FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (2/17)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Saturday (2/17)

We have a relatively light slate tonight with only 14 teams lacing up, but there are still plenty of solid-to-excellent options to choose from. Another factor to consider this week is the impending trade deadline (Feb. 26th), and the resulting effect this may have on some of our available players tonight. Montreal, Detroit, Florida, Vancouver and Chicago, in particular, may have a few guys squeezing their sticks a bit too tightly as they justifiably wonder if their lives will soon be uprooted.

Center

Evgeny Kuznetsov (WAS): $7,000 vs. CHI
Kuznetsov is a quiet star in the NHL and has been for a few seasons. With a 77-point season to his name, and without the benefit of superstar Alex Ovechkin on his line, he is again producing at close to a point a game this year. Chicago is in free fall (2-7-1 in their last 10 games) and may be quietly tanking for the chance to draft a young stud. They are now 18th in defense and are starting Anton Forsberg (3.05 goals against average and 0.907 save percentage).

Nazem Kadri (TOR): $6,400 vs. PIT
Kadri has been one of the hottest players in the league lately (10 points in his last six games) and is working well with young phenom Mitch Marner on his wing. The Penguins are really turning it on as of late but are still 23rd in defense in the league and Toronto’s No. 4 offense should have some success tonight.

Wing

Danton Heinen (BOS): $4,700 vs. VAN
When hunting for bargains, I like to find forwards scoring at a 75% clip or better. Heinen is basically right at that mark and has been quite consistent, especially for a young player in the league. Vancouver is 25th in defense and Heinen has five points in his last six games. Vancouver seems to be sliding lately (3-7 in their last 10 games) and I like Boston’s chances of potting 4+ goals tonight. Heinen is also slated for the Bruins’ number two power-play unit.

Evgenii Dadonov (FLA): $5,200 vs. CGY
Dadonov also fits the criteria for a bargain pretty well (74% clip) and has three goals in his last five games. Calgary may or may not have Mike Smith back from his groin injury, and the Flames have simply not played as well at home (.500 record) as on the road (17-7-5).

Yanni Gourde (TB): $5,600 vs. NJ
Gourde already has 43 points this year and qualifies as another very pleasant surprise for the Lightning, who often uncover these types of late or undrafted gems. Gourde has worked his way up to the second line, playing with solid linemates in Tyler Johnson and Brayden Point. He is averaging a respectable 16:20 in ice time and close to two minutes of power-play time per game for the league’s top offense. New Jersey is slated to start their backup goalie, Keith Kinkaid (0.893 save percentage), so Tampa may pot a few tonight.

David Perron (VGK): $6,500 vs. MON
Perron has gone from journeyman to stud again this season in Vegas, with 53 points in 51 games. The Golden Knights are third in scoring in the NHL and Montreal is currently 25th in defense. Carey Price is suffering through his worst season and the Canadiens are caught up in trade rumors. Perron is averaging 17:42 in ice time and 2:43 in power-play time, and this may be a pad-your-stats night.

Defense

Torey Krug (BOS): $5,500 vs. VAN
Krug is a steady point producer (36 points in 51 games) with 118 shots on net so far. He’s been hot lately (three goals and four assists in his last six games) and averages over 20 minutes a night and an impressive 3:19 on the power play.

Keith Yandle (FLA): $5,400 vs. CGY
I am stacking Yandle with Dadonov against the Flames, as he is relatively cheap, and I feel it’s a good matchup with Calgary’s home record and issues in net. Yandle has scored a solid 33 points this year and has four points in his last five games.

Goalie

Marc-Andre Fleury (VGK): $8,600 vs. MON
The Flower is one of the most popular players in the league and is enjoying a sensational bounce-back season. His stats are impressive (18-8, 2.03 goals against average and a marvelous 0.933 save percentage). Whether he still gets extra juice from playing the Canadiens or not, he has a lot going for him besides his high level of play. Vegas is almost unbeatable at home (21-4-2), while Montreal is 8-18-1 on the road. Throw in the fact that the Habs are 3-6-1 in their last 10 games, and I really like Fleury’s chances tonight.
