DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 16

DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 16

This is likely your last week of caring about season-long fantasy leagues if you’re fortunate enough to be playing in your league’s Super Bowl (or unfortunate enough to be playing in my league’s Clown Bowl). However, most of you out there probably don’t have any season-long fantasy action to look forward to this week and, like myself, only have DraftKings left to play for.

Last week’s “perfect lineup” value plays were Sterling Shephard, Greg Olsen, Keelan Cole, and Jaydon Mickens. If you had Keelan Cole in your lineup then well done. Impressive foresight. If you had Jaydon Mickens in your lineup then you probably accidentally picked him. I didn’t even know who that was.

OK, let’s get to the Week 16 squad.

Quarterback

Drew Stanton (ARI): $4,500 v. NYG
I can’t believe I’m actually recommending Drew Stanton, but it’s an indication that you probably want to stay above the $6,000 barrier this week. Stanton is replacing Blaine Gabbert as the Cardinals starter, and this will now mark the third consecutive week that I’ve recommended a “value” QB against the Giants. It went pretty well with Dak Prescott in Week 14 and Nick Foles in Week 15, so let’s stick with it. Despite his limitations, Stanton posted two straight 15-point games in his two starts this season which is a more than respectable total for a $4,500 quarterback. He should get a bit of a boost going up against the 31st-ranked Giants pass defense, so give him a look if you’re so inclined to play value at QB.

Running Backs

Kapri Bibbs (WAS): $3,500 v. DEN
Revenge game? Kapri Bibbs, the former Broncos runner, emerged from the practice squad for the Redskins in Week 15 and did his best Chris Thompson impression with four catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. The rushing volume isn’t there, but the receiving volume has the potential to be in a Redskins offense desperate for some playmakers. Week 15 marked the Redskins best offensive performance in weeks so expect Bibbs to stay involved, especially with Samaje Perine offering very little out of the backfield.

Elijhaa Penny (ARI): $3,000 v. NYG
A Drew Stanton-Elijhaa Penny stack? I wouldn’t necessarily advise that, but it looks like Kerwynn Williams is in danger of sitting this one out against the 29th-ranked Giants run defense. That will leave Penny and D.J. Foster to man the Cardinals backfield with Penny likely taking on the lead back role as he out-carried Foster 10 carries to four carries last week. For the bare minimum price, Penny will have a tough time not being good value if he assumes lead-back duties against the Giants.

Wide Receivers

Keelan Cole (JAX): $4,700 @ SF
Keelan Cole had been trending up for a couple of weeks even before Marqise Lee‘s injury, yet most just wrote it off as a fluke. Still sitting at under $5,000 in a great match-up with the 49ers, Cole will be on a lot of radars following his monster 34-point performance last week in which he caught seven of nine targets for 186 yards and a touchdown. I have a tough time buying Jaydon Mickens as two of his five targets turned into touchdowns, but it’s time to get Cole in lineups and ride him until that price is too steep.

Jamison Crowder (WAS): $5,000 v. DEN
Crowder had 16 points last week but has seen his price drop $600 with a tough match-up against the Broncos. The good news is that it’s a home game for the Redskins as Crowder is averaging 21 points per game in his last four homes games. As the slot guy, he won’t draw the coverage of Aqib Talib.

Tight End

Cameron Brate (TB): $3,300 @ CAR
Let’s make Cameron Brate again! That may be a little easier now that fellow Bucs TE O.J. Howard is on I.R. Brate is questionable himself so keep an eye on his status, but he has had his best games when Jameis Winston has been under center and may get an even bigger boost if DeSean Jackson is forced to sit.

Defense/Special Teams

Lions D/ST (DET): $2,900 @ CIN
The Bengals have been a premium match-up to stream defenses against in the past few weeks,  and there’s no sign of that changing in the final two games of the season. Meanwhile, the Lions have actually been the third-best defense on a points per game basis on the main slate this Sunday and a strong play against lesser offenses such as the Bears and Browns. They are a bargain at their sub-$3,000 price tag.

That’s it for Week 16. Best of luck.
