tight end targets in Week 4 and Jeff Heuerman played all 17 snaps.

C.J. Anderson remains the clear RB1 for Denver. In Week 4, Anderson had his largest share of snaps of the season, outpacing Jamaal Charles 44-11. Devontae Booker saw his first action of the season, but only played eight snaps.

Detroit Lions

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
T.J. Jones DET WR 5 3 33 0 0
Golden Tate DET WR 5 3 29 0 0

Eric Ebron DET TE 4 2 27 0 0
Theo Riddick DET RB 2 1 8 0 0
Michael Roberts DET TE 1 1 15 0 0

Theo Riddick was almost entirely invisible in Week 4, garnering just one catch for eight yards and rushing for 1.0 yards-per-carry against Minnesota’s talented defense. Riddick was even out-snapped by Zach Zenner 19-18. As Ameer Abdullah has begun to emerge as a rusher, Riddick’s usage and production have started to wane. With a tough matchup against the Panthers on deck for Week 5, Riddick is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

Another disappointing showing from Eric Ebron, who was heavily-hyped as a potential top-5 fantasy tight end during the preseason. Hopefully, you didn’t listen, as some analysts saw these struggles coming.

Matthew Stafford’s poor showing in Week 4 was his worst fantasy performance in two seasons and the Lions face another stiff challenge this week against a Carolina secondary that has allowed only 211 passing yards per game. Golden Tate versus Captain Munnerlyn will be an intriguing battle to watch and will play a major role in how Stafford is able to rebound.

Green Bay Packers

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP

Aaron Ripkowski GB FB 2 1 6 0 0
Jamaal Williams GB RB 1 1 2 0 0
Lance Kendricks GB TE 1 1 0 0 0

After suffering a brutal shot to the head during Green Bay’s Week 4 victory, Devante Adams is considered questionable to play this week at Dallas. Should Adams sit out, Geronimo Allison would likely get the nod in a game with the second-highest over/under for Week 5.

TE Martellus Bennett caught a season-high six passes in Week 4, but only managed to generate 39 yards. Bennett did draw three red zone looks in that game but managed zero yards on two catches. The Cowboys rank 12th in the NFL against tight ends, allowing 10.8 points-per-game.

Jordy Nelson has caught all four of his targets inside the 10-yard line this season, resulting in 16 yards receiving and four touchdowns, which leads the NFL.

Houston Texans

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
DeAndre Hopkins HOU WR 12 10 107 1 0
Will Fuller HOU WR 6 4 35 2 0
Lamar Miller HOU RB 5 4 56 1 0
Ryan Griffin HOU TE 4 2 13 0 0
Bruce Ellington HOU WR 3 3 44 0 0
Stephen Anderson HOU TE 2 2 28 0 0

DeAndre Hopkins leads the NFL in targets (49) and receptions (31). At the one-quarter mark of the season, Nuk is on pace to put up a stat line of 124 receptions, 1,244 yards and eight touchdowns on 196 targets.

Will Fuller’s first action of the 2017 season resulted in a pair of touchdowns without a drop, a promising sign for the second-year wideout. Volume, however, will be a concern as DeAndre Hopkins absorbs such a large percentage of Deshaun Watson’s looks. Fuller’s deep speed will help open things up, especially over the middle.

Tyler Ervin, who has played the second-most snaps at running back for the Texans, tore his patellar tendon and has been placed on season-ending IR. D’Onta Foreman should see a couple more snaps and undrafted free agent WR Chris Thompson will act as the return man.

Indianapolis Colts

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Jack Doyle IND TE 7 5 27 0 1
T.Y. Hilton IND WR 5 3 30 0 0
Kamar Aiken IND WR 3 1 4 0 0
Frank Gore IND RB 3 3 34 0 0
Donte Moncrief IND WR 3 3 30 1 0
Brandon Williams IND TE 2 1 32 0 0
Darrell Daniels IND TE 1 0 0 0 1

T.Y. Hilton predictably struggled with Richard Sherman’s coverage but should find things much easier in Week 5 facing San Francisco’s porous secondary. Hilton put up a 7/153/1 slash during Indy’s last home game against a Browns secondary that is statistically much better than the 49ers.

