FanDuel Players to Fade: Week 16

Welcome to the Week 16 NFL FanDuel players to fade article. In this article, we will take a look at players who may be highly owned or overpriced and who you can feel comfortable fading. Let’s go ahead and take a look at some of the options to ignore for Week 16.

Quarterback

Tom Brady (NE): $8,600 vs. BUF
I’m not sure if Tom Brady is just coasting into the playoffs or if his older age is finally catching up with him, but he has not been putting up his typical elite numbers over his past three games. This week he will play the Bills, who he just faced three weeks ago.

The Bills have a solid pass defense, and Brady was only able to throw for 258 yards with no touchdowns. I cannot recommend fading him in the championship of your season long leagues, but I do think you can fade him on FanDuel since he is the second-highest-priced quarterback on the main slate this week.

Running Back

Carlos Hyde (SF): $6,800 vs. JAC
The 49ers’ offense has been a lot more productive since Jimmy Garoppolo became the starting quarterback in Week 13. However, Carlos Hyde has seen a hit in his fantasy production in that same span.

Before Garoppolo became the starting quarterback, Hyde was somewhat involved in the passing game. Since Week 13, he only has five total receptions. With the decrease in receptions and the fact that the Jaguars have an excellent defensive unit, I will be fading Hyde this week.

Leonard Fournette (JAC): $8,100 at SF
Call me crazy, but I think I will be fading Leonard Fournette in a golden matchup against the 49ers. Fournette has not had a great game since before the Jaguars’ Week 8 bye, and I think it may be due to his health.

The Jaguars can still get a first-round bye if the Steelers lose one of their last two games against the Texans or the Browns and if the Jaguars win one of their last two games. However, I do not think the Jaguars will push Fournette too hard if he is active this week and his quad isn’t 100%.

Wide Receiver

Julio Jones (ATL): $8,500 at NO
Outside of his monster performance in Week 12 against the Buccaneers, Julio Jones has not been playing like someone who is the most expensive option at his position. Jones did have 98 yards and five receptions against the Saints in Week 14, but even those numbers aren’t significant for someone who is priced this high. Similar to Brady, it would be foolish to fade him in season-long leagues, but when you factor in salary, there are just several cheaper options who I would rather use over Jones this week.

A.J. Green (CIN): $7,800 vs. DET
The Bengals appear to have completely checked out for the rest of the season getting blown out in back to back weeks. This matchup this past Sunday against the Vikings was tough, but there is no explanation for A.J. Green getting shut down by the Bears two weeks ago.

This week he has an extremely difficult individual matchup against Darius Slay, who is expected to shadow Green. According to Pro Football Focus, Slay is currently the ninth-best cornerback this season in their cornerback grades.

Tight End

Vernon Davis (WAS): $6,000 vs. DEN
Vernon Davis did pretty well for the Redskins immediately after Jordan Reed got hurt. However, Davis has struggled to produce much over the past four weeks, with only 14 total targets, six total receptions, 59 total receiving yards, and a lone touchdown.

I don’t think it’s necessarily Davis’s fault, but rather the Redskins’ depleted offensive line which has prevented the entire offensive unit to produce over that same time frame. I think a lot of people will see that the Broncos allow the third-most FanDuel points and jump on Davis, but I am hesitant to do so this week.
