FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (1/9)

FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (1/9)

We have a lighter Tuesday slate, with just seven games scheduled tonight. No team is playing in a back-to-back tonight, leaving all 14 well rested. There are some very heavy favorites tonight, so let’s take a look at a few value options, which will open salary to fit in any stack you like.

Center

Kyle Turris (NSH): $4,900 vs. EDM
The Edmonton Oilers are struggling, as they did at the beginning of the year. Since December 27th, the Oilers have been outscored 23-9. More recently, the Oilers started a road trip on Saturday. They lost 5-1 to DAL and then 4-1 to CHI. Currently, with the worst penalty kill in the NHL, the Oilers have struggled to keep the puck out. Kyle Turris comes in at less than $5,000 tonight in a plus matchup. Centering the second forward line and top Power Play, look for Turris to contribute on offense. The Predators are expected to win this game as a -170 favorite. Turris and the Preds should have no trouble taking care of a disappointing Oilers team at home.

Wing

Kevin Fiala (NSH): $4,800 vs. EDM
With Ryan Johansen and the Nashville Predators top line likely having their hands full with Connor McDavid, the second line will have a softer matchup. Kyle Turris, Kevin Fiala, and Craig Smith are all great options tonight. Fiala and Turris will also see time together on the top power-play unit. Fiala has been on a cold streak, there is no denying that. Pointless in his last seven games, this could be the “get right” spot for the young left winger. Before those seven games, Fiala was on fire scoring 11 points in eight games. The talent is there. Finally seeing a decrease in price, the entire second forward line for the Preds are in play tonight at a value.

Kyle Connor (WPG): $4,600 @ BUF
Targeting Buffalo all season has been a successful strategy. The Sabres have allowed 142 goals against (29th in the NHL). The Jets have scored 143 goals (third in the NHL). Math would suggest that loading up on Jets would be a great play tonight. Kyle Connor is a great value play because he plays on the top forward line and power play unit with Blake Wheeler and Patrik Laine. Although pointless in his last three, Connor should fall into at least one point tonight in an amazing matchup.

Defense

Mikhail Sergachev (TB): $4,400 vs. CAR
At just 19 years of age, Mikhail Sergachev is having a great season. With 27 points in 42 games, the rookie is riding the coattails of the offensive juggernaut Lightning team. Quarterbacking the second power-play unit provides the youngster ample opportunity to succeed. The Carolina Hurricanes are a team who have given up a lot of goals against this year. Lack of good goaltending has been the main issue. The Lightning are a huge favorite tonight in what should be a lopsided game.

Goalie

Alex Stalock (MIN): $7,500 vs. CGY
Although not the safest goalie on the board, Alex Stalock is the biggest favorite priced $7,500 or less. At home, the Minnesota Wild have an impressive 14-4-2 record. The Flames are struggling to put together wins and will have a tough go tonight. With the win so important in FanDuel, Stalock is a great play. The defensive core, led by Ryan Sutter, does a great job of suppressing high-quality scoring chances which will make Stalock’s job that much easier.
