Once kickoffs take place on Sunday, we are officially on the back-half of fantasy regular season action. No, this isn’t a joke. Had Ezekiel Elliott just served his suspension when the season started, he’d be returning to action soon. That gives you an idea of how deep we are into the season. Deshaun Watson and Alex Smith are your No. 1 and No. 2 quarterbacks, Kareem Hunt and Leonard Fournette are both top-three running backs, and Zach Ertz is the No. 1 tight end. Imagine if we had this information before the start of the season… we’d all be rich.
But why didn’t we have that information? Because what happened in the past doesn’t automatically translate to future success. Just because Orleans Darkwa finished as a top running back in Week 6, it doesn’t mean that he needs to be started in Week 7. Just because Adrian Peterson found the fountain of youth against the Bucs, it doesn’t mean he’s going to steal carries from David Johnson. You see what I mean?

Here are my early Week 7 rankings, which will be updated as we go throughout the week. As I’ve said in the past, rankings don’t show or explain everything, but rather give you a snapshot of what thoughts might look like in condensed form. If you’re like me and would prefer to find out why a player is where they are in the rankings, you need to check out The Primer, which comes out every Thursday, detailing every fantasy player’s matchup from every single game. It’s around 20,000 words, so you won’t have to worry about condensed form like rankings. Follow me on Twitter @MikeTagliereNFL to get notified right when that article goes up. Until then, enjoy the snapshot of my thoughts on Week 7.
