FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (2/13)
This Tuesday night brings us 12 games in the NHL. With so many great, high-priced options, selecting the right value plays will be important when constructing lineups. Let’s take a look at some skaters priced under $5,000 tonight, along with a sub-$8,000 goalie.
Brock Nelson (NYI): $4,600 vs. CLS
This seems like an obvious play given the recent success of the third-line center for the New York Islanders. However, FanDuel refuses to increase his price. Before his last game against the Flames, Brock Nelson recorded seven points (four goals and three assists) in a four-game point streak. The Columbus Blue Jackets are not really a team to pick on, but the Islanders score a lot of goals at home. Ranked first overall (101 goals for in 28 games at home), the Isles are essentially matchup proof.
Ryan Spooner (BOS): $4,500 vs. CGY
Although expecting a ceiling game from Ryan Spooner is never certain, he does provide a high floor at a very low cost. Spooner will slot in on the second forward line and quarterback the top powerplay unit. Patrice Bergeron will have his hands full with Sean Monahan and company giving the Boston second line plenty of opportunities. It is a lot harder for West Conference teams to travel East due to the time change. Calgary is in the middle of their East Coast swing and could be a little sluggish against the NHL’s second-best team.
Kevin Labanc (SJ): $4,100 vs. ARI
The top line of the San Jose Sharks might be the best stack of the night. Fortunately, Kevin Labanc will play alongside Logan Couture and Tomas Hertl both during even strength and on the powerplay. At just $4,100, Labanc is the top value option of the night. To add intrigue, the Sharks will be taking on a league-worst Arizona Coyotes team. Arizona played last night and likely traveled late to arrive early this morning in San Jose.
Shea Theodore (VGK): $3,900 vs. CHI
Another player who FanDuel has not risen the price on is the Golden Knights top powerplay defenseman, Shea Theodore. The box score does not bode well for this play, but the opportunity and price certainly do. Averaging around 20 minutes a night, along with time during the man advantage, for one of the top offensive teams in the NHL are reasons to explore the option of playing Theodore. Also, Vegas will host a Blackhawks team who just lost 6-1 to Arizona last night. Chicago is a team who is missing Corey Crawford dearly and until he is healthy, are extremely defenseless.
Michal Neuvirth (PHI): $7,900 vs. NJ
The Flyers are on a four-game winning streak and will host a struggling Devils team tonight. On the road, New Jersey cannot seem to play their style of game. Conversely, the Flyers have played great at home and tend to slow games down, playing more of a shutdown system after getting ahead. Michal Neuvirth, on the season, has pretty good stats and should be in line for the win as a -165 home favorite.
