DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 17

DraftKings NFL Value Plays: Week 17

There’s a reason why season-long fantasy leagues end after Week 16 generally, and that’s because we will likely be seeing some strange names in the top-placing DraftKings lineups this week. You can bet that some teams who have already solidified their playoff position will opt to rest their starters; the Rams have already announced that they will be one of those teams.

That leaves some major value to be had, but also major uncertainty. Let’s take a look at some DraftKings value plays for the final week of the NFL regular season, Week 17.

Quarterback

Jacoby Brissett (IND): $5,500 v. HOU
Jameis Winston was a consideration as he’s been putting up strong numbers since returning from injury, but at this point in the season, it appears to be the right move to play any human being with a fully functioning throwing arm that is playing quarterback against whatever is left of the Houston Texans defense. Whether Jacoby Brissett has a fully functioning throwing arm is up for debate, and it’s tough to lock in a guy who hasn’t broken 15 points since Week 10, but the Texans have been a joke on pass defense for virtually the entire season.

The Green Bay Packers are the only team to rank worse against opposing quarterbacks, but the Detroit Lions motivations are in question which leaves Brissett as the QB with the best matchup on Sunday. Brissett had 23.5 points in his last meeting with the Texans.

Running Backs

Carlos Hyde (SF): $4,900 v. LAR
The Rams are playing for nothing, and head coach Sean McVay has already said that Todd Gurley and Jared Goff won’t be playing. Many DFSers may opt to play the value of Malcolm Brown who will likely be the lead back in place of Todd Gurley, but the better RB plays will be on the other side of the ball against a Rams defense that ranks 29th against the run. Expect the 49ers to roll to their fifth straight win against an unmotivated Rams team, and that likely means a big rushing game for Carlos Hyde, who is priced below $5,000 for the first time since going for 20 points in Week 2.

Matt Breida (SF): $4,000 v. LAR
There will be room for two RBs to have strong games for the red-hot 49ers’ offense. Matt Breida was very involved in the offense last week, and both Breida and Hyde were able to put up 15+ points in the 49ers offensive explosion against the Jaguars in Week 16. Playing both 49ers backs will be a contrarian play, yet a sneaky one that can pay big dividends as Breida has both the burst and elusiveness to make an impact without a full workload.

Wide Receivers

Keelan Cole (JAX): $5,700 @ TEN
The greatest Christmas gift of all may have been another week of Keelan Cole below $6,000. You would be hard-pressed to find a hotter WR over the last three weeks than Keelan Cole who is averaging 131 yards over his last three games.

Marqise Lee will remain out which means Cole will continue to have a featured role in a strong matchup against the Titans. Unlike the Rams, the Jaguars seem set to roll their starters out there in Week 17.

Kenny Stills (MIA): $4,300 v. BUF
This one’s a bit of a shot-in-the-dark, but Kenny Stills has the blow-up potential you’re looking for in a GPP selection, and he will most certainly be lightly owned. All three of Stills’ big games of 15+ points have come at home and when he’s priced under $5,000.

Tight Ends

Antonio Gates (LAC): $4,200 v. OAK
It’s Week 17 of the year 2017, and here I am writing the name “Antonio Gates” as a value play. Gates turned back the clock with six catches for 81 yards and a touchdown against the Jets in his first game since Hunter Henry was placed on IR.

Gates is still underpriced against a Raiders team that probably won’t put up much of a fight after two straight heartbreaking losses. The Raiders rank 30th against opposing TEs.

Defense/Special Teams

San Francisco 49ers D/ST (SF): $2,100 @ LAR
You know it’s either Week 17 or a game against the Browns when you are suggesting the 49ers’ defense. Coming off their first double-digit effort of the season, the 49ers dropped in price by $200 in anticipation for their Week 17 matchup against the high-powered Rams offense.

However, this won’t be the same Rams offense without Todd Gurley on the field or Jared Goff under center. Instead, it will be Sean Mannion making his first NFL start against a 49ers team that appears to be playing with more confidence and motivation than any other team eliminated from the playoffs.

That’s it for Week 17 and the NFL regular season! I enjoyed providing my DraftKings value picks each week, even when whichever random, dart-throw tight end I took a shot on ended up catching two passes for 25 yards. Best of luck!