Kamar Aiken played 51 snaps last week, which tied Hilton for the team lead. Aiken only managed to draw three targets and caught a single pass for four yards against Seattle and only has 47 receiving yards through four games. Aiken is aching without Andrew Luck.

Frank Gore’s three targets and receptions were his best of the season, but Gore isn’t likely to become a big part of Indy’s passing attack. Once Marlon Mack (shoulder) returns, Gore will cede more passing down work, limiting his upside to that of a 12-15 touch, aging runner on one of the league’s worst teams.

Jacksonville Jaguars

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Allen Hurns JAX WR 8 4 42 0 0

Chris Ivory JAX RB 2 1 2 0 0
Tommy Bohanon JAX FB 2 2 14 0 0
Corey Grant JAX RB 1 1 -5 0 0

Leonard Fournette has displayed solid receiving skills, reminding draftniks that just because a player doesn’t do something in college doesn’t mean he can’t perform that task well in the pros. Fournette has scored a touchdown in each of Jacksonville’s four games and has another solid matchup against Pittsburgh’s average run defense.

The Steelers have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points to wide receivers. Allen Hurns will see plenty of Pittsburgh slot corner Mike Hilton, who has fared very well in PFF’s coverage grades. Marqise Lee will face Joe Haden and Artie Burns. Overall, it’s a poor matchup all around for Jacksonville’s passing O.

Marcedes Lewis followed up his three-touchdown performance in London with a zero target effort in Week 4. Lewis has gone un-targeted in three of Jacksonville’s four games. If you picked up Lewis on the heels of that big game, it’s ok to take the L and drop Lewis.

Kansas City Chiefs

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Travis Kelce KC TE 8 7 111 1 0
Tyreek Hill KC WR 6 5 35 0 1

Albert Wilson KC WR 4 4 63 0 0
Chris Conley KC WR 4 2 31 0 0
Demetrius Harris KC TE 3 0 0 0 1

Travis Kelce was huge on Monday Night Football, pacing the Chiefs in looks, grabs, and scoring a red zone touchdown. Kelce also has a pretty good track record against Houston, exceeding 100-yards and scoring two touchdowns in his last three trips to NRG Stadium.

Alex Smith continues to impress while benefiting from the emergence of Kareem Hunt. Through four games, Smith has produced nine touchdowns without throwing an interception and sits as the No. 3 fantasy signal-caller. Houston’s rebuilt secondary, which has allowed the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, is up next for Smith and KC.

Surprisingly, Albert Wilson leads the Chiefs with four red zone receptions. No. 1 WR Tyreek Hill has received just one red zone look.

Los Angeles Chargers

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP
Keenan Allen LAC WR 9 5 138 0 0
Tyrell Williams LAC WR 6 5 115 1 0
Travis Benjamin LAC WR 5 2 21 0 1
Antonio Gates LAC TE 4 3 18 0 0
Hunter Henry LAC TE 3 2 16 1 0
Melvin Gordon LAC RB 2 1 7 0 1

Over the past two games, Hunter Henry and Antonio Gates have both played 76 snaps, which is just over 58% of the Chargers total plays. Henry has caught two of three passes for 16 yards and a score, while Gates has five receptions and 48 receiving yards.

Keenan Allen continues to thrive. Allen is averaging 10 targets per week and has surpassed 100-receiving yards twice. Allen is fourth in the league with 334 receiving yards and currently ranks as the WR9 in PPR leagues. A matchup with the New York Giants talented secondary awaits the Chargers in Week 5, but Allen is a weekly must-start.

Melvin Gordon had little success facing Philadelphia’s top-5 run D and could struggle again in Week 5 against New York’s No. 8-ranked run defense.

Los Angeles Rams

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP

Gerald Everett LAR TE 3 1 8 0 0
Sammy Watkins LAR WR 2 1 17 0 0
Tavon Austin LAR WR 2 1 -2 0 0

With seven more catches, Todd Gurley has moved past Kareem Hunt as the overall No. 1 fantasy running back. Gurley’s receiving prowess has been a welcomed addition this season after a lost sophomore season under Jeff Fisher. Among running backs, Gurley ranks seventh in targets (25) and fifth in receptions (20.)

