DRAFT NFL Lineup Advice: Wild Card Round (Sat/Sun)

DRAFT NFL Lineup Advice: Wild Card Round (Sat/Sun)

The world of DFS is not over yet for football.

DRAFT is continuing to host contests, ranging from the usual head-to-head, to three (and even four) person drafts.

As long as DRAFT is willing to let us join drafts, I’ll be here providing you with rankings. This time, I’ll even add a bonus rank to each position, so you’ll see which player is on the fringe.

Now, without further ado, on to the rankings…

Quarterback

1. Drew Brees, Saints (vs. Panthers)
2. Jared Goff, Rams (vs. Falcons)
3. Alex Smith, Chiefs (vs. Titans)
4. Blake Bortles, Jaguars (vs. Bills)
5. Marcus Mariota, Titans (@ Chiefs)

In head-to-head contests, I have no problem having Drew Brees or Jared Goff on my team. So, save the QB selection for last.

However, in three (or four) person entries, I don’t want to be the team who needs to decide between the rest of the field when Brees and Goff are gone.

Both the Saints and Rams are projected to score 27 points in their Wild Card matchups. That leads the slate. New Orleans concluded the regular season with the second-most yards per game (391.2), behind only New England (394.2). The third-highest team was Pittsburgh (377.9 ypg).

The Rams led the league with 29.9 points per game. New Orleans finished fourth (28 ppg).

Running Back

1. Todd Gurley II, Rams (vs. Falcons)
2. Alvin Kamara, Saints (vs. Panthers)
3. Mark Ingram, Saints (vs. Panthers)
4. Leonard Fournette, Jaguars (vs. Bills)
5. Kareem Hunt, Chiefs (vs. Titans)
6. Devonta Freeman, Falcons (@ Rams)
7. Derrick Henry, Titans (@ Chiefs)
8. Christian McCaffrey, Panthers (@ Saints)
9. LeSean McCoy, Bills (@ Jaguars)

Nobody ended the regular season hotter, and won more teams fantasy football titles, than Todd Gurley.

In Weeks 14-16, Gurley gained 366 rushing yards, 225 receiving yards (on 16 catches), and scored eight total touchdowns. Now, he’s well rested and ready to roll in the playoffs.

The first two picks in the Wild Card draft will be Gurley and Alvin Kamara. I would be happy with any two running backs between spots 1-7. Unless someone gifts you Gurley and Kamara in a head-to-head league, don’t worry about filling both RB spots early in your draft.

Derrick Henry will be the steal of many contests this week. DeMarco Murray is out and Henry will finally get his time to shine. In Week 17, Henry recorded 28 carries against Jacksonville. He tallied 117 total yards (one catch) and one touchdown.

Wide Receiver/Tight End

1. Michael Thomas, Saints (vs. Panthers)
2. Julio Jones, Falcons (@ Rams)
3. Tyreek Hill, Chiefs (vs. Titans)
4. Travis Kelce, Chiefs (vs. Titans)
5. Cooper Kupp, Rams (vs. Falcons)
6. Mohamed Sanu, Falcons (@ Rams)
7. Ted Ginn Jr., Saints (vs. Panthers)
8. Albert Wilson, Chiefs (vs. Titans)
9. Greg Olsen, Panthers (@ Saints)

This is where you don’t want to wait until the end to fill your spots.

In three, and four, person contests, I wouldn’t want to go below the fifth-ranked player.

Two overlooked studs will be Tyreek Hill and Cooper Kupp. Surprisingly, Hill completed the regular season with the seventh-most receiving yards among wide receivers (1,183). As for Kupp, he finished tied for third-most in red zone targets (23).
