FanDuel NHL Value Plays: Tuesday (2/20)

There are nine games scheduled tonight in the NHL. With so many high-priced studs to pay up for, finding the right value plays will be important. Let’s take a look at options of players priced under $5,000 on the slate.

Center

Kyle Turris (NSH): $4,800 @ DET
While the Nashville Predators are gearing up for a deep playoff run, the Detroit Red Wings are trending in the opposite direction. Looking to sell as many assets as possible before the deadline, Detroit is a shell of a team from the past dynasty. Kyle Turris will center the second forward line along with the second power-play unit. Even though the Preds played last night, they should have no issue putting up points.

Wing

Ryan Spooner (BOS): $4,300 @ EDM
Even though the Edmonton Oilers pulled off a great road win against the Avalanche on Sunday, they return home finding themselves 17 points out of a playoff spot. The Bruins are playing in the middle of a five-game road trip anxiously waiting to feast on the Oilers. At home, the Oilers own a league-worst penalty kill percentage. On the season, they have allowed 38 short-handed goals against in just 28 games. Yikes. Ryan Spooner will play on the first power-play unit and usually takes on the “set-up” role. He should be in line for a multi-point game tonight.

Zach Hyman (TOR): $4,500 vs. FLA
The Leafs vs. Panthers game is likely the shootout of the evening. Both teams are playing extremely well at the moment and are firing on all offensive cylinders. Although Zach Hyman is not on the power-play, he will play alongside Auston Mathews and the top Leafs forward line. Getting a piece of this game will be vital tonight and Hyman is a great salary-saving option.

Defense

Morgan Rielly (TOR): $4,500 vs. FLA
If you have the salary, teammate Jake Gardiner might be a safer play. However, Morgan Rielly is a great pivot at a discount. On the top defensive pairing and second power-play unit, Rielly is having a great season. Rielly has 34 points in 55 games and is helping the Leafs to a promising postseason. Averaging 22 minutes a night, the young D-man contributes to all fantasy categories. He is a safe play in cash at a bargain price.

Goalie

Alex Lyon (PHI): $7,300 vs. MON
As the third-string goaltender for the Flyers, Alex Lyon will start against the Canadiens. Lyon replaced Michael Neuvirth after an injury last game. He stopped 26 shots in relief while getting the win. At home, the Flyers play a very defensive style of play where they limit high-quality scoring chances and have a much better record. They are 6-0-2 in their last eight games after losing starter Brian Elliott. The matchup is also positive for Lyon. The Canadiens take a lot of shot attempts from low-scoring-chance areas on the ice. This will provide a high floor for the backup with a huge ceiling upside.
