NFL DFS Stacking Options for Week 5

NFL DFS Stacking Options for Week 5

Week 5 has the potential for a lot of close games with only two matchups coming in with a Vegas line over five points. This is the perfect time to stack multiple players from the same game as both teams continue to go back and forth down the field to one-up each other. This week I have two QB/WR stacks that fit my perfect stacking scenario that includes a high-priced QB that likes to spread the ball around who we can stack with a low-cost WR and then bring it back with a stud WR on the opposing team that dominates target share. This allows you to soak up the majority of fantasy points from both teams while only rostering three plays and not blowing all your salary space.

All salaries are from FanDuel but stacks can be considered for any DFS site. So, with that let’s stack’em up for Week 5.

QB Tom Brady (NE): $9,300 / WR Danny Amendola (NE): $6,000
Perhaps the game of the week from a DFS perspective will be on Thursday night when the Buccaneers host the Patriots. Thursday night games have featured a lot of offense this season and this week should be no different with the highest Vegas total (55.5) of the week. While both QBs are solid options, I’d prefer to play Brady as I mentioned in my intro, since he spreads the ball around making it more difficult to pinpoint one receiving option. That said, Amendola is cheap and might be in the best spot for the Patriots against a Buccaneers’ secondary that ranks 32nd according to FootballOutsiders DVOA rankings against #3 WRs. Be sure to bring it back with Mike Evans who has received almost a 30% target share this season.

Bring it back with: Mike Evans (TB): $8,900

QB Aaron Rodgers (GB): $9,500 / WR Randall Cobb (GB): $6,600
Rodgers and the Packers’ passing game offers a similar setup to the Patriots if you don’t want to branch out into the full week slate of games. Rodgers also distributes his targets and fantasy production in a pass-heavy offense that may be starting their third string RB. Cobb has had more success than Jordy Nelson against the Cowboys in recent matchups averaging 7.5 receptions for 78 yards in four meetings (including playoff) over the last three seasons. Meanwhile, the Cowboys have been hurt by slot receivers the last couple of week including Cooper Kupp (5-60-1) and Larry Fitzgerald (13-149-1). Bring it back with Dez Bryant who has almost 28% target share facing a beatable Packers’ secondary.

Bring it back with: Dez Bryant (DAL): $7,800

QB Jay Cutler (MIA): $6,700 / WR DeVante Parker (MIA): $6,100
If you want to get some value with your stack then look no further than the Dolphins. Cutler and the Dolphins’ offense was brutal in London last week but will come home to Miami for their first true home game of the season following a Week 1 bye due to the hurricane followed by two road games and a game in London. Cutler will face a Titans’ defense that has allowed 285 passing yards per game (27th) and 2.75 passing touchdowns per game (31st). He has established a nice connection with Parker as a downfield threat averaging 12.8 YPC and will face a Titans’ secondary that ranks 31st against opposing No. 2 WRs according to FootballOutsiders’ DVOA rankings. The Titans’ Rishard Matthews has averaged nine targets over his last two games without Corey Davis, who has already been ruled out for Week 5.

Bring it back with: Rishard Matthews (TEN): $5,600

RB Todd Gurley (LAR): $7,800 / DEF Los Angeles Rams: $4,800
Without any big home favorites with low Vegas totals this week, my RB/DEF stacks will focus on RBs that are performing well and in a good matchup with the hopes that a positive game script develops for them and the defense. Gurley has been on fire to start the season with almost 600 total yards and seven touchdowns through the first four games. This week he’ll face a Seahawks’ defense that has allowed 114 rushing yards per game to opposing RBs (28th) including 5.12 YPC (29th). The Rams’ defense has allowed a lot of points this season but they have also produced at least two sacks in every game and 1.75 turnovers per game.

RB Carlos Hyde (SF): $7,200 / DEF San Francisco 49ers: $4,200
Watch Hyde’s status as we approach game day as he is dealing with a hip injury. He still averaged 4.3 YPC last week against a good Cardinals’ run defense and should have a much easier time piling up yardage on the ground this week against the Colts. The Colts have a 23rd DVOA ranking against the run this season and have allowed four rushing scores through their first four games of the season which bodes well for a 49ers offense that runs the ball over 57% of the time inside the 10-yard line which is the second highest rate this season. The 49ers defense will look to take advantage of a Colts’ offense that has allowed an average of 3.5 sacks and 1.8 turnovers per game and four defensive touchdowns.