Tavon Austin has caught 3 of 6 targets for 10 yards. All season. Austin, a former first-round draft pick, is the WR106 through four weeks.

Robert Woods leads the Rams with 22 targets, followed closely by Cooper Kupp’s 21 and Todd Gurley’s 20, but Sammy Watkins is the club’s leading fantasy scorer on 16 targets.

Miami Dolphins

PLAYER TEAM POS TARGET REC YDS TD DROP

Julius Thomas MIA TE 4 2 29 0 0
Kenny Stills MIA WR 3 3 13 0 0
Jay Ajayi MIA RB 1 1 8 0 0

The Dolphins’ brutal showing in London has many fantasy leaguers concerned – for good reason. Jay Cutler is the QB32 in fantasy points-per-game and has yet to eclipse 230 passing yards. Cutler’s woes are dragging down a Miami offense that boasts two quality wideouts and a top-10 running back.

Jarvis Landry is averaging 11 targets-per-game, which would be third in the NFL if Miami’s opening game had not been postponed.

DeVante Parker leads the Dolphins in receiving yards and put up a respectable 6/69/0 line even with Jay Cutler’s poor play. Parker should be a strong candidate to improve in Week 5 as Miami takes on a Tennessee Titans secondary that has surrendered a league-worst eight touchdowns to wideouts so far.

Laquon Treadwell MIN WR 2 0 0 0 0
Dalvin Cook MIN RB 2 1 8 0 1
David Morgan MIN TE 1 0 0 0 0

Dalvin Cook’s torn ACL will have devastating consequences for Minnesota’s offense. The Vikings, who are already on their second quarterback, will be forced to turn to plodding inside runner Latavius Murray on first-and-second downs, with Jerick McKinnon mixed in.

Stefon Diggs is the No. 1 fantasy wide receiver through four weeks. Even with Case Keenum under center, Diggs has caught 13 passes for 271 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the last two weeks. Up next, the Vikings travel to Chicago to face the Bears, who rank 25th against wide receivers.

After a touchdown in Minnesota’s opener, Kyle Rudolph hasn’t had a lot of success with Case Keenum. Over the Vikings’ past three games, Rudolph has commanded only 12 targets and ranks 32nd among NFL tight ends with only 5.1 PPR points-per-game.

Rob Gronkowski NE TE 5 4 80 0 0
James Develin NE FB 2 2 14 0 0

James White ranks sixth among NFL running backs with 26 targets and ranks third with 22 grabs.

The Patriots top-ranked offense currently has two wideouts who qualify as WR1s in fantasy football. Brandin Cooks (13/294/2) currently ranks as WR12, but Chris Hogan’s four touchdowns have vaulted him ahead of Cooks as fantasy’s No. 10 wideout.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers pass defense currently ranks worst in the league, surrendering 47.5 fantasy points-per-game to wide receivers. Even on a short travel week, all Patriots skill position starters warrant starting consideration for Week 5.

Ted Ginn NO WR 2 2 25 0 0
Michael Hoomanawanui NO TE 1 1 13 0 0
Brandon Coleman NO WR 1 1 31 0 0

Alvin Kamara commanded an impressive 15 touches on only 26 snaps during the Saints’ shutout victory over Miami. With a Week 5 bye on the horizon, we’ll have to wait an extra week to find out if Kamara can maintain his positive momentum.

Normally a solid receiving option out of the backfield, Mark Ingram had three drops versus the Dolphins and could conceivably lose more snaps to Kamara. With Adrian Peterson only getting six snaps, the Saints could be looking to use Ingram as their main runner on first-and-second downs, with Kamara serving the Darren Sproles/Reggie Bush role.

Willie Snead should be back following the bye and will eat into Ted Ginn’s targets.

Rhett Ellison NYG TE 2 2 11 1 0
Wayne Gallman NYG RB 2 2 8 1 0
Paul Perkins NYG RB 2 1 6 0 1

Odell Beckham had a couple of drops but also played through numerous injuries to earn a whopping 15 targets. Up next for the Giants is a favorable home matchup with the Chargers.

