FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (12/19)

Not including the bizarre afternoon game (Toronto Maple Leafs Day, really?), we have a nine-game slate to look forward to. With some expensive players in great spots tonight, let’s take a look at value plays to afford the studs.

Center

Ryan Spooner (BOS): $4,000 @ BUF
With teammate David Krejci sidelined due to an injury, Ryan Spooner will see additional ice time on the second line. Spooner will also see time on the top power-play unit adding offensive opportunities. The Bruins will travel to Buffalo in what will be their second game in a back-to-back. Although the travel is slightly worrisome, the matchup is certainly not. The Sabres are the worst team in the Eastern Conference and are now allowing 3.33 goals against per game (28th in the NHL). Vegas has the Bruins as a -150 road favorite in a 5.5 over/under game total. There will be goals scored from Boston and Spooner is in a great spot to contribute at just $4,000.

Wing

Andrew Ladd (NYI): $4,300 vs. DET
After signing a contract of $5,500,000 through 2023, be rest assured the Islanders are giving Andrew Ladd plenty of opportunities to score goals. Currently on the second line and second power-play unit, the veteran winger has just 15 points in 33 games played. The New York Islanders are an offensive juggernaut, however, ranking second in the NHL in goals scored per game. At home, the Islanders will likely have John Tavares deal with Henrik Zetterberg. This will leave the Ladd, Eberle, and Barzal line matched against a far less defensive Dylan Larkin line.

Christian Fischer (ARI): $4,200 vs. FLA
It is rare to ever recommend playing Arizona Coyote players. On a night like tonight, though, we need to dig deep. Christian Fischer is having a nice rookie campaign and is now playing on the top power-play unit. Although on the third line, he will skate alongside Clayton Keller and Dylan Strome. All three forwards are young, talented, promising offensive players who can break out on any given night. Why not tonight? The Panthers have been a team to pick on all year, allowing 3.42 goals against per game (29th in the NHL). As an extremely under-owned, inexpensive play, the third line for the Coyotes provide a lot of upside in tournament formats.

Defense

Shea Theodore (VGK): $3,600 vs. TB
Quarterbacking arguably the hottest team in the NHL, look to Shea Theodore for salary relief and upside. The box scores have not been all that impressive, but the power-play ice time provides a lot of opportunity for a $3,600 defenseman. With a 6-1-1 record in December, the Vegas Golden Knights have a tough match-up tonight against the best offensive team in the NHL. Theodore will be asked to shut down the top line and contribute offensively. With what should be a lot of minutes, Theodore has a safe floor and high ceiling for fantasy purposes.

Goalie

Anton Khudobin (BOS): $7,400 @ BUF
The Boston Bruins are playing on consecutive nights which gives Anton Khudobin the opportunity to start tonight. In 12 games played, Khudobin has a 2.67 GAA (Goals Against Average), .915 SV% (Save Percentage), to go along with a 7-2-2 record. As one of the better back-ups in the NHL, Khudobin has a great matchup against a weak team. With the win so important in FanDuel, lock the Boston netminder in who is a heavy road favorite.
