Bobby Sylvester’s Week 16 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Bobby Sylvester’s Week 16 Rankings (Fantasy Football)

Happy championship week! If your roster is looking anything like mine, you’ve got some gut-wrenching start/sit decisions to make before Saturday. I will continue to update these rankings up until kickoff, so keep an eye out if you have any questions. As always, I’ll explain four of the most controversial ones. If you have more questions, don’t hesitate to let me know on Twitter. The shorter you keep it, the more I can get to. Good luck!

Jameis Winston (QB #10)

As I write this Thursday morning, if you asked our huge expert pool who is the best streamer, 69% would say Nick Foles, 24% have Blake Bortles and only 7% will agree with me in that it is Jameis Winston so take that for what it’s worth, but for the life of me, I can’t figure out why. The last time Winston played Carolina, he was predictably crushed, as they were playing in sustained 20 MPH winds with 40 MPH gusts thanks to a tropical system moving through. More likely, his stat line will end up like any of his other games since Week 3:

@MIN: 328 yds, 2 TD, 18 fantasy points
NYG: 332 yds, 3 TD, 26 FP
NE: 334 yds, 1 TD, 18 FP
@BUF: 384 yds, 3 TD, 26 FP
@GB: 270 yds, 2 TD, 20 FP
DET: 285 yds, 2 TD, 18 FP
ATL: 299 yds, 3 TD, 25 FP

Duke Johnson (RB #27)

So far this season, Duke has finished as a top 30 running back 10 times in 14 weeks. That is more than LeSean McCoy or Jordan Howard and just one fewer than Melvin Gordon or Alvin Kamara. Now, of course, Johnson has nowhere near the ceiling of those players, but the point is that he is as safe of a flex play as you are going to find, regardless of the matchup or game script. He is on pace for 70 receptions. If you had any wide receiver like that (the guys closest to him are Mike Evans, Brandin Cooks, Dez Bryant and Devin Funchess), you would start them each and every week and that doesn’t even account for the fact that he gets a handful of carries each game too.

Marquise Goodwin (WR #40)

There have been a couple wide receivers who have still put up solid games against the Jags this year, but their names were Antonio Brown and DeAndre Hopkins. Everyone else was unstartable unless they happened to catch a touchdown or two (think Austin Ekeler. While there is a chance that happens, as is true for any offensive player, the odds are slim considering Goodwin has just scored once so far this year. If you are starting him, you are betting on those low odds at a score.

Cameron Brate (TE #7)

O.J. Howard flat out stole the starting job from Brate, but now that Howard is moving to the IR for the season, Brate should be startable once again. Over the Bucs’ first seven games when he was still getting the majority of the snaps, Brate was 4th behind just Zach Ertz, Travis Kelce and Rob Gronkowski with 403 receiving yards and 4 touchdowns. In that time, he was a TE1 5 of 7 weeks, which again was fourth best in football. There is little reason to expect a different outcom with Howard entirely out of the way.