If you haven’t cut bait with Paul Perkins, now would probably be a good time to do so. Perkins is averaging an unbelievably-awful 1.9 yards-per-carry and was out-snapped by Wayne Gallman in Week 4. Gallman rushed 11 times for 42 yards and caught a touchdown off the bench. He could make a play for the starting gig as soon as this week.

Rookie TE Evan Engram continues to impress, this time playing a career-high 67 snaps and catching six of 10 targets. With 19 receptions, 200 yards and a touchdown, Engram is the No. 7 fantasy tight end through the first quarter of the season.

The Jets had so much success on the ground that they didn’t make a big effort to pass the ball. Jermaine Kearse (67) and Robby Anderson (55) continue to lead the Jets receiving corps in snaps.

New York travels to Cleveland to take on a decent Browns secondary in Week 5. Through four games, Cleveland has allowed only three touchdown receptions to opposing wideouts.

While the Browns have been good against wide receivers, they’ve gotten lit up by tight ends, who average 21 fantasy points-per-contest against Cleveland. That makes Austin Seferian-Jenkins, who caught all four of his targets in his debut, an intriguing streaming option for Week 5.

Derek Carr (back) is expected to miss at least a couple of games and that will have obvious and potentially severe consequences for Oakland’s offense. With E.J. Manuel under center, all of the Raiders’ pass catchers will get downgraded.

Marshawn Lynch could benefit from Carr’s absence should the Raiders decide to use a more conservative, ground-based offense. Up first is Baltimore’s 22nd-ranked fantasy run defense.

Seth Roberts got most of the playing time with Michael Crabtree missing last week, but Cordarrelle Patterson ended up hauling in six of six looks on only 33 snaps.

Philadelphia Eagles

Torrey Smith PHI WR 3 1 9 0 1
LeGarrette Blount PHI RB 1 1 20 0 0
Brent Celek PHI TE 1 0 0 0 0

Zach Ertz continues to impress, catching another five passes. Ertz leads all NFL tight ends in targets, receptions and receiving yards. Arizona’s defense has been very good defending tight ends, but Ertz, who is now the TE1, is a locked-in starter.

One interesting development out of Philadelphia’s backfield has been Wendell Smallwood’s snap counts. Smallwood has led all Eagles running backs in snaps in each of the past two games and got 14 touches, including a touchdown run in Philadelphia’s victory. Smallwood will cede goal-line work to LeGarrette Blount but could become an interesting PPR option with Darren Sproles on IR.

Torrey Smith has played 225 snaps for the Eagles and produced 68 yards of offense.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Antonio Brown PIT WR 7 4 34 0 0
Martavis Bryant PIT WR 5 3 48 0 0
Le’Veon Bell PIT RB 5 4 42 0 0
JuJu Smith-Schuster PIT WR 3 3 47 1 0
Jesse James PIT TE 3 3 40 0 0
Vance McDonald PIT TE 1 0 0 0 1

Le’Veon Bell’s inevitable breakout game led to an unusual disappointing performance from Antonio Brown, who finished fifth on the team with 34 yards receiving. Brown will bounce back but could underwhelm again in Week 5 against a pair of Jacksonville cornerbacks, A.J. Bouye and Jalen Ramsey, who have shut down opposing wide receivers.

It’s time to take notice of Juju Smith-Schuster, who has scored a pair of touchdowns in Pittsburgh’s past three games. What stands out is Smith-Schuster’s playing time, as he has out-snapped Martavis Bryant in back-to-back games.

While the Jags have excelled at stopping wide receivers, they’ve been vulnerable to tight ends. Jesse James, who trails only Le’Veon Bell and Antonio Brown in snaps, could make a decent streaming option this week.

Seattle Seahawks

Jimmy Graham SEA TE 6 4 61 0 1
Tyler Lockett SEA WR 5 4 67 0 0
Chris Carson SEA RB 3 3 24 0 0
Paul Richardson SEA WR 3 3 65 0 0
Doug Baldwin SEA WR 3 3 35 0 0
J.D. McKissic SEA RB 1 1  27 1 0
Luke Willson SEA TE 1 1 6 1 0

Seattle’s backfield is a mess and just got more complicated with Chris Carson’s season-ending injury. Thomas Rawls should be the next man up but could be spelled liberally by Eddie Lacy, C.J. Prosise, J.D. McKissic, or even Shaun Alexander. Probably not though.

Doug Baldwin battled a groin injury and ended up with garnering only three targets against the Colts. Baldwin should be close to 100-percent healthy and is a strong candidate to rebound against an average LA Rams secondary.

The perception that Russell Wilson is struggling can be rebuked by his fantasy owners, who are undoubtedly enjoying Wilson’s overall QB4 status, thanks in large part to 138 rushing yards, second among all signal-callers.

San Francisco 49ers

Trent Taylor SF WR 9 5 47 0 0
Pierre Garcon SF WR 8 4 36 0 0

Kyle Juszczyk SF FB 3 3 15 0 0
George Kittle SF TE 3 2 35 0 1
Matt Breida SF RB 3 1 4 0 1

Aldrick Robinson logged a surprising 73 snaps last week and led the Niners in targets with 12. But Robinson only managed to corral three of those looks – the only San Francisco receiver to fall below a 50-percent catch rate.

Carlos Hyde continues to dominate snaps and touches out of San Francisco’s backfield. Hyde is the No. 8-ranked fantasy running back through four games. Not bad for a guy that was rumored to be a cut candidate this summer.

TE George Kittle played a team-high 75 snaps, but only got three looks. Kittle is clearly San Francisco’s go-to tight end but remains irrelevant in fantasy due to Brian Hoyer’s struggles.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Mike Evans TB WR 8 5 67 1 0
Adam Humphries TB WR 7 6 70 0 0
Cameron Brate TB TE 6 4 80 1 1
DeSean Jackson TB WR 5 2 20 0 0
O.J. Howard TB TE 4 2 63 1 0
Jacquizz Rodgers TB RB 3 2 25 0 0

One of the most interesting scenarios to watch in Week 5 will be how the Bucs handle Doug Martin’s return. Martin sat out the first month of the season due to a suspension, but Jacquizz Rodgers hasn’t shown enough to remain the unquestioned starter.

Both Tampa tight ends got into the end-zone in Week 4. Cameron Brate has been out-snapped by rookie O.J. Howard in all three games, but Brate has been the more productive receiver. Howard, who spends more time as an in-line blocker, has only caught four balls and isn’t running enough routes to warrant starting consideration quite yet.

DeSean Jackson isn’t a reliable source of weekly production but is worth a look this week facing a New England secondary that yields 40 fantasy points-per-game to wide receivers.

Tennessee Titans

Rishard Matthews TEN WR 8 3 49 0 0
Delanie Walker TEN TE 5 3 51 0 0
Eric Decker TEN WR 2 2 13 0 0
Taywan Taylor TEN WR 1 0 0 0 0

Things went south quickly for the Titans in Houston, as the Texans set a franchise record with 57 points. Marcus Mariota rushed for a pair of scores but tweaked a hamstring and was pulled from the blowout. Mariota’s status will determine if any of Tennessee’s pass catchers will be on the fantasy radar in Miami this week.

Eric Decker leads the Titans’ receiving corps with 199 snaps but has done little with the playing time. Through four games Decker has not yet hit 50 receiving yards or gotten into the end zone.

Not listed, but DeMarco Murray caught 2-of-2 targets for four yards in Week 4.

Washington Redskins

Chris Thompson WAS RB 1 1 4 0 0
Jamison Crowder WAS WR 1 1 -7 0 0
Niles Paul WAS TE 1 0 0 0 1

Limited by a chest and toe injury, Jordan Reed caught three balls for 21 yards on only 13 snaps.

Terrelle Pryor got his first touchdown with Washington but later had a bad drop over the middle. Kirk Cousins and Pryor just haven’t clicked in the regular season after the pair got off to an impressive start in training camp.

Chris Thompson played 26 snaps at running back, more than double the 12 that both Samaje Perine and Rob Kelley logged. Thompson only caught one pass, a season low.
